The heads in the audience. All grey.
I wish more younger people saw the deep emotionality in such art.
Pop music can be good (a lot of it is only to naive ears, but some just is great)
But this... this is so more honest and primal, I feel.
    Sorry for ranting.

With less hair the sound reverberates in the hall a little better...

I talked to a lot of seniors in concert hall intermissions as a 21 year old. One of the first questions I would get is, "What instrument do you play?"'' I can't even read music - people just assumed that's the only reason a young person would be there, and usually they were right!

    Absolutely magnificent.

This is very special and not just because the playing is perfect and balanced. Vasks' ethereal music can sometimes seem at a distance from how the beautiful sounds are made but here we see the wood, steel, gut and human beings all of a single purpose.
Typical of Marwood, there is no posing here and faux suffering for art. Supremely committed musicians do not need stunts.
I agree with MA in the comments that this should be a repertoire piece. Okay it is difficult and demanding but that is the bar young musicians are increasingly aspiring too.
    Thank you for posting.

Yes it's a great performance of a truly remarkable piece of music. Personally I prefer Daniel Rowland's more intense rendering, but I can easily listen to this.

You are very good and Vasks is really brilliant. My choir sang "Pater Noster" during one of our last performances. Write this in the search: you will love it for sure!

This concerto should be standard repertoir it's not that far off the sibelius

I hear a lot more Shostakovich, especially in the central movements. But I agree.

Peteris Vasks caresses the strings. Arvo Part torments them.

Have you heard "Musica dolorosa" or any of his other works that have tons of pitch bends and similarly uncomfortable string writing? Vasks is a great composer, but this is hardly true.
