This 35 min video reminded me of every cold morning start when I had an Orion with the exact same 1.6D. Funny enough - when that engine locked up - I swapped it for a 1.8TD. Thanks for the memories, loved that car
Yeah, them engines were that bad to start when I had one in a escort van for work, the 1.8d in my 98 escort van was just as shit a starter, and that was brand new!
@@michaelbamber4887 It's all down to the glow plugs and good compression on the old Duratec engines. Either of them aren't right and it's out with the Bradex to start them up.
@@jamiewood4280 no its well before duratec. They were LT engines. Like the one in this video. Totally shite starting from day one. Mid 80s to early 90s I'm on about.

I love the fact that someone has converted it to the 1.6 Diesel! When i saw the engine bay i already thought "something´s wrong" and then read your description. ;) We had the 1.6 on the previous generation Escort (1987) and it was indestructable, also the sound is stuck in my head since then. Love the singy noisy, much nicer then the slightly grumpy sound of the 1.8. PS: can´t wait to see the detailing video once your winter is over.
Great Job. It was very hard to get it working but you did it once again you proved that you know what you are doing. 👍 My dad had the same escort but it was sedan and 1.6 petrol I am sure. I remember the very first smell when I get inside the car. We lived in Bulgaria and it was winter like - 20° and the escort aways started from the first time. It was petrol but I like the diesel. He used to drift in the snow with the escort. Great memories thank you for reminding me this feeling and I can smell the smoke from here 😂👍👍🍺

Fun starting worn out old diesels in the winter! Surprised that one had any floor left in it after sitting in the mud like that. Amazing the wheels turned when dragging it off the trailer!
Appreciate the English subtitles (especially the jack with bad pump seal- 5 hours later... I know that feeling!) That looks really super solid for a Mk5 body, the scuttle, wing bottoms and even around the filler cap I didn't notice any gaping holes. Must have been well loved, and well worth saving too.
I dont know how floor is bad, but pretty solid body i must say, rockers are easy to fix, and single stage paint easy to buff out. pretty solid car, it has potential
The unique Ford diesel sound, love it. Better to connect the accu negative to the engine block near the starter, less resistance and the starter will spin faster. Great video anyway. keep those cold starts coming.
I love Ford, I drive a Ford Focus Diesel, that is 20 years old this year! I love him, it is standing outside all the time and always runs great and always starts, even in the cold.
I remember that in a nearby house here in my neighborhood in Buenos Aires Argentina there was one of these. I asked and they told me that it was a German Ford Escort (I don't know if this one is also German), according to its owner it wasn't working because something was broken in its engine. I remember that it remained abandoned in the garden of the house for a long time, apparently nobody wanted to buy it because it is known here that spare parts for imported vehicles are very expensive and difficult to obtain. On the other hand, the newest model of this series that was manufactured here in South America in Brazil had an overwhelming success!
Good evening Flexiny, Thank you for this new video of restarting this Ford Escort, incredible that after such a long stopping time in rather difficult conditions this model can restart.

Nice Escort. Quite high-spec CL trim level. It has the same seat upholstery as the 1992 Sierra 1.8 LX I used to have. Looks nice with its Series 1 Orion Ghia wheel trims too. It would be great to see this disaster-detailed and then returned to the road. It certainly looks straight enough.
In Germany the CL was the base model of the MK5 Escort, but i know that the trim levels depend on the country you live in. On the Mk4 it startet with the "C", the CL was just slightly better equipped (full wheel covers, softer headrests, rear wiper, rear foglight).

Great video flexiny, great work to get that engine going in that cold weather, you used the old hot air trick into the inlet 👍, lovely sound of that Ford diesel 👍😀👌
I have received an offer to buy a diesel Ford Escort Van, just a little younger than the car in your video. Just needs a new fuel pump, from what I can see. Very reasonable price. I am tempted to buy for myself and make her run, just like you. And now that I've seen this video I really am having a hard time passing that offer. But I already have multiple cars xD
Those engines are really hard to do destroy. I had started Fiesta 1.6D after hydro locking by driving thru water at 60kph. All I done is removed air filter, put it in forth gear and pushed it backwards till most of water got out. After that I cranked and it started right up running smooth.
My Escort have original lamps yet, I only need to change foward beam lamps and foward position light (firsts fail every 7 years and second fail for wet inside headinglights)
Another car lives to drive another day! All it needs is a good power washing/detail and a set of new tires. It's weird seeing a car with a diesel engine instead of gasoline because here in the US It's pretty rare to have a diesel powered car. Diesels usually power trains, semi's and medium/heavy duty trucks here.
