  • Well, we're almost two months into ownership of our 2017 Porsche Macan S and are decently impressed overall. However, there was a glaring issue underneath that both the selling dealership and I missed when we looked it over.

    That is so weird that you mentioned the part about having to put your foot down on the gas to get a quick response. I have a 2015 Macan S and it takes off like a rocket for us. The acceleration is the quickest one we test drove - and we test drove a lot! The only one that came even close was the Jaguar F-Pace.

    My wife has the same S model too..Watch out for transfer case issues, it makes the Macan S hesitates during acceleration or from the roll …Her Macan got fixed at 70 thousands mile under warranty ( mechanical warranty expires 100k)…It was estimated at $5k to get had fixed…I think you’re having similar problems if you had to step on the gas to get it to go a little…..it’s not supposed to do that…The Macan is faster now it almost scared me sometime with all that weights…

      The maintenance costs at the dealer is ridiculous. $1284 for oil change and transmission fluid change. $750 for spark plugs.
      Plugs every 30k miles
      Oil 10k
      Transmission 40k
      I'm gonna have to do all my own maintenance lol

    So my 2015 Macan S had the same leak and broken bolt issue. Cost was $3200.00 thru warranty. I'm considering a newer Macan Turbo. You get alot of car for the cost. Porsche is considerably descent. Wish they could sponsor me, a normal guy to test their cars in California.

    Why doesn’t Porsche just put in stronger, steel bolts at the build? After reading up on this problem, it is pretty common & widespread.

  • @Darren51283
    @Darren51283 Před 6 měsíci

    I had the oil leak issue on mine, which I bought new. They removed the engine from below and replaced all of the crappy aluminum bolts with steel bolts. It was in the shop for about a week and costed about $4,000 but it would have been twice that amount if not for significant help from Porsche (the 4 year warranty had expired, and I live in Canada). Crappy aluminum bolts were replaced on the timing chain cover, the valve covers, and the pan covering the bottom of the engine.

    Thanks for the video! Glad to hear no major issues at more than 100,000 km.
    As people noted below broken bolts are a common issue on Macan S/GTS.
    What I also disliked during our test drive of Macan S are terrible squeaking brakes (in cold climate, we live in Canada), and terrible rear view camera. After all this we went with Mercedes GLC43.

  • @ritchwellsuayan711
    @ritchwellsuayan711 Před 3 lety +8

    Timing cover leak is a known issue for the macan, surprise of what you paid for the repair because it should be several thousand dollars for that repair because they remove the engine to repair. Luckily i was cpo and the dealership had the car for 4 days and they gave me a loaner.

    • @ttmezger
      @ttmezger Před 3 lety

      The same just happened to my 2017 S, which is under CPO warranty still. They had previously tried to just replace the broken bolts twice (once in 2019 and once in 2020). This time it was clear that it needs to be resealed, which is in fact an engine out service...hopefully the bolts fixed yours but I suspect it’s the same issue.

      Same happened to my 2016 Macan turbo after 20K, really disappointed even if dealer eventually took care of costs once I complained, out of warranty by a couple of months. Cost $3500 I was told.
      It worries me driving it much in case it happens again. Disappointing for a 100K luxury Porsche brand. Not a fan any more!

    Broken bolts of timing cover Macan S 2016 is a recurring problem, very expensive, unless like me I got goodwill coulance from manufacturer in Germany. Since that I take the Porsche warranty program every 2 years for 2500 euros including assistance. PORSCHE repairs are extremely expensive . April 2021

    Porsche doesn't stand behind the quality of their vehicles. The transfer case on 2015 Macan S has failed twice now in only 27,000 miles. This is a known issue which caused Porsche to extend their warranty to 7 ys. Their "improved" transfer case lasted only 2 years 2 months and 9,000 miles. I am out of warranty by 6 weeks and Porsche turns their back on problem and sticks me for $3,200 repair. Don't buy a Porsche w/o extended warranty for entire length of time you expect to own it. #1 rated warranty company - Endurance - won't even sell coverage on Macan. That should tell Porsche and all potential buyers something. Customer experience is far from an expected premium car brand experience.

    Hey guys. Thanks for the video. Just purchased a 2017 Macan S from a reputable dealer here in ATL. I have purchased from them before and was treated good on an Infiniti Q50. Would you recommend that I still get a pre-purchase or post-purchase inspection done by a different shop to make sure there are no problems? I have been recommended a Porsche mechanic by my neighbor who drives a Cayenne Turbo and have been thinking that when I pick up the Macan to get it inspected even though the dealer has stated they did a full inspection. Would love to hear your advice.

      @@maxim4458 there are 2 options, drop the engine or remove the front end to get to the timing cover. If only 2 or 3 broken bolts near the top of cover then replacing them might not need require an engine removal. I believes once the leak has soaked up the compressor and the under panel, this might imply the leak has started a long time ago and more broken bolts are popping. At this stage, dropping the engine, removing the cover, and redoing it with new seal and bolts!

    I would LOVE to drive a Macan. Why? Just because. If it is the base, only with the so-called launch control because the four is not that quick. I have been thinking about it for quite a while. I read up on it. Watched a lot of videos like this one as well. I have come to the conclusion that it is wayyyyy overpriced. Double the maintenance cost of a Lexus or Acura (or Audi for that matter, which I have owed). This business with the timing belt (chain?) where oil leaks, same with the transfer case. I forgot exactly but there are two spots where leaks can occur or DO occur. They use aluminum bolts (for a reason I guess but still) that break. They break! That will cause a catastrophe. I MIGHT consider a CPO; basically where I can get 5+ years and unlimited miles on a warranty and for sure sell it before I am on my own.
