Very interesting and impressive. Did you have to modify the soaps or detergents that you use in your household or will that all be filtered/broken down by the bacteria. It clearly seems to be working and I'm sure you did thorough research on the chemistry and soil impact of it. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your question and interest. We are basing our experimental reed bed filtering system on "Twaalf Ambachten" (a dutch site) but as you may know all situations have different criteria so it is trial and error. We find that by not using harsh cleaning products and minimising on regular ones the plants are more than able to deal with it. We tested the filtered water and it comes out impressively clean. Some people say it can even be used for drinking after an extra inverse osmosis filtering but we limit the use to the fruit trees. I think we will need more time until we can establish soil impact as so many factors are at play.

    Great video.
I am currently rebuilding my house, where I already have seperated grey-water and black-water.
What setup would you suggest? I plan to work on cleaning my waste water next fall. Now everything goes to city-drainage temporarily.
I will be so happy once I get this finalized, as everything except cold-water in the kitchen comes from rain-water.
After I can drain my waste water I will simply borrow my water from the garden and return it clean after I have used it.
    Such a peace-giving thought.

Hi there, Great that you have grey and black separated, that makes cleaning so much easier. Unfortunately we don’t have that set up so can’t speak from experience. You’re right such a peace giving thought to keep the water clean on the land.

Put in another pipe to your toilet tank, and a tank for holding your grey water. Pump the grey water into the toilet tank line. This way when flushing your toilet the water has already been used twice and that is before purification treatment. This preempts the clean water from being used.

I’m building this project in my house right now. Does the plant filter smell?

Hi there, if you build the plant filter according to the guidelines there is no smell. It is advised to add stones/volcano gravel every couple of years to keep the desired level of coverage. Hope that helps.
