The Vickers Guide series of books by Larry Vickers and James Rupley began as beautifully photographed firearms art books - and that's all they claim to be today. However, with the release of Heckler & Koch Volume 1, the series is doing something really cool: it's leaning into the reference/research realm without compromising its artistic vision. This book includes a third coauthor, James Williamson of Teufelhund Tactical. Between him and Vickers, this book has a remarkable amount of detailed information about the history and development of H&K handguns.
Hanguns, I should say, are the subject of this volume - SMGs and long guns will apparently be covered in Volumes 2 and 3 (yet to be published). Here we start with the HK4 (essentially an improved version of the Mauser HSc), move through H&K's classic non-Browning action designs like the VP70, P7, and P9, and then into the USP series. The Mk 23 is covered in its own specific chapter, and the modern H&K commercial pistols are explored in detail as well (P2000, VP9, P30). The development of the HK45 is also covered in detail, as Larry Vickers was heavily involved in that program.
Frankly, I wish I'd had this book available when I was filming some of my older H&K handgun videos. It has more information than most of the reference books out there, and is an excellent resource for better understanding how H&K has approached the handgun market and handgun design.

Hard to beat the P2000s; one of the few manufacturers that actually sold dual caliber kits, 40 S&W/357Sig. You could even get them with 9mm conversion barrels or the 9mm barrels may very well fit in the 40/357 though I can’t recall exactly. It’s been a long time since I got my 9mm barrel and recoil spring. I know neither caliber is that popular today but it’s hard to beat both in their respective strengths with say 9mm; 40 S&W is excellent at barrier penetration and maintaining lethality post barrier while the 356 Sig just has top notch terminal performance with a flat shooting projectile which at lighter weights can easily penetrate NIJ Level 3A soft body armor. 357 Sig can actually get to SBR velocities and similar weights to AR platforms with 2,500 FPS with 60 Grain projectiles and with even lighter offerings an on par 3k FPS for 55 grain isn’t probably that out of the question.

It is the only SA pistol I own that has never ever bobbled a round on loading, failed to fire, or failed to extract/eject. And this is with factory ammo, cheap reloads, and my own hand loads. It happily eats whatever it's fed. The Glock comes close, but I've had a few issues with it.

It tells very much about the known HK guns, the history of HK, but also about the history about the G11 and other rare HK guns link selfloading shotguns with brass cased ammo. There are pictures from the prototypes and also a picture and a descripion of a HK33 in 4,73 × 33 mm.
