Link doesn‘t work 😢
Got a wordpress error. Maybe too many people at once overloaded it?
Hey @TheSmokingTire I hate to say it but I think this is against CZcams TOS. Only want to point it out so your channel doesn't get in trouble. They don't allow giveaways that require a purchase.
@thesmokingtire would have loved to enter the contest but your not accepting Canadian contestants love the pick of car tho
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Giveaways, specifically sweepstakes, in the U.S can not require a purchase. They get around this by having a "mail in" option in the rules.
Love the choice in giveaway car, those little things have a ton of potential! Let us know if we can help turn up the power.
Someone gon blow it up and we know it
Class!
Do it! Cheers 🎉❤
2008 was the first year of the BMW 135i. We mistook the badge around the key ring to mean it was the launch edition.
My 09 also has the ring. It just means that it was produced in 08 which was the first production year.
@@tickandslug My 09 has the ring but was made in 09. It just means that it was either made in the first 365 days of production or that it was a pre-ordered car. I can't figure out which. (Edit: I'm an idiot and my car is an 08 prod date)
@@thriftshopper23oh, I didn't realize that. What was your build date?
@@tickandslug Actually I take that back. My car is a 10-23-08 car so that makes sense. Idk why I was convinced it was an 09 production.
These cars are great. Must have mods imo are as follows: LSD, coilovers, M3 arms, rear subframe bushings, thicker rear sway bar, pads and fluid and obviously wheels and tyres. A square setup totally transforms the way the car turns in and is a must imo. 255 square is optimal but you will need to get pretty aggressive with setup to make it fit - 245 square may be better for your purposes. Excited to see the finished product!
Great choice. Have had an N55 135 for 9 years now. It is very much a classic BMW coupe which is all but gone these days. In stock form, I've found the stock suspension not up to par with the powerful engine.. Coilovers, more front camber, LSD and stiffer rear subframe bushings totally transform the car and are ALL the mods it needs. Anything else is a bonus.
Same here, just for 7 years 😂 and love it!! Got me hooked with BMWs.
Owning now one two years!!! Only thing to do is LSD
I just bought one 2 weeks ago, my car has 190 000kms on the clock 🥵
What LSD r u running?
IMO the classic BMW coupe formula is certainly not gone given the M2 exists.
M2 owner here, prior 135i owner. Highly recommend installing the 1M fenders paired with coils for better track width up front due to the e82 having very bad understeering in hard cornering, the 135 is also open diff stock and rear 1m flares are also available
I had a 2010 335i with the N54 and absolutely loved it!
The BMW performance tune is a great 50 state solution that just wakes up the throttle response and adds just a hair more power.
Love this idea for a mini series. Maybe more than 3 vids? Some progress stuff? Maybe shakedowns dialing in suspension. Please do this a few times a year (hopefully views and entries make it profitable for you guys)
My first BMW was a 2010 135i I bought brand new. Even bone stock, it was a riot. Did many track days with it with nothing more than a square 17" wheel and tire setup and brake pads and fluid. Also did a road trip from NY to FL (drove home in one shot) and it didn't miss a beat.
Ep2. Mods and Repairs: czcams.com/video/BO2mmtDWeXQ/video.html
Badass, will be following this build. I just got a 2010 135i and loving it!
As for the small vibration when braking, be sure to have the tension rods (aka front lower rear control arms) looked at.
Looks good, interior especially. Can't wait to see the HREs you choose.
I like the concept, and I hope you promote the hell out of it during the giveaway period!
So glad the 135i still gets the recognition it deserves most ppl can’t get past the looks. But I love it in some angles looks like a spaceship 🚀
I’ve had a 76 and 74 2002, I’d love to try a “modern” version of my classic. I’ll be entering for sure 👍
Looking forward to see what you guys do with it. Perfect platform to build on!
I still have an 08 E82 since new. The size and shape always appealed to me as it was definitely unique in the bmw lineup.
I owned a 2009 135i 6 speed, monaco blue, saddle brown interior. I LOVED that car. Had to trade it in because a kid was on the way, bought a house and the RWD and sport setup wasn't good for getting to the train in the snow here in New York. But man I miss that car.
Excited to see the progress on this car, good luck to all of those that enter the giveaway!
Still have my 2010 135i you guys reviewed. Love the thing
It’s great for road trips
I drove mine home from CA to NY after I got out of the marines
This is my only car. 2009 135i w/ 160k miles and it's the best car I've ever owned. It responds very well to mods and a proper suspension setup + LSD transforms the driving experience. Pumped to see what you'll do with this one.
Had a 2011 which I got brand new. I’m glad to see these cars make a comeback and maybe climb in value a little. There is a lot of preventative maintenance that needs to be done as they age though
Powerflex bushes on everything. Not just the subframe, but do the diff mounts, engine mounts, front swingarms - everything. A relatively cheap way to make it feel awesome
I’ve had an 09 135 for 2 years now. It’s a seriously fun car. On clubsports with the m3 control arms and ps4’s the car is absolutely insane. I would highly recommend an intake, oil cooler, inter cooler, tune and exhaust. It transforms the car into one of the most exiting drivers cars in a unsuspecting package.
I'm on the lookout for an E36 M3 but this seems like a mighty tempting second step to that. BMW at their level best.
Should be a fun thing to follow, novel idea!
I have been daily driving an almost identical 128i with the n52 for the last 4 years. Great cars.
Now this is a car i would love to have! They look awesome and have plenty of power with alot of potential and manual, love it😍
I had an ‘09 135i with a stage 2 Dinan tune. Absolutely loved it.
Agree that necessary preventative maintenance is to look at the turbo and the actuators, they fail frequently and it’s the thing people that know the platform look to address
Love the idea of a giveaway car and the car you guys choose was excellent for it. Can wait to see what's gonna happen to it and the modifications. Great move. It's bummer that i don't live in the states to enter the program
Been considering buying one of these - interested to hear about the mods you choose! 👍
Best 135i mod is the rear subframe bushings. If at all possible, would highly recommend replacing them with the E9* M3 ones. They still feel compliant but tighten up the rear a ton
Great Car, love mine, this model has quite an analogue feel to it, heavy ish steering etc, quite different feel than the newer M235i etc, the stock handling is definitely better on the M235i but these E82's have a lot of potential.
Exhaust, suspension, LSD, restore headlights, rear subframe bushings, carbon clean the intake runners, better brake pads and new rotors, Michelin PS4S, E9X clutch lock valve. Check all oil gaskets. Do not tune the motor. You're good to go.
Seems like the perfect everyday-counter to my E36 Z3. Might have to enter this one!
Matt and Zach, looking forward to coming to Cali to pick up my new BMW and driving it cross country back to PA. It’s going to be epic!
Have had a couple 128i and love the chassis. Hope this thing gets a pair of ohlins, probably my favorite change you can make to one
Thanks fpr daring this project
Good inspiration for simple mods
Being on the wrong side of the pond , hope the winner will enjoy this
Just ordered my mug yesterday, it would be pretty cool if it came with a 135i.
Very excited to watch content from this!
I own a 435 and have to say I’m 6’3 and can fully stretch my legs. Super comfy for longer rides and also very impressive mileage for a 6 banger! Beautiful review, my buddy has a manual 135 n54 and it rips!
Looks like a delightful little BMW
The 1 series is a relatively hidden gem in the bmw world, specifically the 128. Mine weighed in at 3125# (no driver, half a tank) and with some mods, it does very well as a dual purpose street/track car. It still has a hydraulic rack, has plenty of feel, some of the best shift feel from BMW, and has a ton of character due to that short wheelbase (shorter than an E36). 135 gets all the attention due to the b00st b0i culture but it’s still a hoot.
Boost boi culture i get what youre saying but people just like the turbo torque
i own a 2011 135i with dct as a daily and it’s fast fun and perfect for the city, mine has full m3 control arms and m-performance suspension with some good tires and i couldn’t be happier
Makes me wanna buy one of these little things. Really nice little bimmer indeed. Can’t wait for the end result!
Will definitely enter for this. I miss my 2011 135i all the time. Jet black / coral red 6 speed with all the bolt ons and M3 arms and coils. Was a fantastic daily and had plenty of get up for just about any situation.
I have to disagree on the leg room comment though Matt, I’m also 6’3 and that was my biggest complaint with the chassis lol. Seat all the way back.
I'm surprised you guys didnt go for the 11-13 N55 DCT cars. Surprisingly I can sit in the back seat comfortably with decent room & I'm 6'. These cars need an LSD bad & you will need to find a way to mitigate the front roll. Great daily drivers. No serious issues with my 2012 for the past 7 years.
I had a 2011 135i manual m sport. Quite similar to this except n55 and silver over red. Absolutely awesome car. The back seats are surprisingly big for how small the car is and are actually semi usable vs something like a 911. Sold mine during Covid for significantly more than I paid. And even at todays values I think they are still bargains. I would see if you can find a PPK exhaust for this car, it should be carb legal and will give some more sound.
I was looking at convertibles and they are shockingly affordable even with lower mileage.
@@theredmonkey Yep no one wants the verts. I went with an e92 instead because i couldn't find a single e82 135i, just straight e88s (convertibles)
@@SicSemperBeats Actually the N55 verts cost more than the E92 N55’s. But that’s not the case for the N54’s.
I've had the 135i for a few years now. The price is still right which is amazing, plus it's not gonna be clapped like pretty much every 335i out there now. It's a great little car. I moved up to an e92 m3 but the 135i is still an awesome bang for the buck when all the other cars have been going up in price
E92 M3s are getting clapped these days as well. Pretty cheap in my area
Great choice!! I also think E92s, specifically 335i, 335is and ///M3 would be perfect for canyon runs, and for the asking price range of $30K, the ND RF Miata should be a no brainer.
I have always wanted to try a 135i! I love the shape and the simplicity (funny with BMW)
Very exciting! Same year, model and wheels as my 135i which I’ve done some light modifications too. Curious to see where you take this one!
Great choice! I love my N54 E82 135i
I don’t know what you have planned for suspension but be aware the 1 series can be fiddly for tire clearance up front with aftermarket stuff. I put Ohlins R&T on my 128i and the 1 series specific kit will actually reduce the space for the front tire unless you swap the included springs for a shorter set. Iirc it comes with 180mm spring and 150mm springs let you raise the spring perch enough to fix the issue. Swift springs are good.
Also, please put in a limited slip diff. Wavetrac is recommended.
Obviously my opinion is biased but I love your choice of a platform to base this build on. I’m 6’5” and can juuust get away with wearing a helmet for autoX. It was the smallest RWD car I fit in, that’s why I bought it.
My 135i looks identical to this one. I never planned on owning one of these but I saw one for sale and bought it the next day. This is a proper coupe and better than a 335i coupe IMO
Honestly it’s such a charming car stock. I tried to buy a couple of these actually, but ended up with an E60 and later my E46 M but man, if I still would love one of these!
Love the choice in giveaway car
I'm an independent mechanic and tuner who's bread and butter has been the n54 platform for the better part of 2 years... they are parallel twins, same size. 3 cylinders to each. TD03-10T, similar in size to a civic/crv 1.5t turbo.
Nice watch, can't tell if it's a sea dweller two tone or a sub two tone, but either way it's a beautiful piece, as always Farah hitting it out of the park with his good taste in watches. Ps. I love that era of bmw, the 135 is the sweet spot for power/size/price.
Really excited to see how you guys clean up this car!!
Had one of these but N55 DCT. Great car, sold it last year for a decent chunk of profit.
I absolutely loved my 128i and regret offloading it. I’m considering picking another one up for my kids when they begin driving in a couple years.
Sounds lovely with the fly-bys!! 😍😍
Damn stock 135i black on black looks so clean. Chose a great place to start.
Matt reviewed an E92 V8 swapped 135i on Drive back like 7 years now. Bonkers car, made me fall for engine swaps like that and the smoking tire 👍🏼 ppl need to start watching their subscriptions goddamn
FINALLY matt is doing another One Take
the way it should be!
Always thought these were good looking and understated. Might have to pick up a mug mug and maybe I'll get lucky and end up with this one.
Great choice on wheels and tires. 👍
Always liked the 1 series. Good looking car.
I think the one series and 1st 2 series are some of the best looking bmws ever. Shame what’s happened to the current 2.
One of the best cars you can give away. The n54 is a b*tch to keep running for long (thanks piezoelectric injectors, buy a set of 6 index 12's before giving this away to someone) but a buttery treat when its running well. The chassis feels great and the engine on stock "low" boost makes the throttle feel like a huge whoopy cushion, step on it and be thrusted forward
Cool car and im all in on the give away. Love the concept of building a car to your spec and giving it away.
Exciting stuff!
I had an 09 135i that i purchased new. I put wheels, coilovers and a JB3 tune and the car was very nice. May I suggest a limited slip diff to your mods? It would be a great mod.
Realistically should replace the turbos. The turbos are close to their end.
single turbo conversion
one of my dream cars, had an e92 m3. but i want one of these so bad dct, with an lsd. but ls3+lsa blower. carbon roof. etc.
Silver paint HRE's would liven up the stock all black BMW look !
Get the m3 arms on front and rear it makes handle so much better.
(for seo purposes)
Wow, this totally answers the question of what is the best canyon car under $30,000? This BMW 135i giveaway can get you the best budget autocross car, best budget canyon car, and best fun daily driver under $30,000. This is a great car for all of those purposes. And it is nice to see it is getting an Optima battery, Motul fluids, HRE wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and coilovers too. Very nice!
Hey Matt really enjoy your videos! For someone looking to get into canyon driving in the LA region, is there a video or other resource that shows all the best routes such as the ones you take?? Thank you!
I just had my 135i totaled out this spring and everything they talked about made me miss it only more. Maybe I'll get a second chance.
Great idea for a giveaway but I'm not a fan of coffee mugs, wish it was something like a shirt but I get why you choose a mug. Thanks for the great content.
N54 is a great engine with a bunch of crap bolted onto it. Do the water pump and get rid of the plastic intercooler charge pipes, it will be more reliable. Also check the turbos for wastegate rattle and shaft wear, otherwise you will get low boost codes at random all the time, especially when the car gets hot
As a 335 been looking for 1 to own but the prices for a clean 135 has sky rocketed.
🎉As late as 2012 You could still special order a bmw 128i (from Germany no less and complete with photographic updates as it went through production in Bavaria )without a sun roof, the a/c, or even a radio- I naturally took them up on it (as a lease nonetheless!!!) omitting every possible option and even some of the included accessories where ever possible. It was essentially a a body in white (128i club sport. the only option box ticked was the M Sport package which gave you summer tires, better suspension and a nicer steering wheel I think. I immediately installed an LSD and lowered the final gear ratio to something just this side of dumb. It let 6th not feel like an overdrive at slow American highway speeds and kept the car feeling manic and quick as it was always spinning pretty quick in the near of its flat six power band.
The car ruled because it drove like a modern 2002ti. It was also the last of the real naturally aspirated bimmer flat sixes- the power plant design that BMW just about perfected and defined it as the ultimate driving machine from the post e30 world until bmw decided to make its cheap cars shitty with turbo fours and it’s nice cars ungodly advanced heavy and expensive with powerful turbo engines instead.
When I returned it at the end of the lease, no one said anything about the weird gear ratio, or the M3 motor and tranny mounts- they just wouldn’t sell it to me cheap enough for me to afford at the time and the stupid replacement was bigger heavier more boring 4cyl turbo car- that seemed of far worse build quality, (BMW’s leatherette aka vinyl has always sucked- but the latest 2series and 3series base models are just so much lower quality than the previous generation was.
Bmw doesn’t really make a real bmw anymore- a light good handling front engined rear wheel drive coupe with naturally aspirated flat six.
I guess the 230i is about as close to a real bmw as one can get now without going into m4 land for very different style of vehicle versus the old e86 128is, Bangle era 3 series or really any bimmer coupe going back to the 2000ti’s and e30s, e36s, e46s M Coupe bread trucks, etc….
You had me at " were doin the 100k mile tune up".
A good high-mileage example. 👌
Belive it or not this is pretty much my dream car, after doing drag racing and building a motor in my civic to currently driving a e90 bmw 323i (Canadien model) and road testing a 128i this would be the car I plan to save up for later in life
Owned two of these. Both N55, one DCT, one 6spd. Would love to try a N54 manual without buying a 135i for the third time 😂
correction, there was no x5, x4, x2, x1, x7, nor 6 series with an n54. Only suv with a n54 was the x6. N54 was never used in every car bmw made, you're thinking about the n55 (wider used but still not every car, no n55 z4)
This is the ultimate driving machine. It's the successor to the supra as it were the ultimate kit car. The 128i I'd the last naturally aspirated inline 6 BMW will ever make.
They are awesome in both forms and I will get one and make it my own.
I’m definitely gonna enter in this one! I had an 09 135i and I loved it.
To much money for me and I don't want the mug. Idk if the math makes more sense with a 50$ fee to enter since more people would enter at a lower price but this would be a nice way of providing income while giving something back once it's worked out
@@user-hr2zy7ct8h Not that I was going to enter anyway, but I think the "every X dollar spent" combined with "normal" merch makes more sense to me. At least then, you can get yourself a t-shirt or something that you would get anyway with the money, not just a raffle ticket in mug shape..
@@Finnspin_unicycles Yeah that sounds reasonable
I have had my lightly fettled E82 125i (UK) for over 3 years now. I couldn't find a better car for the money that I could drive everyday for work and take out for fun. Fuel is expensive here and the running costs of the 135i tipped the scales for the naturally aspirated car. It's arguably the better engine for small UK roads.
I am excited to see this build and giveaway.
The rootbeer is awesome
Silly question. Are you guys replacing the crank rod bearings? Thanks.
Indeed
135i gang best bmw made 👌👌
new rubber, poly, or solid bushings everywhere!
It’s a love hate relationship when people show how good underrated car is
