- When doing data analysis, investing time with people and the process of analyzing data, as well as it's resources, will allow you to better understand the information. It will significantly benefit the data analysis process as well as the results from that analysis. Exploring your mindset and getting to place of neutrality and purpose while working can help clear the mind to do a more thorough and complete study. Look at the big picture and the small; understand the bias and the purpose. Data analytics is as much an art as it is a science. Anyone with any background can be curious and investigate information to tell a complete story. Data analyst for a large university by day, an instructional designer for a sales training company by afternoon, and a mom/wife/sister/aunt/friend by night. A recent graduate of the online Master of Learning Technology program, she is in the process of changing careers and incorporating her perspective from each of her backgrounds. As a student, she has presented at multiple conferences, both academic and workshop format. And this past year, with a team of her peers, published her first article. Just completed week 5 of the Google Data Analytics course and seeing everyone in the comments encourage each other on this journey is so heartwarming! It is so encouraging to scroll through the comments and see many people who were directed here from the Google Analytics Course. I feel so motivated to continue this journey, knowing that I am not alone. Data analysis has purpose, as the talk said and I hope to put data analysis to good use as I learn now and get to practise later.

Hey there! I just finished Week 5 too, and to be honest, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at times. Sometimes, I even question whether I made the right choice to switch careers. But reading all of your encouraging comments really inspires me to keep pushing forward! I'm going to save this and let you all know when I land my first job as an analyst. Yes, career change can be scary. People can be scary. Company cultures can be intimidating. I'm pivoting my career a bit so most of these concepts aren't new to me but they were only a few years ago. Stick with it and learn to be ok with NOT knowing everything all at once. You'll get it, but only if don't fail by giving up. Stick with it!!
so natural to feel this way, but know you are not alone when having doubts. Keep pushing through and know we have your back and are here to support you on your journey. Keep up the great work. :)

UPDATE: I got my first Tech job and resumed as a Product Analyst/Manager on 8/08/22 at a top Fintech.

@Huy Phạm Quốc going very well... I've used the skills I learnt from the course to get my first Job in tech! I resumed as a Product Analyst/Manager earlier this week.
Tbh, I'm yet to complete my course but yeah, the skills have been super helpful.
@Huy Phạm Quốc I used a bit of creativity and looked at a few online templates to do mine.
This is really inspiring! thank you.
Three main take outs from the talk, in my opinion;
1. Data analyst need to have good people skills and should always be listener.
=> when she talks about how she transitioned from talker to listener in her career and how it impacted her work
2. The path is long and winding with ups and down so you need to be consistent
=> her journey from math major to analyst to a parent to a student she was consistent in pursuance of her passion
3. The power of storytelling is critical to understand patterns and gain insights from it
=>how data analyst is as much as arts as it is a science

Almost finished first course in three days. All of this is getting very very interesting. Can't wait to see what future opportunities would it bring for me. Still 7 courses to go, and i am so excited.

I have not been very consistent, but i keep coming back and tried to do little more. I went all in for first 4 courses, but slowly lost consistency. But, i didn't quit, and i would not quit.
At this moment, i have finished 6 courses, 2 more to go. I will come back soon after completing the last one.

i feel like i just finished my first semester and everyone is outside of the class talking about the last class. Thank you for the speech Anna. I am currently a postgraduate student doing research in the civil engineering field while also taking the google analysis program. The last part you talked about in regards to being the bridge between to different world inspired me.

One thing we can all agree on is that no matter the industry your are in, story telling is a very important skill to have.
I agree with you, The ability to tell share insights through storytelling is what makes a data analyst.

Hello! It's been 2 months - how is it going? I'm just finishing week 5 and wondering what's ahead)
@@tsetse4327 Yaaay! You are doing great. So far so good. It gets more interesting as you progress. You'll get introduced to SQL (which is really cool) and visualisation with Tableau. That one makes everything seem so colourful. There is so much to learn that sometimes you will want to take a break to take it all in. I am currently at the part where we are taught a programming language - R. I had travelled for some time so lost about 3 weeks of study. Hopefully I should be done by the second week in June, with the Capstone projeect.
All in all, it's all worth it, and just hang in there. :)

All I can say is WOW! I currently work in higher education and am taking the google analytics course. This TedTalk hit home for me in so many ways, and there truly is a need for more data analysis to inform better decision-making in institutions in ample ways. Hoping I can be part of the solution after I complete this course!
Glad to see so any aspiring data analyst its really motivating to see them all going in the same direction. I started this course on 18 may 2023 and today is 1 June .I completed first course in 13 days I would like to request all my fellow students to update their comments once they got a job so the others can get help from them.

Having been a data analyst I find this very relatable. You start out thinking it's all about the numbers, but you really start having fun and adding value when you realize the impact of the data on people.

I'm here from the Google Data Analytics course as most of the people here. Hello everyone! I truly understood what Anna refers with that rift between the educational practice and the academic research. I got into this course precisely because I am a social scientist and, besides some freelance projectd, most of my professional experience comes out from the academia. I also think data analysis could be a bridge to overcome that rift she is talking about. It is a way that we as social scientist can adapt to the contemporary world in the so called era of dataism. As we saw in the last part of the course, dealing with fairness issues, social science provides great insights to set data into context. The theoretical and the applied can merge through data science in such an interesting ways...

I have always wanted studying maths right from my higher institution but my Dad then didnt agree but here i am now into Data Analytics course in My Course 1 week 5

It's my second time of watching this video, first was when I was trying to watch any Data Analysis material that appeals to me, 2nd is week 5.
It makes more sense to me today compared to the first day.

Well, here reading in the comments that some people finished Course 1 in a week or even days almost makes me feel embarrassed lol. I am going very slow, it took me 3 weeks to finish Course 1 lol. Still, I feel excited, I am totally changing my career path, from being a cook/waiter to becoming a data analyst. I have faith that this will go well for me and will change my life forever. I just finished my Educational Leadership MA degree and I want to be an educational equity data analyst and work at colleges. I am getting my Google Certificate right now with everyone else here! I was so thrilled when she said she worked in higher education because institutional research is such a niche within this industry!
