    A couple of recommendations for you to consider; Pat's quick hitch is the cat's meow and I highly recommend. Take the chain off the pto shaft cover and let it rotate freely - less maintenance on the cover and it still protects you.

    Nice…I just picked up a used one. The gearbox has a vented fill plug so if you leave it in the rain or rinse it off, water will get into the gearbox and the lube will get milky.

  • @ezinatx
    @ezinatx Před 2 lety

    In my area a rotary mower is commonly called a shredder because that is what this machine does to grass and brush. In tall weeds the leading edge of the mower pushes the stalks onto the ground and the mower will not cut efficiently. You look back sometimes and see stalks popping back up where you just mowed. In those areas, you might raise the deck and drive slower, then circle back with a lower deck for a finish cut (my experience). Nice video and I'm looking forward to part 2.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 lety

      Actually the Y blades are for grass and brush. Duck foot blades or scoops are for grass and work amazingly well. I have a set of both. No doubt hammers are for brush only, but my drum isn't necessarily beefy enough for major brush cutting.

    I have a 6' brush hog that a mow a lot of grass/ fields with. The secret is good sharp blades. For cutting weeds and brush dull blades work best.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 lety

      Be careful, sharp blades aren't usually the best for thick brush, rocks or any potential hazards. I've always preferred a slightly rounded over blade as they don't chip like a sharp edge. No doubt a sharper edge is beat for grass.

  • @cervus-venator
    @cervus-venator Před 2 lety

    Thanks for the slip clutch info. I have one on two of my three rough cut mowers and neither has slipped in years. I rely on the shear pins and I use grade 2 just to ensure I do not tear up the tractor in any way. I bought my original mower off the side of the road and that guy got it at an auction. While I only paid about $300 for it I had to put another 300 to 400 in it with welding on new skid rails, putting on a new tail wheel hub, new blades and bolts and a new PTO drive shaft and slip clutch. The original PTO drive shaft when I bought it was twisted at least 90 degrees. It works great now and has for many years. I love it for roads, trails, medium sized food plots and I use it on the dove field too. However, I've never had an opportunity try a flail or finish mower and look forward to seeing your future videos comparing all types. Thanks.

    Back when I worked in the orchard I use to mow with a Bush Hog 109 inch mower and that thing would mow some grass, granted we had to use the 4 cylinder 2030 tractor with 60 hp to run it because with 2 gear boxes and 4 rotating blades along with 2 boggy wheels it took some horse power to run... I rebuilt the top deck with 1/4 inch T1 steel and it made it a tad bit heavier but man it was strong...

    • @mjh123crh
      @mjh123crh Před 2 lety

      I also did some mowing with a Flail after the pruners were done because it made it less labor intensive to chop it up rather than pick it up and haul it out of the orchard. One thing I would suggest would be to hard face both the rotatory blades as well as the flail hammers because it makes them last way longer. Just remember to put an edge back on the rotary blades so they cut instead of rip the stuff...

      @TKCL  Před 2 lety +1

      Awww man, you guessed my upcoming video. I don't know of anyone that hard faces mower blades. I've always been curious about experimenting with that. I've already got the rods. Video coming soon!

    Hard to see in the Video Andrew, But is the Front lower than the back ? There should be about a 1 to 2" difference between front to Back. when traveling forward you want the front to cut 1st. then the cut grass is chopped at the rear.
    If most of you cutting is backing up then the other way around is best.
    Thanks. Mike M.

    Hello Andrew a few questions.
    1. How is trying to get the hydraulic hook up for the grapple come along.
    2. Could you show use the trees that got hit by lightning you were talking about.
    3. Have you seen or heard about the tractor attachment I think it’s call (lane shark) to help keep your field edges cleaned up. Daniel Arms used it to help him.

    • @TKCL

    I've worked on a farm, and later worked on a golf course. This doesn't look like a golf course or a pasture. What are you growing on that acreage that requires cutting it down?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 lety

      If you don't keep that grass cut you establish weeds. I spent months of time and thousands clearing this property and planting the pine trees and all field grass. My plan is to fence that area and put animals in it. Until then I am keeping weeds, brush and trees away by mowing it. That also overseeds the pasture.

    I have the 60” version of that cutter. It’s the only regret I have about my Tractor package purchase from John Deere. That mower is as flimsy as any cheap cutter on the market. When I bought mine about two years ago it was $1850 included in the package and I could have got a Woods that was twice as heavy duty for about $350 more…

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 lety

      You should have bought the woods, a much better unit. That's why I mentioned at the end of the video I know about the weakness of it. I plant to weld some reinforcements in. The price I paid was worth the little bit of metal and work.
