That's a valuable lesson for those that don't use geared pegs. I use Wittner geared pegs so don't need fine tuners. Also your online tuner is very accurate. It shows in-tune within 2 cents. A phone app called TE Tuner can show how many cents +/- a pitch is off.

When you tighten it, is it normal for it to immediately unscrew back? I got a very very cheap violin.
This does happen. You can try pushing the peg in as you tighten.

Sometimes my peg sticks and I have to turn it toward me to loosen it. If it keeps happening or it slips I might use a few thin lines of Hill's Peg Compound on the peg. I have to take the peg all the way out and rewind the string afterward, but it's worth it.
Yes, Ruth I always turn the peg towards me first and then back up to pitch when I tune so that I don't go over pitch and stretch out the strings too much.

I am a 12 year old violinist , pianist and guitarist..So due to this pandemic , my violin teacher isn’t able to come for my violin classes. So I haven’t seen any progress since 3 months 😢..I am struggling with high notes alooot..If possible , would you be able to do a tutorial on how to get better at high notes and reduce the squeaky noises ?
