WTF Happened to BEN AFFLECK?

  • In our latest WTF series, we take a look at some of our favorite stars and filmmakers who have seemingly disappeared or altered their careers over the years to the point that begs the question; WTF happened? Now, before you think we're just picking on celebrities or running some gossip rag stuff, think again! We take a fun (and sometimes funny), researched and fair approach, looking at all angles that led our subject to wherever they are now (which isn't necessarily a bad place at all). If anything, it answers the question on where these fine folks went, how they got there and where you can find 'em now.
    In this episode we look at the career of Ben Affleck, who rose to fame in the early days of Kevin Smith with indie hits like CHASING AMY and MALLRATS, as well as a memorable turn in Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED. However, it was his co-scripting and acting in GOOD WILL HUNTING that really put him on the map and opened up doors for all types of leading man roles, including Michael Bay's ARMAGEDDON and PEARL HARBOR, John Frankenheimer's REINDEER GAMES, the Tom Clancy adaptation THE SUM OF ALL FEARS and the lead in Marvel's DAREDEVIL. However, he hit a snag at GIGLI with then spouse Jennifer Lopez and did a number of smaller films before emerging as a director with THE TOWN. From there, Affleck was on fire again, following up with another directorial gig, ARGO, which took home the gold. He continued this hot streak with David Fincher's GONE GIRL before becoming a superhero again, this time for Zack Snyder's BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and JUSTICE LEAGUE. From there his next directorial effort, LIVE BY NIGHT, fizzled and Affleck's personal life suffered as well, battling divorce and alcoholism. The actor sought help and worked hard to get sober, next appearing in THE WAY BACK, which tackles those very demons. Affleck has a number of projects lined up from here and is looking healthy and strong yet again, ready to deliver more good work on top of his already massively impressive resume. Also, he was the BOMB in PHANTOMS, yo!
    We love ya, Ben!

    Batman v Superman is not Ben Affleck's fault, it's Warner Bros. fault.

      Ben was a pretty great Batman overall... in some really bad movies. BvS is beautifully filmed though, so many shots in that which just needs a basic instagram filter to essentially be directly from a graphic novel. Even if he never directs again then Snyder should be a legendary cinematographer.

      Old School Uncensored you misunderstand That scene. He didn’t stop cause Clark said his mother’s name. He stopped because in that moment he realized Superman is human. That’s his realization Superman has relationships and people he cares about. Also he can’t go on after he utters Martha in his most vulnerable state. That would make Batman a cold blooded murderer. Which he is not.

    Ben's journey and triumph is testament to how some of us need to carve our own paths. There may not be one laid for you when you are out there searching for your own place in the world. And you may find yourself in a slump for years due to taking the easier route of landing gigs that someone else puts together for you. Until you are willing and able to take the reins and put yourself into the difficult role of a leader, you may never find your perfect fit.

    • @marine6271
      @marine6271 Před 3 lety

      @R M that's not an excuse, Daredevil came out in 2003. Which means that Marvel already released Spider-Man, Blade, X-Men... This movie was not good, and it probably seems worse now that it's almost 20 years old, but when you watch X-Men or Spider-Man, those movies are visually old but the scenario and the acting are still good because it already was at the time. That is not the case with Daredevil.

    • @uneazypolarb7691
      @uneazypolarb7691 Před 4 lety

      You can watch videos on why it was so bad (you can only type so much with 1 hand).
      1) CGI
      When it comes to CGI, Aquaman is definitely far superior.... JL had very noticeable green screens. I almost forgot the horrible mustache removal. There was this one scene where he talks to Lois and smiles.... That was terrifying.
      2) Writing
      The writing was hot garbage imo. I liked Batfleck and wanted to see more of him, but in the 2 movies that he was in, he wasn't written like he deserved. If you have watched the DCAU shows, or the animated movies, or have read the comics, then you would for sure understand how bad the writing was. Just look at how batman was written in JL. He was literally there, just to get shit thrown into his face. He said things that batman wouldn't say, like the one where he argues with wonder woman. Also, if batman wants to do something, he would do it, he wouldn't ask others. Batman is the mortal on the team of immortals that even they respect him and follow him. Also, batman is a lil bit sassy, but he doesn't make jokes, especially in the middle of a fight. Moving on to Flash. This flash was supposed to be Barry Allen, but he behaves more like Wally West. He was severely underpowered. Like seriously, he kept tripping over and over again.
      The character introductions were rushed. Every character was underpowered.
      I don't remember much from the movie, like it was soo damn forgettable.
