I love the maintenance videos - they show you appreciate your equipment!💜💜💜
I sure do and I want it to last.
I was right. Andrew once again you did a terrific job of passing on great information to your subscribers. You do a great job of maintaining your equipment in near new condition.
Take care of it and it'll take care of you.
Don't forget to pull your PTO shaft apart on the brush hog and grease it, very important!!!
Ruger the inspector is on the job. That was funny him inspecting your blade then looked at you tell you that you did a great job after you finished sharpening.
He checks out everything 👀
I love Ruger's wrapped attention. My lab will lay her head down on my desk or project like that too. It usually pays off for her by getting petted.
He's all about his attention, until he gets hot. Then it's off to a shady spot to snooze.
Thank you for this very informative video. I have a 2060 Frontier with the floating bar and will definitely pay attention tomorrow as to it’s position. I too, remove the blades to sharpen them while it takes a few minutes extra, I find I get a much better edge instead of crawling under the deck. Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
Andrew, Another great video, I love the way Ruger supervises your projects.
He makes sure I don't miss a thing.
Rotary mower inspector Ruger approved of your maintenance. I love how Ruger wants to be apart of everything you do.
He's always checking behind me.
Great video
Thank you for watching
Hey look, I finally made it first. Yet another extremely informative video.
4th my friend 😬
My dad has an old brush
hog that doesn't have any flex in the hitch. On way get around this issue is unhook the top link. I probably need to make a flex hitch for it.
I've seen those bend badly hitting holes, hills or going over really uneven ground.
Lots of great info on brushbeater maintenance and adjustments. Now I know what that pto height adjustment knob does. Been looking to buy the 40 series tractor and thought I better watch this video too. Glad I did!
Great video! Thanks for this. I have the same tractor and brush cutter. Now I have more information to service the slip clutch. You just saved me $$ to have the slip clutch serviced at my dealership. 👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing. Love the channel. 🤠
Your experience will help many! And you have so many useful toys ( yes, Mr Gray, I know it is pronounced tools:))))
TOOLS!
A trick I learned from the mechanic that delivered my rotary cutter, is to use an allen wrench to set the slip clutch spacing. If you need 4mm, just grab that size allen wrench and use that as your feeler gauge.
Your exactly right, I remember hearing about that years ago.
Try some Loktite Silver Grade Anti-Seize. Also, if you do not have an air or battery 3/4 or even a 1/2 inch impact wrench, then get one.. If you get 3/4 inch it will work with you current set of sockets. Love your videos.
I have all 1/2 air and electric impacts. Thanks for watching.
I figured you did, as you seemed to be very competent and knowledgeable. I was just feeling sorry for you having to use wrenches to remove those blade bolts.😀 I've never seen bush mowers that permitted blade removals from the top. That would have made my lif a lot easier, and I would have sharpened the blades a lot more often.@@TKCL
I suppose the blades should be balanced so they equal each other.
The slide in the center of the power shaft may need maintenance. It needs to be able to slip.
Ha! Same toplink here. I can't stand adjusting it. I've been looking at sharpening our blades.
Such a dumb design, yet another engineer that's never operated a tractor. 🤦
Yes
Nope 🧀🪤
Slacking Chris, Cash got you.
@@TKCL it was the cheese 🧀🪤 always works 👍🏽
No service at camp
Nice! Enjoy your time there.
boy ruger was listen while you was talking and making sure the blade was sharpen correct. now all you have to get him to drive the tractor that would be kool. SAVANNAH TN.
Hes working on it
Good thing your tractor is air conditioned when you are mowing with it. Heat index reached 124.5° here today around 1:30 pm today. 🥵🥵 Be careful in your shop as well as hot it is right now.
I've been working on a deck in full sun the last two days. It's beyond miserable and dangerous. I'm taking tomorrow off for another job that has air conditioning 😉
@@TKCL yes this heat is very dangerous. You be careful out there and take a break often. You deserve a project in the A/C .🥶
Tekton was one of the manufacturers of Craftsman when they were a Sears brand. One thing I would add is to clean the deck on these mowers. Here in Florida moisture finds everything, including the dirt and debris on top of the deck. Once it gets moist it stays moist, which starts rotting the metal. Running heavy duties, we've sent rocks and logs through the deck into the tractor a few times on many different decks, and had to patch everyone we've ever owned.
Agree with you on the cleaning.
Andrew,I saw that you had your supervisor checking out your work 🐶❤😮
Always!
Good video, it’s a good reminder about keeping up maintenance. Don’t listen to what they’re saying about other brands of impacts, stick with Dewalt and get the newer 20 volt max, I have it and works great, very impressed.
Oh I'm definitely sticking with dewalt, I already have all the batteries and those tools have treated me very well for decades. No point in switching brands what I've been using hasn't let me down once.
Good day all.
Good day
Hi Andrew, enjoyed your video, 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Thank you for watching sir
Hi, Andrew! You are very meticulous in the care and maintenance of your equipment. Ruger is a good supervisor.
He's a great dog.
Andrew you need to get yourself a 1/2 cordless impact for time like this. They break nuts off like nothing something 🤷🏽♂️
I've got a 800ftlb torque ait operated one. I've been eyeballing a nice cordless Dewalt 👀
@@TKCL I have nothing but rigid cordless tools. And my half inch impact will take off 1500 foot pounds of torque and will tighten up to I believe 800 foot pounds of torque. Works awesome
Somethin else super important for maintenance on equipment is painting. Any welds, surfaces, or cavities where moisture can settle, basically anything that isn't a wear surface needs to be touched up if you see the paint getting thin or rusty spots forming. especially after you make semi-permanent adjustments like how you adjusted the hight of that trailing wheel arm, id give it a shot of paint where it used to sit since now thats most likely just bare metal.
Very true, these rotary mowers are notorious for rusting out.
You have a very attentive assistant.
Sure do
For checking oil with no dipstick, I use a cut off of string trimmer line.
Not a bad idea
oh my nothing worse then smokeing a slip clutch! i was running grain cart for a friends neighbor and that was horrible! i opened the shoot befor i hit the pto and oh boy was it mad! took a few cycles to get it cleared out and running!
clutch was mad not the neighbor!
Lol I've ner burnt one that bad.
@@TKCL oh i didnt burn it to the point it went south to smithereens but it was to the point it worked better then it did!
You skipped the blade reinstallation. Since the bolt drops out of the bottom, some might not know the easiest way to reinstall the blades and put the nut back on the top.
Very true, I should have recorded that portion. Especially since the bolts have a "keyway" protrusion.
You change enough of those blades and you'll be investing a nice impact wrench very soon. ;) I've had some of those bolts so seized that literally hanging off the large cheater pipe and hitting it with a torch wouldn't break them loose. But a 3/4" cordless impact wrench made short work out of them.
I've been eyeballing a good cordless impact.
@@TKCL It's not cheap, but the Milwaukee Fuel 3/4" cordless is a beast. My diesel mech turned me on to one.
Question: I have the RC2060 and was wondering if it's safe (or smart) to use the cutter with the curved rear plate removed (as you have it at the end of your excellent video)
This seems like it would allow cut grass to more cleanly exit the blade box.
This would be an advantage when I'm collecting the cuttings to make compost in large quantities.
Thanks
It's there for safety reasons, but we removed the chain guards because they were affecting how the material is distributed.
Makes me want to go sharpen my rotary mower blades now. Did you have the chains on the rear of yours?
Yes originally, I think dad removed them because it was dragging thick grass bunches.
@@TKCL ah makes sense. I’m glad I left mine on. I tend to find things that like to get thrown around and the chains seem to keep things from flying off
That are great for that.
How's the deck coming along Andrew?
It's been miserable hot and slow working as a result. I had something else come up that has me traveling and delaying the deck build as well. I must say I'm enjoying being in the AC more than outside right now with these crazy temperatures.
But how do you actually get the blades turning?!?! 😭😭😭
He sure did lol
👀
👀👀👀
Am I first this time?
Nope. Not today. Sorry
@@5150cash when I clicked on the video it said there were no comments! Also there were no views yet! How did you manage to sneak in before me??? Hmmmmm
Your actually 3rd today 😬
@@sharonurschel6753 I think Cash is on some sort of speed dial or something! I've seen where it shows no views or comments too and I don't get in there either so don't feel alone!
@@sharonurschel6753 magic 🪄✨
why not just use a zero turn?
Florida, 100 degrees, summertime, bugs, 15 acres to mow. I'm using the AC cab tractor when I can. I do use my zero turn every week in certain areas.
UNO
Got it!
The biggest fight with these damn implements is trying to pull the collar back while pushing the driveshaft forward over the spine! What a stupid design, there’s got to be an easier way. In reality it’s a two-man job unless you’re strong as a bear.
There's some technique to it. They do make aftermarket pto quick hookups to make the job very easy.
@@TKCL yes I’ve looked into those might be an option on the 2072. It wasn’t an option for the way my Rhino 8 foot bush hog is designed. It has a double shaft.
