If you listen to Haymitch, he doesn't vote yes for the symbolic Games. He says "I'm with the Mockingjay". He knows that Katniss would never agree to such an event, especially not "for Prim", so he knew that she must have had some kind of plan and trusted her enough to let her to go with it
After Prim died, you were shocked that Katniss didn’t seem to be grieving and that things were still moving so fast - that’s representative of how Katniss was feeling. There wasn’t time to grieve because the game was still on, the world was still in danger. Katniss was a child who had to pause her own life in order to save everyone else’s.
So true... apart from that is also normal for some people to process death in a diferent way when they didn't go through the full process from losing the person to bury... Katniss woke up and Prim was gone. No one acted truly in a way that allowed her to grieve her sister.
My sister died and I didn't grieve until 12 months later I broke down and been down for 20 years

Not only that, but the first stage of grief is denial. It can take a bit for the reality of loss to set in.

Suzanne Collins, the author of the books, said that the editor (I think) tried to convinced her to not kill Prim because she was a fan favorite and it would've been too cruel, but she refused, she said that the only thing that was set in stone from the beginning was killing Prim. The books are not a happy tale of victory against a horrible evil. Is a dark and sad story about war and it's consequences, and how much it only brings sadness and destruction. Rebellion against injustices has to happen, but the reality is that "there's never a winner" and no one ends up completely innocent.
Best comment ever, everyone hating on Gale are hating on all warriors. War is about power and there are no winners. The pure of heart will never win a war, they will need warriors to die and kill for them.
Katniss didn’t kill those people in the hospital. The Capitol did that it was just a weird shot. No one talked about it because it wasn’t her, she would never do something like that
I always wondered why they chose to make it look that way in the movies.
Doesn’t matter they were going to bomb it. Plus the capital sent the ships first so she’d at least be blamed for an accident which would be justified and no one would hate her, because she did take out capital ships, showing they are vulnerable. in the book it says that people slowly began returning to district 12 and rebuilt it. the meadow where katniss and peeta’s kids play is actually a mass grave for everyone who died in the bombing.
i am a gale hater, but it breaks my heart seeing gale turn so heartless and violent. and him seeing the consequences of his heartlessness because that’s what created the bomb. heartbreaking.
I have similar feelings about Gale. I hate what he became. What he did and contributed to. His rage was understandable but killing innocent people for the cause is still wrong.
I didn't like Gale in the books, the final scene between them in the movie when Katniss said " Good bye Gale" ! Liam display remorse, sham, guilt but in the book he didn't displayed any emotion when Katniss confronted.
I lost so much respect for Gale bc of how he changed. He became so bitter and uncaring.
I understand the helplessness he felt when he saw D. 12 being bombed but to have that hatred even for innocent people in D. 2 and always looking for a way to " erased" the enemy without the consequences, it shows me that he was showing he wasn't better than Snow. Sometimes I said to myself "he was just 18 years old" but at the same time Peeta & Katniss were 17, so it really is the person decision to be the person they want to be.@@terripring5114
Yeah, I remember the one woman from the Hobb (I can remember her name) and her granddaughter took care of Katniss (and Buttercup by extension) while they grieved Prim when they got to district 12 didn’t they?

Katniss never takes her eyes off Coin while sitting at that round table. Just watches her sister’s killer and devises a plan to end Coin. I think she already knew in her heart what Coin would suggest before walking into the room, she didn’t seem surprised at all.
Still the most realistic version of a civilian rebellion in a movie. The "Chosen One" doesn't do everything themselves, they're used as a symbol to motivate the troops. The rebels don't all agree with each other, they all have different ideas about what the world after the rebellion is gonna look like. And sometimes, the leaders of the rebellion don't actually want to overthrow the system, they just want to be the ones on top.
I might be wrong, but I think Katniss knew she was going to kill Coin when she voted yes for the symbolic hunger games. She knew it wouldn’t go through if Coin was dead.
I agree with you. Haimich was also able to see that she had plan, that's why he voted yes. He knew her well enough to know that she was saying yes for a reason. The fact that Coin wanted to do another game was the proof that Katniss needed. Coin showed what she was capable of. (The huge change in Katniss's personality and behaviour, she was finally able to play the true game.)The fact that Katniss put a nigthlock pill in her suit also showed that killing Coin was decision she made earlier and not in the moment. She wanted to end it all after killing her, but Peeta was able to avoid that.
Haymitch never actually votes yes. He trusts Katniss so much that he simply says “I’m with the Mockingjay.” Meaning he didn’t agree to the games, but agreed to whatever Katniss was planning.

Full circle moment: Katniss told Snow in the beginning of Catching Fire she'll convince everyone the love story is real, and Snow says "Convince me." At the end, Katniss is finally able to convince the president. It's just a different president.
You're wrong. In the books, katniss didn't know what to think at the time of the vote, she was still working it out in her head. She decided the moment she was about to shoot snow, she saw his face and decided she believed him.
I remember being so angry reading the book, especially after Prim died. The whole reason Katniss went into the Games was to save Prim, and to have her die anyway seemed so pointless... But I think that overall feeling in the end *is* the point. In war, no one really wins. Innocents die alongside the wicked. There is a cost, and it's always terrible.
The Hunger Games is anti-war commentary, but it's also a warning. It models Ancient Rome before its fall... Bread and Circuses. Distract people from corrupt government by giving them excess and entertainment. Oppress the captured territories and use them to glorify the Capitol and entertain the masses. And then, in the end, watch the whole thing crumble. Even the name Panem is a play on the Latin for Bread.

Be so glad that they cut down the scene from the book, in which the little girl was shot, too, while crying for her dead mother... The movies are definitely tame in comparison

That whole run to the mansion with her and Gale was horrific. The violence and horror happening every step of the way was brutal.
I feel like every single video reacting to mockinjay part 2 needs a comment with this quote from the last chapter of the book Mockingjay because tbh it is one of the most beautiful quotes in the whole trilogy:
"Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake up screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would've happened anyway. That what I need is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.
So after, when he whispers: "You love me. Real or not real?"
I tell him: "Real" "
Unfortunately they don't include the "real or not real" dialogs in the movies. It lessens the payoff in that quote.

man finnick's dead DESTROYED me, he was always so kind and good, he protected Peeta and helped him all the time, he loved Annie with such force. He could've just stayed with her and be happy with his kid but he chose to be brave and help the cause and thanks to him both katniss and peeta had an opportunity.
The fact that she couldn’t mourn because there was still a job to do, and then she finally breaks with the cat there…. Amazing writing and great performance.
In the books her peace with Peeta was written very well, basically saying that Gale was angry and fiery as a person but that Katniss has enough of that fire herself, that she needed someone peaceful like a dandelion in spring (paraphrased) and that’s what Peeta gave her. So in the end they did find that, even though they still face ptsd etc

The worst part is technically Prim should’ve never been out there to help because she would’ve been still too young to go out there. She was out there on purpose, so Coin could kill her.
When I watched these films in theatres with my mom, she said "Then what was the point of all that?" after the film ended, and I think her takeaway is exactly what Collins was going for. There's no 'good' side, and there's no 'victory' without loss. It's bleak and depressing as hell, but this ending is the reason I say that the Hunger Games is primarily an anti-war, narrative commentary. I love that the franchise, both the books and the films, doesn't show that everything works out well after the war. *Everyone* loses something by the end, the rebels aren't total victims or saints, having killed many of the remaining victors and innocent Capitol civilians, and the Capitol is the Capitol. The only thing anyone can do in the aftermath is try to grow past it and find content. It's really disheartening just how true to life a lot of what happens in the series is, not just in history but in modern events as well.
Also I hate Gale so freaking much and I'm so glad there are people who watched this franchise for the first time that feel the same.
the movie didn't go over this, but the symbolic hunger games was never done in the end (assuming that's what she was referring to). if she was referring to Prim, then yeah that's a pretty depressing end.
The power of people.
Everything is built around Katniss, but she never make moves alone. She feels lonely, but she's not alone, she got help from unexpected places, she was moved by unexpected people/places/actions.
Even the "end of the rebellion" wasn't her, was the people. The end of Snow, wasn't her, was the people...
Who chooses the leader in the end? The people. Is about how many people can believe in one person even if this person don't believe in herself, the power of others can change and build her up, and break her down.
Katniss had a second chance because I guess people saw more on her, and allowed her to live, even I the books, they were tired of war, no one showed up after her and put her life or her kids in danger...

In the book, Tigris stylized all of them to the point they are not recognizable, Pettas said to all of them "Never underestimate the power of the brilliant stylist", that was the reason the little girl couldn't properly recognized Katniss . I'm not sure why the didn't in the movie.
I reread the books again and the whole final battle seems so different visually. And I always imagined it was only Katniss's paranoia that made her think the child recognised her, the child was prolly judging the makeup on the girls face.
It's also wild that in the book the little girl just gets shot in the head as she's crying over her mother's corpse. That blew me away when I read it. And they thought the movie was dark by showing her crying.
Presumably, they didn't make them unrecognizable because they wanted the audience to be able to recognize them. You don't hire J-Law and a Hemsworth and then cover their faces... even if it makes the scene make a whole lot less sense.

Yeah same thing happened in Deadly Hallows, in various moments of the story they drank Polyjuice potions and in the movie they did only once.
I said it last time and I'll say it again. Katniss did not shoot down those hovercrafts into the hospital. Rewatch the scene. It was already smoking before they shot their arrows because they'd already dropped bombs on it. The hovercrafts came down to the side of it. And if you're still not convinced, just look at Katniss. She came down, saw the burning wreckage and went into that angry speech for the propo. If she thought for A SECOND that she had any responsibility for those deaths, she would've been devastated and totally useless under all that guilt. They would not have gotten a propo out of her. They would've had to drag her out of there. So please!! Get that thought out of your head lol You're killing me.
I find it upsetting too that pretty well all of the reactors say the same thing.. that she shot the hovercraft into the tower that crashed into the hospital but you can see that they came down from the roof and around the other side to where the hospital is which was on fire from the bombs.

I really wish the movies did a great job handling Katniss and Finnick and Peeta and Haymitch’s trauma and grief. Even Annie and Johanna. Specifically Katniss, because they showed her, a 17 year old girl mind you, shouldering on, and being so strong when in the books she was utterly broken. For half of the book she had a hospital bracelet that read mentally disoriented. She would get lost in her head and after prim died she went mute for weeks. They did such a good job capturing her grief in the books because realistically, these people are traumatized to their core. They had to watch 22-47 children die right in front of them and they will forever have those nightmares
It's a bittersweet ending, same as the books. Katniss never gets over her PTSD, she still has nightmares.
Its so interesting. Jay is the only reactor ive seen remember about the double bombing, and i think its because he's so detail orientated.
It's like Jane said - Katniss did volunteer to protect her sister and in the end it was for nothing.
Well, not for nothing since her bravery ended this sick system but at what cost?? 💔

i personally wasn't disappointed with the novel at all, i thought that the ending seemed natural. love how Jane always calls for her husband when something scary/horrifying happens, as though he can do anything to change the movie. you guys have some of the best reactions, please keep it up.

Katniss's meltdown after Primrose died broke my heart. An absolutely heartbroken heroine shouting at the top of her lungs out of grief was brilliantly written and performed. I've personally been at that level of grief where you just wanna shout at the top of your lungs as you bawl your eyes out. It feels just like what Katniss did.
Also I can kind of understand the existing fan theory that Gale was indirectly responsible for Primrose's death, since he was the one who came up with the idea for the bombs that got dropped.
I have a hard time watching that scene because shes screaming and throwing stuff at the cat... I know shes not actually doing it IRL, they just edited it, regardless I cry every time but cringe at the same time ):
Using Gale's double bomb tactic is meant to demonstrate that Pres. Coin ordered it, not Snow. It is part of what makes Katniss realize Coin is just like Snow and must be killed.
After all these years I still believe that the Hunger Games realistically portrays PTSD and the emotional aspect of finding peace as one of the best. The nightmares, the screams, the feeling of almost being completely numb and knowing you won't receive justice. It perfectly portrays the sheer horror in the eyes of Katniss and Peeta. Its the same look I've seen a hundred times before as a medic in the Gaza Strip and Mosul in 2014 and 2017. That look of pure despair when people lose family members but also the look of pure hope after reuniting with their loved ones, after we pulled them out of the rubble. The grey area where you see good people become bad people after their home is bombed by foreign countries. To either retaliate or find peace. This series bring that aspect forward really well. I met multiple women like Katniss and Prim in my life even men like Peeta and some of them died. I was invited to eat with their families. I've received gifts from their families and even flowers from children. Its hard to find out that you sometimes shared a meal with people that died shortly after. The pain becomes so agonizing that every memory, every image and even smell causes you too break down, to the point it feels almost impossible to eat, drink and even stand up. I like that in the ending of Mockingjay, we see them gardening, sitting in a field and listening to the rain. I do that as well in order to supress my memories. As dystopian as their society might seem, its not far off from the truth. After a while you realize that our politicians (Snow and Coin in their world) use Hollywood, the mass media and even games as a means to justify the chaos they have created over there. That they use it to invade countries, assasinate leaders, steal natural resources and not give back profits to locals, even classify documents of airstrike reports and vilify refugees. In most ficitional movies, there is also an element of truth. That's why I like the Hunger Games. For me its closer to the reality I've witnessed than it is to fiction. They did a great job in portraying those emotions and like you said "the cost of this" sometimes you have to experience an enormous amount of bad moments in order to know what its really like to experience the feeling of peace and safety.

@@Rainbow.Pegacorn.Cosplay It is indeed worth that mindfuck. Although I thank you for your comment, you don't have to thank me "for my service". Service often refers to the military and the military never truly cared for the Palestinians or Iraqis. Although that flicker of hope is great, its not enough when it happens again. I have contacted my friends in Gaza and they lost their children and family members. I held these children in my arms years ago when they were still babies but I knew this would happen. Back then the Israelis continued to provoke Palestinians every single day, murder and detain them whilst also kicking them out of their houses to slowly grab more land for settlers and it never changed since I left. This never started because of Hamas. I've spoken with my colleagues from back then and some of them are going through a tough time so I think I made my decision. I'll find a way either via my former organization or via other means of transportation to reach Gaza and assist solely as a medic. Maybe there are press personel or other medics who shall try to go as well via Egypt. Palestine never asked for the Western terror that the British brought with them. I've seen video's and photos of the families I knew, without limbs and without their body parts under the rubble. There is nothing for me in Europe anymore. I can't stay under a warm blanket when the people that I cared so much about are just dying like ants being stepped on. My true family died in Gaza and I shall also die there even if that means getting caught under the rubble. At least I know I died with my family then, at least I died with honor. If travelling does not work I'll try every other way to help the injured and families of the death, financially. Wish me good luck man I hope to speak soon.

What's crazy is the little girl in the yellow jacket gets shot right after the mom, and yes they actually had real disguises and makeup in the book.
The reason the movie is lower rated is because it doesn't flow as well, which is similar to the novel. But along with that there's also a group of people who are angry and disappointed in the fact that it ends just so horribly. Casual movie-goers didn't get the entertainment they wanted. Which, as I've written somewhere before, is indicative of the same problem in our world as what is showcased with the Hunger Games. People wanted to be entertained but got a heavy anti-war movie. The point of the series is to turn the fascination of "this story is about entering an arena to fight to the death, CoOl!" into "oh shit, I should probably think a bit more about the world than mindless entertainment". Or something like that. That is the point! You are basically supposed to dislike the whole ending. Because IT IS horrible in the real sense(!), and not in terms of the writing or the fiction.

Katniss knew she would kill coin. That’s why when she looked at haymitch he gave her a knowing look, a trusting look. Haymitch never would have agreed, but he knew she had a plan and agreed to vote with her so she could act on it. It’s a beautiful moment of mutual trust in their relationship. It’s also very telling how well Peet’s knows katniss. As soon as she reached into her arm our he knew she was reaching for nightlock.

Theres a ton of "know it all" condescending comments here and I'd hate to pile on but I just wanted to mention that the author absolutely created the series with the intention of showing the reality of war. In short, "we won but at what cost?" and it hits you very hard. Its like a young adult version of Schindlers List lol.
I didn't realize the peacekeepers were taking their helmets off and it made me cry so hard because in the end, were all human with the instinct to help, especially when its children & they're just doing a job.
I'm just happy Justin gave it a chance and you were both willing to connect with & understand the characters. Its awesome to watch people that can empathize to the point of putting themselves in their shoes. Not a lot of reactors immerse themselves like that.

Pollux was mutilated and send to work in sewers but his family has opportunity to pay for his freedom. Unfortunately it took many years for them to collect enough money.
The peacekeepers taking their helmets off after the parachute bombing is a nice touch from the director. It’s the first time through the whole series that we see them without helmets. It reminds us that they’re human.
War is NOT*action" for entertainment.
I get why Katniss had a delayed burst of proper grief for her sister’s death. She never got time to absorb anyone’s death. The drama was still happening and she buried it to get by at the time. It’s more realistic I think for action movies to show grieving this way round, rather than everything to conveniently give the hero time to bawl and cry straight after they lose someone and then are fine for the rest of the time after.
I remember in the epilogue of the book, Katniss says decade later she still had nightmares and Peeta still needed to be reassured of reality sometimes, and they stayed together for years before agreeing to have kids… and haymitch kept geese or something.
I was catching up with my sister when we were reading the books… she was slightly ahead of me and when she hit the bombing kids/prim dying scene, she flew out of the room so fast. I had no idea what had happened then i got there a little bit later. I lost it. I couldn’t read through my tears. I had to take a break. JLaw did such a great job with the cat in the house. It rips me apart every time. Love these reactions. Love the white frilly top. I want that top in royal blue. I trend towards jewel tones. 😀

I'm still impressed that the filmmakers went through with the bombing of the children since especially the first book (and movie) had a lot of teenage readers (viewers).
This series showed war in a quite realistic way compared to a lot of stories that end with a hero/hero couple being victorious and solving all the problems in what feels like one day.
Thing with the 3rd book was just that it was difficult to read because it's so tragic. But that's exactly the point. War is not easy. War is tragic. She depicted it so well
also the fact that in the first movie katniss said she‘d never wanna have kids in a world like this and then later she goes on to have children bc it‘s a peaceful world now
I had read the book beforehand so I knew Finnick's death was coming, but I still wasn't prepared to actually see it. 🙁 Same thing with Prim. Out of ALL the characters I thought at least she was safe.
She didn't kill the people in the hospital, it was just a poorly cut scene.
It plays out almost exactly as it does in the book. It is a horrible tragedy that spurs Katniss to make that inspiring propo that truly sets off the revolution, and to really take action herself.

Imagine Prim's last thoughts as she looked up to see who was calling for her. only to see her older sister, who she was told had died, only to be walking up to her and calling her name. Only for her, herself to be blown to bits. As a older sister I can see Katniss' side quite early, but Prim's side would probably be worse. Seeing her older sister go through so much to protect her, and being " killed" only to walking up to her second before her death.😭

In the book the arenas became tourist destinations after the Games was over. The people of The Capital would tour and vacation at them.
I always thought it was one arena that was built and CGI'd differently for each game, like Pinewood Studios in the UK.
Yeah, there's a passage in the books about it when Katniss is thinking about how she is the only person who will use her prep area underneath the arena

They didn't CGI or digitize Philip Seymour Hoffman. When you see him on screen it is him. He had a week left of filming his scenes when he died, so they rewrote those scenes instead of trying to insert a digital form of Plutarch.
I remember being one of the few people in high school who enjoyed the novel for this one. I was fascinated by how realistic Collins’ portrayal of propaganda and war was. It felt so real and I thought people my age (17yo) at the time underrated it. I was very excited when they brought this to screen. Still, Catching Fire is my favorite of the books and movies. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is just as wonderful a book, so I’m hyped for the movie.
I read the books to two of my kids before watching the movies and my older 2 had also read them. We all loved both the books and the movies. It was great reading a book written in first person about a woman by a woman. That was rare for me even having read so much and she did it so well. I've gone out of my way to look for more stuff written by women since. I had no idea she was forced by her publishers to write it in a certain length, that's just ridiculous and horrible in itself. But it also shows how well she did it that it still came our so well. It's a post apocalyptic dystopian world, there's no happily ever after there and if she'd tried to make it like that it would have completely destroyed it. She showed how all the characters had to move on determined not to forget even knowing how much more tormented their lives would be but knowing that if they let others forget it would all just be repeated again later.
Thanks for going on this journey with us. When one thinks about it, the real Hunger Games is life itself. In order to win, you have to survive by making choices that will affect the outcome. It was heartbreaking to lose Prim as the series was because of that moment when Katniss volunteered to protect her, but only for her to be killed in the end. The revelation of Coin’s intentions was one of the biggest twists of this series, because you’re still wondering if Snow was playing Katniss only to remember that the vow of the being honest to each other was still intact. Coin didn’t plan for Prim to be there, but she did know that the explosion would not only take out the Capitol civilians but possibly some of medics as well. Her thirst for revenge and power became her undoing because she was thwarted by the very person she utilized as a pawn. One of my favorite moments in the series is that every time in each movie the ending shot of Katniss literally captures the emotions she’s feeling in the moment:THG-Hopeful, CF- Horrified Anger, MJP1- Traumatized Fear, MJP2- Happily Relieved. I hope to see your reaction to the prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes when it comes out.

Omfg so many thing I never realized after watching a bunch of times, and this is why I enjoy reactions/commentaries to help me pick up on important details I missed. Katniss knew as soon as she wanted to hold a symbolic hunger games that she was behind the deathly parachutes which gale was also in on smh. And if he weren’t a part of it he wouldn’t have killed prim in the process but holy shit I didn’t realize those were children being brought up to the front and killed by explosions I’m crying. The whole time I thought they were the adults or parents
I remember I felt the second half of the third book was quite confusing, where Katniss and the rest enter the Capitol. It was hard for me to picture the scenery and I also felt that there were so many deaths with several newly introduced characters that I struggled keeping up with.
But in a way I guess it matches the chaos of war pretty well. As I think you said, you sometimes don't really have time to grieve properly because people die so suddenly and you yourself are not even safe so that you can stop to grieve.
War is just terrible and watching your reaction to this movie just made me think of the people in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza and what horrors they must be facing at the moment.
Am I crazy, I don’t remember any talk about having to rush to finish the story in 3 books? It was always Suzanne’s plan AFAIK.
There was some negativity towards the book when it first came out, people complaining that it wasn’t as good as the first two and that they weren’t satisfied with how it ended. But IMHO, this negativity came out of the lack of that feel-good “triumph” JV was talking about, and having trouble accepting Prim and Finnick’s deaths. I came to that conclusion because the negativity died down after people had time to process, or went back and read it a second time.
Most came to appreciate the story Suzanne was ultimately trying to share with a young audience-war is horrifying and tragic, even when it’s for a just cause.

I'm glad that you all included the part with Gale and Peeta talking about Katniss. I always feel like people who don't like Gale leave it out to make him look worse because he was so sensible in that clip. Not at all the way the haters paint him. Peeta and Katniss are more compatible but I've never hated Gale. He's very loyal and I understand him so well. Most people who try to justify their hate by saying it's because of the bombs in the end would do the same in his position if they saw their home and almost everyone they knew and loved destroyed before their eyes. Everyone preaches compassion until they actually feel the hurt, loss and utter injustice of war. That's why I like how honest Jane is when she screams 'leave them, let them die'. She's not putting on false pretence for the internet like so many of you all. She would leave them and that's okay.
Also, JV, you need to step it up my guy. Jane is putting you in the shade with her look this video.

I loved seeing JVs reaction to how this movie subverted his expectations. I absolutely love the novel & have very strong memories of being crumpled in a ball on the couch, absolutely bawling my eyes out reading the final chapters.
Yea they were grieving and going thru serious nightmares and ptsd for years but at least they had each other, and though katniss planned to never have kids Peeta convinced her 15 years later where they’re living happily ever after in the field

I've really enjoyed your reactions to these movies, it's nice to see people get involved and emotional so I feel like I'm not alone hahah. You made good points in all of the movies, but I especially like how you point out the darkness in this one. And like other comments have already said, also that you noticed the double bombing and remembered Gale inventing it.
Jennifer Lawrence's acting is so incredible especially in the scene where Katniss finally breaks down about Prim's death, no matter how many times I've seen this movie that scene still makes me emotional because her acting is just so good. I love this movie because of how dark and realistic it is about how there is no winners and no perfect happiness at the end.
I don't remember a lot of people being upset about the final book or thinking it was bad. I remember people loving this series as a whole. Interesting. The ending is so painfully realistic and unpredictable and doesn't follow the same basic storyline as other books like it. I loved every minute of reading it and every twist and turn. What a fantastic story. The one thing I CANNOT STAND is when people compare this series to others like Maze Runner. That series is a dumpster fire compared to this. The Hunger Games is a top notch series. If you compare it to Maze Runner or Divergent etc., I truly don't trust your taste in novels OR films LOL. I get so heated when people put those other ones in the same category as THG.
@@aricaj.3006 that's fair!! I do admit my frustration isn't entirely justifiable mostly because I didn't read TMR books or Divergent books. So those I'm just going off of movies. But they seemed to have a lot of plot holes and ineffective world building and just seemed to be a mess plot wise compared to THG. but maybe the books were better and it's a problem with the adaptations. I'm not sure I could handle the Divergent movies again, they were just so so bad. But maybe I should revisit TMR movies and try to enjoy them for what they are. But ya, my main point is about the movies not books, and as far as movies go I just felt like TMR and especially Divergent series were both severely lacking in plot strength and effective world building compared to THG. I feel like Dylan is in Trouble did a breakdown of the three that I really agreed with if you've ever heard of him or like his videos, he explains a lot of my complaints. But I'll definitely revisit TMR and try to just enjoy it for what it is and not compare.
I feel like people (including me) forget that Katniss is still a teenager throughout everything. So her saying she doesn't want people looking to her and she doesn't want to be the mocking jay is so understandable. Imagine being a teen just wanting to save your sister, having to fight to the death, then have a nation of people looking to you to lead them.
I also have to point this out cause I saw it on tiktok and can't stop thinking about it. Finnicks very first line was "Katniss" when he greeted her with a sugar cube, his last line was also "Katniss" before she put him out of his misery.
Also as much as I dislike Gale it was so heartbreaking seeing him go from wanting to protect the Everdeen family and just kind of make sure everyone around him is safe to being ok with civilian casualties and becoming heartless. I keep thinking about how the second bomb explosion was a brainstorm from Gale and that's what killed Prim. The girl who sobbed and said she wouldn't be able to live with herself if her cat didn't make it. The girl he also swore to Katniss to protect and what really started the uprising. This might be random but I love Haymitch's line about how once the bombs went off that's when things ended, cause even the peace keepers had kids in there. That is like the one humanizing factor we get for the peacekeepers. The capitol and their people supported the hunger games which threatened lives of other children but as sad as it is once they lost their children I think things finally clicked in their 1 accumulative brain cell. We don't really see it but I'm sure the hurt finally made them feel what the districts have felt for 75 years.
The peacekeepers were not all capital citizens, some came from the districts, particularly district 2. I think it could also be used as a punishment for a crime because it was at least a 20 year commitment. Some of the original peacekeepers in district 12 were among those that defended Gale during his whipping in the second movie, that's why they were replaced.
Yeah, mutts can be anything, the dogs from the first movie were mutts, but the districts call anything mutated/engineered by the Capitol a mutt, so the tracker jackers, the genitically engineered wasps, are mutts too, so were the jabberjays that mated with the mockingbirds, and these white things too. In the book they smell like Snow's roses to make Katniss fear them even more. Snow wears those white roses all the time, so Katniss would associate that smell with him, and he kept leaving those roses in places for Katniss to find. In district 12 there was that vase with a new flower added every so often, and after the bombing of district 13 there was that mass of white roses. Psychological warfare.
I think a lot of people miss that the point of the novels is how much of war is actually propaganda and machinations.

Also, I don't think anyone has noted this, but Finnick fights with a trident (fishing district), not an axe. The axe is Johanna's weapon (lumber district). Weapons make sense with the district people are from

Sorry you left out Tigress. When Katniss & Gale we undercover walking in the hoards of people, making their way to Snow’s place, Gale got captured by the Peace Keepers. Before that, they had made an agreement that if one gets captured, the other will shoot the other so they would not have to be captive of the capital. Gale was yelling shoot me, shoot me! Katniss couldn’t do it.
In the book she actually didn’t understand what he was saying at the moment, she only realized he asked her to shoot him afterwards
