Thank you for the video! I got into wet shaving about 6 months ago because of how expensive cartridge razors are. I started with a cheap $70 kit from viking revolution, and it got the job done, but i would always end up with nicks and occasional gashes as the blades got duller. Recently, I upped my game and got a KCG safety razor, Astra blades, a Simpson t3 brush, Stirling sandalwood soap and Proraso aftershave balm and my shaves feel so smooth with no nicks or gashes anymore. Famous last words, but I think I could run this setup for the rest of my life. I could never grow much facial hair thanks to my Dad's and Grandfather's genes, so I don't need very aggressive razors and the KCG is mild with just the right amount of aggressive I need.

I've been using WilkinsonSword's Straightcut for quite a while now and was thinking about trying out one of these things.
But I think the Gillette seems a little more convincing since the blade doesn't poke out as much as the Wilkinson, and it's got a pretty simple (unlikely to fail) mechanism.
They both look really classy tho

I didn't know Julio but I wish to share your condolences. May he rest in peace.
As far as the razors are concerned, thank you very much for the comparative shave. Both have become widely available in major Smkts here in Italy only in the past 2 months so I was quite curious to see a direct comparison signed off by you.
While comments on the KCG seem to be more or less aligned in describing it as novice-mild with average efficiency, the WS appears to polarize evaluations at extreme ends of the scale. Many describe it as mild, smooth and novice-friendly, while an equal number of shavers point it out as being little more than a "nice" butcher's knife or even hacksaw. Which, again, is the reason that brought me to ask you for the parallel evaluation. In any case, both razors "look" great value-for-money at little expense.
Thanks again for yet another great video. All the best.

These two products just perfectly represent the best example of what difference two razors make themselves, even when the same blade is used. I bought these two safety razors and tried them with the same blade. To keep the objectiveness of the ceteris paribus rule, I loaded both of them with my favorite Feather blades. The difference is blatant, striking and almost incredible: Not only did Wilkinson Classic produce poor, uneven shaving results, it also left about 3/4 of the shaved surface of my face covered with blood. Contrarily, King C. Gillette turned out to be a top quality razor that honestly deserves the attribute "safety": it provided an excellent, pleasurable shave at the "baby bum" level, without a single nick or a drop of blood. It's ironic that the Wilkinson, despite their long time existence, have obviously never learned how safety razors should work, whilst the Gillette people really know what they're doing. Here's my advice: forget about the crappy Wilkinson piece of junk, unless you aim to achieve Mason Verger's visage. Just my opinion, though.

hi Kevy. i agree with you i also prefer the wilkinson sword. it is easier to handle, less slippery, and the weight is so much better balanced. the king c gilette is too heavy, the weight is not well distributed and it is slippery. i shaved with the king c gilette and had pain in my thumb at the end of the shave. Wilkinson wins the battle without hesitation. cheers.

Great video, Kevy! These two get compared a lot. From my experience, the King C is a much smoother razor. The Wilkinson seemed too aggressive for me at first, although it has a reputation of a mild razor. So I decided to use it a few weeks. I found out that it feels much smoother with Derby or Astra blades instead od the Wilkinson Sword blades. For me, the difference was substantial. On the other hand, the Wilkinson Sword blades work perfectly with the King C Gillette. I think those are fairly sharper blades. I guess it all comes down to personal preference, feel and technique.

Hi KS, for a beginner like me I've tried both. Wilkinson is not for me, it nick me and not a close shave. Gillette at £12.99 (UK) has been excellent for me. Also, feather 🪶 blades for me are best. So I would only recommend Gillette and medium sharp blades for beginners. But feather do give me the best shaves

The key is to use a shallower angle (the head doesn't put as much bent on the blade like Merkur-like zamak heads do) and no pressure.

If I had to wager, I would say the King C Gillette would provide the closer shave...at least that is the experience on my face. YMMV. That first pass smoothness difference could be attributed to the blade, as strange as it might seem. I think both of these razor handles can provide a nice mild shave experience and both perform best with the sharper/aggressive blade inserted. lol. Yes, I am a bit surprised at the result, as mine experience was the opposite as yours. Like we keep saying...YMMV. It is nice to see you well shaven. Superb comparison. I just recently started to shave with DE razors. I first bought the King C Gillette, used the King C Gillette blades. Very safe, smooth shave, no blood at all. As I am lazy just did one go. I felt that few stubbles under the chin and near the corners of the mouth. So I bought the Wilkinson as well. Blades King C Gillette (for comparison). I had 2 minor cuts, for me the Wilkinson shaves a little smoother, but a tiny bit more aggressive, needs more attention not to cut. The Gillette seems to be „safer“, works very well for beginners, the razor is very well balanced. The Wilkinson IMHO does a slightly better shave. But all in all both are good razors for beginners, the weight of the Gillette is a plus. Both are a good buy for their price, in the end it comes to personal preference. BTW the King C Gillette blades are quite expensive, I would not buy them in the future.

I love my King C Gillette. I use Featherblades with it and get a great shave.
However I used the grey pack of "Tiger" blades and they would tug my face, although I finished the shave, I've binned the Tiger Blades. If they tug my hairs now, how bad will they be after 2-3 shaves?
    Cheers Kevy

Its kinda funny. I do have both of those razors and I dont like the King C.Gilette either. In direct comparison I do find the Wilkinson better as well.
Both are not my favorites. I went to the Merkur 15C and love it. Better shave, better response, better handling.
    Thx for your Videos Kevy.
    Always worth watching them.
    Cheers Mike
Ps: maybe you wanna make a video on the 15C? Would be very interested on your thoughts. Thx

No, no!! Get that bloody Wilkinson twist away from me!! I can get cut by it just watching it on video!! That razor hates me!!🤣🤣🤣. I quite like the King C though!
I might give the Wilkinson another go as it's been about 7 months since I used it. I don't know why it cut me so badly on the two occasions that I used it. I get on fine with the Outlaw, which is quite a bit more aggressive! 🤔🤔. I hope you and yours are well kevy and keeping safe.
    Dave.

@@georgemakuca8870 what blade did you have in it Peter? I tried one of the Wilkinson classic blades that came with the razor and a treet blade. Both times the razor sliced me up. I have been DE shaving for 35 years so I'm hardly a novice. I also use some quite aggressive razors with no problem. Glad you sorted a good razor now though!

I Start to only use The King C Gillette Razor, for me is eseary to find The angle of cut. I Try The blade Gillette Platinum, damage my Sensitive Skin, on The Neck area , The blade Bic Chrome Platinum, damage all Over my face. Then I use Treet Platinum, on The King C Gillette Razor, very smooth Blade, and more Sharp That The King C Gillette Blade. I only use The Palmolive Sensitive Shaving Cream. Hi Rui. Keep trying different blades. I dont like the Wilkinson sword blades. Theres lots of blades to try. Maybe buy a sampler blade pack that has a few different brands to see if any work well for your skin. Proraso white pre shave is excellent and it might help too. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Kevy 👍

I think the Cella almond might not be so good for very sensitive skin. A lot of people have reactios to almond scented soaps. Its a great cream and its cheap if it does cause you irritation. The Astra SP blades are very good. Kevy 👍
