  • Comparing the Bricasti M7 Saint Gerold Hall preset in LiquidSonics Seventh Heaven Professional, Slate Digital VerbSuite Classics and Waves IR-1. This is a Bricasti M7 v2 Algorithm preset. The decay times are the default preset settings and although SHP and VSC show a different decay time LiquidSonics say that the actual decay times are the same acoustically. The Waves IR-1 is using a third party Bricasti M7 impulse response library which is available free at Samplicity.com. samplicity.com...
The sax is from the 2010 track Joy Toy by Rolanoid. On the release mix the sax has the Lexicon PCM Chamber on it. Listen to it here: rolanoid.bandc... or on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and most music sites.

Subscriber Appeal. Plugin Decisions was started in 2017 but because I have less than 1000 subscribers I have never earned a cent from any of the ads that CZcams runs on my videos. Please help me get to 1000 subscribers this year by supporting the channel and subscribing. Thank you

Happened to come across this. Ranked observation:
    1) Waves - This provided the most separation from the source because of it's grainy, rolled-off sound in the high end and didn't have much low mid build up at all! (Gives me hip-hop, neo-soul, 90's/2000's and EDM vibes. My ear follows the depth of the tail - reminds me of what I like about Valhalla Room). Preferred on vocal and musical sources.
    2) Seventh Heaven - This one really wrapped around the source material and has a very glossy tone, but this is only useful to me on material that I want to sound "shiny". Otherwise, I'd be EQ'ing this more to get it into a supportive role rather than the duet sound it tends to make on long sources. EXTREMELY effective for modern drums for a bright space with no harshness.
    3) Verbsuite - Has too much low mid build up that I'd want to EQ afterwards. Would add more work to a modern workflow.

Honestly, they all sounded really good. I honestly liked the Slate the most for the sax. Seventh Heaven for the snare. Nothing against the Waves, it's a great verb too.

You have great videos, I find it soo annoying when people talk way too much in comparison videos, especially when they use compressors or volume level changes to make their voice pop out when they talk, and I find it so hard to actually listen to differences in audio in such videos. But this is great, just the important bit, no level change, no pointless talking. I wouldn't have minded some commentary but it isn't required of course.
Now if I could hear a difference between these I'd be a happy beginner producer ;-)

Thank you I am very happy to hear that as I too feel the same way. I make the videos the way I would prefer to watch them myself. Little or no talking, level matching, short and to the point. I loop one short segment of audio which can be repetitive to listen to but I find it harder to judge if a song is playing right the way through and they are AB'ing at different points in the song. I also prefer to let the viewer decide what they prefer rather than state my preference unless asked.

Crazy to see that IR1 sounds dat good even if it is a bit warmer-darker sounding compare to the slate especially. Great test dude.

I didn't hear any difference (but i listened on a laptop) The slate has the same algorithm as Liquidsonics Reverberate2 I think, as it was made by Liquidsonics. So unless they improved the algorithm for 7th H, it should sound the same. The Waves tail though, seems to stop sooner.

  • @papasight7365
    @papasight7365 Před rokem +1

hahaha. this is an older video but you do know that the Slate M7 emulations are EXACTLY the same as Seventh Heaven because they are straight from Liquidsonics. Funny how people swear they can hear a difference. From Liquidsonics on a post on Gearslutz:
"The M7 (currently) has two algorithm modes, referred to as v1 and v2. The Fusion-IRs for Reverberate 2 and VerbSuite Classics provide a complete set of the v1 and v2 algorithm presets from an M7. So when we talk v1/v2, that's what we mean.
The new Fusion-IRs in Seventh Heaven / Seventh Heaven Professional are re-recorded versions of the M7's v1 and v2 presets done in a new way to facilitate the new features of the new plugins. Nothing other than Seventh Heaven / Seventh Heaven Professional has access to these. So Seventh Heaven Professional does not have access to any additional presets that you can't get in VerbSuite Classics, it has access to different capabilities that require different supporting files."

Thanks for watching and commenting. I mostly prefer to let viewers reach their own conclusion so I don't sway them and yours is exactly the point of this video - how indistinguishable they are from each other. One solution is free if they already own Waves IR-1.

If a person already has Waves IR-1 or picks it up for $29 in a sale then download the free Bricasti IRs mentioned in the description for a very affordable Bricasti M7 reverb sound. I do much prefer the GUI on Seventh Heaven or VSC but sound-wise they are all so close.

seventh heaven sounded far away but lush and bright, while slate sounded dense and placed in the perfect position while sounding bright as the seventh heaven, the waves sounded good but it muddied the sound and made it darker also the reverb tail didn't translate well.

The Slate is a bit more harsh. Software is not bad for the price compared to the hardware. But you can see why studios would use the M7. Nothing harsh about it. Nice. I like the 7th Heaven second in this demo. I own the Slate. Sounds nice. But comparisons like this are something you don't see Slate doing either.
