  • Welcome to Collector's Corner--the place for those wanting more nuanced and finer points to collecting Harry Potter books. The nature of Collector's Corner is a bit dryer, simply because it is so information heavy -- again it is geared toward providing information to the novice collector -- or just someone who has been collecting Harry Potter, but wants to step up their collection.
Today's episode is made to help those seeking information about the 1st Edition Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone -- What's valuable, what's not and how to recognize which is which so you don't spend your hard-earned dollars on a book that's not worth it.
If you have any questions about collecting Harry Potter Books, make sure to ask me! You can leave your Questions in the comments below, find me on Instagram (@AllThePrettyBooks) or through my website (www.alltheprettybooks.net). I'll happily look at photos if you want a second opinion as well -- just ask :)
Don't forget about the 2 giveaways I have up for my subscribers!
    - Harry Potter Funko Pop Advent Calendar (Ends November 30!)
    - 20th Anniversary Box Set, illustrated by Brian Selznick -- Ends December 15th!

So happy you made this video! I’ve recently started to collect these UK hardcover editions because I loved the cover art so much! I’ve yet to buy the Philosopher’s Stone book so this video is going to help me so much!

I'd like to begin collecting First Edition Harry Potter Books. Where should I start if I don't have a great deal of money? I don't particularly like paperback, but since I aspire to become a serious collector I understand that there is value in both HB & PB covers. Also, I've seen a few CZcamsr's who have purchased First Edition First Prints Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by Bloomsbury from Libraries (Discarded). How does a person go about doing this? Would this be less costly? Thank-you for any assistance in my journey.

Lorraine Slaughter For starters, WELCOME TO THE COLLECTORVERSE - HOME TO SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET!!
Ok. Well if you’re like me and are attracted to the higher-end and rare things, then you’ll need to make a game plan and start always having spare “book money” on hand; these books are called rare for a reason. The 1st edition, 1st print softcover Bloomsbury Stone (the very first published in 1997) are selling around $11,000 unsigned, condition depending. The hardcover 1st edition, 1st prints are selling much higher as they’re in much more demand. A well-loved ex-library hardcover book 1, 1st print 1st edition sold for about $45,000. And more recently, a 1st print hardcover sold for $120,000. eBay sometimes has a 1st edition, 1st print (hard and soft cover) up for grabs as do auction houses (Christie’s, Sotheby’s and so on). Beginning with hardcover 1st edition, 3rd print Book 1, the prices become much more reachable at about $3500 or less. The biggest question you’ve got to answer is: what do I want to collect and the second is how much do I want to spend. Collecting Harry Potter can cost you as little or as much as you want to spend 😊 Send me an email and we can chat much more in depth 😊 Pleasure to meet you! Happy Collecting!
