Largely concur- my observations suggest piling up corn results in one thing- deer consume it and leave (and/or, go nocturnal). Disbursing it around an area makes them work for it and keeps them coming back. But- if you're looking to bait, be prepared to add a little here and there for the duration you intend on hunting; no dumping 25# each time you head out. I find that such methods work for gun season when you can be concealed some distance away and not within "effective bow range"! Up close is fine for turkeys and squirrels, but generally not deer after they've been exposed to human intrusions.

My husband thinks I'm crazy because I walk through the woods in all seasons and throw corn out in lines. We haven't hunted here in years, but this year we are. He also doesn't listen to me when I tell him where the deer run. He's determined to hunt in the same easy warm place. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @ragnarw6600

Yep! Been tossing it out, or walking in a long line dumping it out. Make them work for it! Lasts a lot longer! Especially if you have bears around that will sit there and scoop it all up in one feeding. Looking at planting a few rows of corn next spring.

Try using an over the shoulder bag spreader to evenly sling the corn out .Works good on hogs as you can move more in the direction you want .Too many hogs on a pile eat too much .After all they eat like pigs .

Hey Dave I've been following you for awhile since day 1 and love your info and tips and awesome vids. I'd like to chime in if you don't mind. I live in south Georgia when I mean south I mean the very bottom right hand corner. Ga/ fla line where we have no agriculture what so every in my area so corn piles are very popular and effective here. Everything you said I agree 100%..when it comes to corn"piles" I say this is a method better for inventory I think. Now I've killed some studs on a corn pile . On the theory of why deer get nervous approaching is because I think also is a deer will not bed far from a food source especially a pile of corn I've had hundreds of deer bed right @the bait site or close by. So that deer is not far and you never know when that deer wants to feed so you could bump a deer from the time you get to your area. One when I feed up or even check cameras (thankGodforcell cams,😁) I'd act as if I'm going to sit that setup. Wind, scent free as possible, camo, stealth mode. I don't think you should do so otherwise. Bc a deer only needs it nose and ears to bust you or get spooked. So bait as if your going to hunt. 2 also yes cast that corn bc how many time has a deer Cross your path coming in and blow you out or spook bc of . So when you stand on in around that corn pile guess what a deer has to put his nose to the ground to eat, stinky shoes? Busted and alerted. So when you cast the corn out your not actually stepping in that zone where it has to stick it's nose!
It's very hard to slip in and out a bait site without encounter a deer every time..so I mainly like to set corn site for gun hunts like you said 75-100 out perfect. Bc as always that deer is coming from down wind so he's gonna scent check before committing to come in . Thanks for letting me put in my 2cents. Keep that good ol knowledge and vids coming in , the outdoor fans are rooting for ya , keep up the good work And if your ever taking in Team Members to cover the south I'd like to apply😁. #Happy hunting and holidays to everyone.
    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I also agree with that. Typically when deer grow up on feeders from birth it makes it better over time. They get used to it. I had a spot years ago when I would fill a feeder and 3 mins after I left they would come running in to eat it. They know the sounds and get used to it. Thanks for being a subscriber and appreciate the comment 👊

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors yes sir I know exactly what your talking about, except down here that feeder is a dinner bell for the hogs. As you can see, my contribution to my gamekeeper side is running them with dog. . They destroy food plots and turkey nest..Don't mess with my turkeys😆. But ive also started steering myself away from corn once the season starts. My success rate has went up on less hunts. Better off just hunting those travel corridors... .but that's another. Thanks for the reply and pin,Good chatting with ya bud.. Have a Great Thanksgiving see next vid!

I must have dumb deer where i am. Had 3 small bucks at my corn opening morning, early season i hav to shoot a doe 1st. My corn is bout 15 yds from stand. After the 3 small bucks come in, a doe comes in about 10 yds and I smoked her. The 3 bucks didnt even move and one actually walked under my stand smelling where i walked to the tree and also smelled where i shot the doe and than they casually walked off. Yes they were young bucks but dumb and later in the day i shot an 8 pt in velvet 37 yds n not over corn. Also these deer dont worry bout wind direction, they come in with my wind blowing to them with no worries. I do live in NJ where they are around lot of people. Good content though, i usually dump bout half of a 2 1/2 gallon bucket of corn at a time n no problem so far but thanks for info
