    Just be aware that Mr Clean Magic Eraser is slightly abrasive. It's like a very fine sanding sponge. It's fine if you're panel lining bare plastics, but be careful when you're panel lining on top of painted surface. You might scrub off the paint/coat.

  • @CrimsonFlagg
    @CrimsonFlagg Před rokem +12

    The type of nib you're looking for with the dip pens are called "crow quills." But once you have the nib holder, the nibs themselves, are generally really cheap. Oh and before I forget, brand new pen nibs have an oil coating on them that are meant to help prevent rusting. I don't know what it will do to enamels, but it plays hell with ink. The best way to get it off of the nib is to quickly run it over a lighter. Hold it by the very end of the nib (the side that goes into the holder) and run it quickly over the flame until you feel it get warm.

      I was thinking that some fine grit (2000) sandpaper could be used to shape the tip to a finer point.

      @CrimsonFlagg Před rokem

      @@dorsk84 I wouldn't do that personally. They are extremely thin to begin with, and you don't really want to make them any thinner. It's already very easy to break them.

    A tip i picked up is to trim down the applicators bristles to half or 1/3 of the original amount. It gives more control and reduces the amount of ink that flows into the panel line. It also let you do smaller details without smudge.

    Another awesome test! So I was having difficulty with panel lining and removing excess panel lining on painted pieces, on un-painted pieces I found the Zippo to be the easiest, on painted pieces I found the Zippo actually remove the lacquer paints... My solutions was paint with lacquer / top coat / panel line using acrylic paints with a paint brush and removing the excess with Tamiya Acrylic Paint X-20A thinner. Works great and it opens a lot of different colors combinations.

    I would like to have seen some tests run on some painted pieces ( sometimes I apply the liner after a primer or sometimes a base color too) I feel the 'friction/abrading' options, namely the eraser and Mr. Clean sheets would take some of the paint underneath off too.

    I used the Tamiya panel accent on my expensive Space Battleship Yamato Bandai kit. It made the plastic brittle, broke a few pieces and left micro cracks in the plastic. I will no longer use lacquer panel washes. I will only use an acrylic wash like Vallejo. It’s safe and easy to wipe off with water or acrylic thinner.

    The Mr.Hobby cleaning sticks seem to originally be called "Ruby Sticks" and are for printer cartridge nozzle cleaning from what I have read.
    RubyStick seems to be a US brand so possibly reasonably cheap to get in the US.
    Otherwise there are some 50-piece bags on Aliexpress for ~25$ usually called something like "T21 printer cleaning stick" .
    They are a bit bigger too which I quite like since you can trim them down when they get too gunked up to wash.
    If anyone else is gonna use up a lot of these cleaning sticks, those may be a good grab.

    Magic Eraser works well but I've found that Dollar Tree eraser stick (for pencil marks) works just as well. I use a cheap chip brush to knock off the little tags that come off the eraser (same brush for after I sand nub marks). They come with 3 sticks and a holder, 2 kits later and I still have half the first stick left.

Why not just use enamel thinner like you're supposed to. Does the job much better and easier. Just need to make sure to let the ink to fully dry first. Also' the gundam marker eraser does not work against enamel.

    Gundam marker eraser from my knowledge and experience is intended to be used with the gundam marker paints wich from my understanding are solvent based acrylic, from experimenting it also works with lacquers and solvent based acrylics (mr. Color and tamiya as examples) may or may not work with water-based acrylic and does not work well if at all with enamel. Also from smelling, testing, comparing and trying to recreate gundam marker eraser it is mostly isopropyl alcohol with a bit of lacquer thinner wich in my opinion it's just mr hobby color thinner (the one for solvent based acrylic) with more alcohol.

    • @fagocol98
      @fagocol98 Před rokem

      Ps mr weathering solvent does work with enamel
      Mr weathering solvent is a more gentle enamel thinner and not as reactive with other pain types, I use it because from experience most enamel thinners can react with the paint underneath even when top coated, but mr weathering solvent doesn't. My only gripe with mr color weathering solvent is that if you make your own panel line wash is that if you add to much to the paint at once it turns into a goop, you need to add a few drops at a time and mix, add and mix, add and mix.

    Hey Rex, different topic. Do you or anyone know reading this of a color wheel for colorblind people or people in general not good with colors? The color wheels I have and seen just have the name of the primary colors on the outer edge of the wheel. Im looking for something that actually spells out ALL the colors. For instance on one side the primary color is yellow, but if you add red you get this color "orange" of course but have orange printed there as well. Also on the other side of the wheel you have your primary and complimentary colors say like red-orange; those three colors shades under it are? Tell me what they are, because I am not sure, and I guess and most times Im wrong. I've wasted a lot of paint trying to match colors. I have issues with shades of red, yellow and green. Some green can look brown and some reds can look kinda yellow. I can tell if something is red-red or yellow-yellow or green-green, but many colors can be very close. thanks
