    Just a warning about the Tamiya Panel Line Accent: the paint used in it is enamel based, so if you use it on raw, unpainted polystyrene it can react with the plastic and make it brittle and prone to cracking

    Great video! A small warning though on the use of Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color products, since these are enamels, they tend to break down plastic and cause hairline cracks. This could cause thin plastic especially on joints and parts held under pressure to break. Happened consistently to the kits I built recently. After asking for advice on r/gunpla, I have been told to coat the plastic with some clear coat first before applying the panel lines :)

    Tamiya needs to make an Arcrylic panel liner! I tried to panel line a model after I primed it with an Arcylic white primer and it literally ran into my paint, and the lines became very light and my white primer was patchy grey.

    • @duaniejanes5761
      @duaniejanes5761 Před 6 lety +3

      broderp it's because a primer is not smooth so paint sticks to it better.You should use a gloss clear clear coat over the base coat then do paneling.After the paneling is done, use dull coat clear .If your clear is acrylic then for your paneling should be done in enamel and the other way around if clear is enamel!

    Have a question im new to gunpla I've done 3 MGs so far MG ew epyon 2011 the horrid ew wing zero from 2004 and the new 2020 mg kyrios . So I've used panel lining on both zero and epyon i bought doubles and it seems to have ruined them completly using panel line accent paint from tamiya. Read it was enamel based so I used enamel thinner from testors ( bought it from gundam planet), on zeros head and it started to crumble into pieces. Used the method that was shown here as well. I tried it on epyons wings and its now faded out. Not sure but i am scared to use the panel line accents now.

    • @KikoDaily
      @KikoDaily  Před 4 lety

      Did you add additional thinner to the panel line accent paint? or are you using that to clean it up? I use Mr. Hobby thinner not sure if the thinner you are using is too strong? When I use thinner to clean up the lines i actually keep it lightly damped if i have too much on the qtip i soak it up in a tissue first before lightly going over the lines. do you wipe away the panel line paint right after it dries or do you keep it on? I have heard horror stories about making plastic brittle but i have been using it for 4 years now and i never really had an issue with it. Epyon's color is pretty dark so having it being faded isn't really surprising. I feel the panel line accent black isn't really visible on red colors for some reason. (instagram.com/p/CARQSOBjFbR/? image of my epyon). If you feel like it's too faded you can add another layer on top, definitely shake the container more as well. Not sure if any of this helps :(. Also to keep it from fading after you have your wings dried and done, top coat it. I should be streaming on twitch soon of me panel lining the Kryios sometime maybe next week if you wanted to see how i do it on my end. Just follow my instagram (if you haven't already) and i'll announce the time (instagram.com/kiko.daily)

      @@markpr73 no, I used gundam marker gold, pour it on pallette and pick the ink from gundam marker with toothpick and used it to your gunpla.

      I’m curious about the results of the toothpick vs the PLA. Wouldn’t it be harder to get a consistent application with a tp when the capillary action that the PLA utilizes seems so uniform? Not dissing your method, just questioning how that works if you have to constantly reload the tp? Is it a blotting application or more of a dragging the tip of the tp in the grooves? Got a vid to share? I always enjoy picking up a new technique!

    Do you prefer panel line accid or gundam marker?

      i prefer the panel line accent (paint) way, it's much cleaner of a line than markers, but it does take much more time

      @KikoDaily  Před 3 lety

      i wouldn't recommend using alcohol, i think it's a bit harsher on the plastic than thinner.
