So it must be a generational thing. The French we grew up watching on tv wore berets. And now that we think it is cool and want to wear them, the French eventually stopped wearing them so they won't be mistaken for tourists, i guess. 😅

My Singaporean friend got mistaken as French in a suburban area supermarket, near Disneyland Paris. Because they don't expect tourists to go grocery shopping there and just assume all customers are French, even (or especially) non whites.
The biggest compliment you can get from a French person is them speaking French to you without obvious contempt showing on their faces. The French are really nice if they think you understand French. Their face changing expression when they have to change language is on other level. Italians are the complete opposite, you speak a few words in Italian and don't order cappuccino after 11 or pasta Bolognese and they're impressed. Less so in touristy areas, but still.
Why should what the french think matter? They didnt think the african nations they colonized for their benefit mattered so I say they deserve to be stereotyped as they are built on a foundation of evil and self righteousness. Want me to care? They better show compassion

Berrets are just very unusual in the 21st century, even for tourists. Real Parisians stopped massively wearing them in the last century. I live in the Netherlands, and I travel to Paris very often, never wearing berrets or French scarves. Btw, maybe they have different attitudes towards Dutch citizens or people of mixed origin (I'm a Dutch citizen of mixed origin), but in 90% of the situations, when I just speak English directly, they respond in French😳😳😳 (even though, I don't understand French)

What I mean is why don't Americans (anyone really but I see it amongst Americans a lot) once you do know where you want to go, why not do the tiniest of research? For one knowing a few social norms (not all but enough to feel safe) help avoid you get scammed and charged more. Why do Americans go to a country when they know nothing about it? Why do you even want to visit? Im soeaking as an American who loves learning about culture. Why would i want to go visit a country i have no infinity to? Its the beret that gave her away😂
1. Saying Americans know nothing about France is really untrue. It’s France. People know about France. You’re acting like it’s some super small country no one’s ever heard of.
2. People all over the world like to travel to places they don’t know very well. A large part of the fun of traveling is learning about different peoples and cultures. I think a lot of people would find it quite boring to only go to places they have an *affinity* to.
3. American slander is really tired. Especially over a silly video. Give it a rest.
@@cuthip @cuthip I get where you are coming from. I'm also not saying know every nick and crany about a place. What I mean is why don't Americans (anyone really but I see it amongst Americans a lot) once you do know where you want to go, why not do the tiniest of research? Save some for learning at museums and other fun experiences but it's good to know a bit about a place before you go. For one knowing a few social norms (not all but enough to feel safe) help avoid you get scammed and charged more. It also helps avoid issues if you know a few laws so you don't get arrested in a foreign country or even specific states in America. What I meant too could be attributed to the fact I don't like doing things without a purpose so it's not supposed to be extreme negativity to Americans but rather confusion. Why would anyone want to go anywhere unprepared or unaware of something?? Now not saying they need a spiritual calling and fantasy dream desire to visit a place but if you are going somewhere across the world, why assume it's so similar to America or interested even a bit in the place you are going to. Say I book a trip to France and took time to learn the language to communicate like it's shown in this video. Why stop there? You want to communicate and social norms play a big role too. Yes, to be fair "nothing" was an exaggeration" however i know alot about many subjects and i was trying to avoid nerding out and explaining every side of a situation. This isn't even an example of that. I completely understand what you mean and agree. Everyone shouldn't have to know anything but even as an American I don't understand many social norms and though I know a lot about America, not knowing the "basics" is like "everything" in social and productive and safe situations. I'm not saying every American despite not clarifying in my original statement. Just so many I see and in my life go so unprepared and I just don't understand why. Other people from other countries too but in talking about this video which is American focused in comedy.
@@cuthip honestly it's just confusion of why would someone take so much time to learn a language to visit a place they don't care about not studying before they go? Not everything but basics like certain social things. She should be able to dress how she wants but it's always good to know what reaction you will get because of that to include getting scammed because most Americans (and others but a lot of Americans) get scammed and talk about their experiences. I hold confusion and worry for my fellow Americans. It's an observation of concern not brutal judgement
