How To Defuse A Bomb | Minutes With | UNILAD

- In this episode of ‘Minutes With’, we sat down with Chris Fuller, a former British Army Bomb Disposal Officer, who now does humanitarian work in the Middle East defusing bombs left behind ISIS.
Chris talks to us about defusing bombs in the centre of London, and the difference between working in the UK and abroad. He then tells one of the most incredible stories we've ever heard in this series, when he describes his method for defusing an ISIS IED.

The fact that he is still completely intact tells me he really knows what he’s doing.
Agreed, but there's gotta be a lot of luck involved too.

'Be wary of old Men in professions where boys die young'
What a gripping interview, I'd like a full hour of this guy.
I wish he`d have his own youtube channel. I would have a ton of questions.
He's actually 21 - it's just the stress
I wouldn't be wary of this guy, especially if he was the person teaching me to do his job, I would listen very carefully to every word he has to say, because he obviously knows what he is doing.
@@gutz323 you understand the sentiment right?
Agreed! I wished him a good healthy life! God blesses the peacekeepers!
Fair fucks to ladbible for making this stuff. This is proper journalism, the people watching are free to make up their own minds. Humility and realism, no bragging about heroism, no nationalism, just one brave human being helping another. Empathy is not something usually celebrated, especially in war. It's beautiful to see.

Infinite respect to the Aussie bomb disposal experts that kept me alive in Afghanistan. Out the front of our vehicles in 45 degree heat with full battle rattle scanning our route through a mountain range for 7 hours. 5 IEDs just on the one route on a single day. They don't get paid enough.
What a legend. No arrogance, just skilled and saving lives. Kudos.
eod is one of the most dangerous jobs to do tbh, hats off to the lads that do it
@Khalil G dealing with explosives is always dangerous, no matter who made them. Most conventional explosive incidents in europe are with very very old pieces of munition (grenades, bombs, mortar shells, rifle grenades, etc etc) and they are still dangerous. If they were not dangerous, people wouldnt send EOD out for it. These guys know what they are doing and they make it relatively safe (relative being the key word). And working with homemade stuff is incredibly common in places like afghanistan. its IED central there.
@@HuskyTheDog2202 ofc they are, i read a book from a guy who had his leg blown off from one
@Khalil G even if its old, it coild explode, like u said, on inpact, most unexploded ww2 bombs were dofferent as they either exploded using a ticker, or impact. when ww2 had the blitz, some ticking bombs dodnt explode, so what they do nowadays is they put this fluid in the ticker to stock any potential ticks, then they dismantle the bomb and difuse it
@Khalil G good good, appreciate too
@Khalil G I do the same job as Chris and, you are not correct. There are no written instructions from a manufacturer on how to deal with their item of ordnance should it fail because there are a multitude of reasons why it may fail. Instructions or Render Safe Procedures as we call them, come from Operators that have gone before and written down what they did. Take a German WW2 bomb for instance (as Chris discusses), that bomb could potentially have three fuses in it, one in the nose, one transverse (on the side) and one in the tail. Whilst Chris rightly points out that a clock could have stopped, many bombs were dropped with time delay fuzes built into them and until you get at the fuze and see the markings, you will not know what it is that you are dealing with and even then, it was not massively uncommon for markings to be deliberately mislabeled. Your comment regarding home made stuff (IED's) is also incorrect. There are literally hundreds of ways in which you could make an IED function and the Operator needs to formulate his own plan based on the information that he gleans at the approach to and observation of the target item. We have one over riding thought. If the target for / of the IED is not obvious then, its you.
Employer: How well do you perform under pressure ?
This Gentleman: Yes
So that's what a real hero looks like. :)
@@dean8367 more valuable, there is a lot of doctors out there. Not many of these guys though.
My Grandad was bomb disposal in WW2, in North Africa fighting against Rommel, luckily made it back from the war but had a lot of stories about things gone wrong. He told my Dad about a time he accidentally sent troops into a "safe" trench to avoid a blast of a bomb he was currently defusing, but the trench was also booby trapped but never gave any more details. War is brutal. Nothing but respect to this hero and all he does.
I worked with this Technician in Syria, he is an excellent EOD Technician and one helluva good man, was an real honor to work with him
Like combat medics, EOD’s risk their lives for the sake of saving the innocent. Huge respect for people like this!
I'm guessing he was a royal engineer same as me , we did very basic explosive training but the eod guys are just so far above any training I had an I was a pro, these guys when u are around them u can feel something special , they are true heros that think they are just doing their job and not saving a life.
Best mate was a Medic too, hes a paramedic now, 4 combat tours , got married in Iraq, got that illness people get i forget wat its called and he walked straight out of camp into a minefield totally delirious an an made it out off his tree poorly hes mentally drained after all these years , its the civvy life thats done it too, too many kids die too young😔
His soft-spoken voice makes his stories more intense.
I was literally sitting on the edge of my chair when he explained how he defused that IED.
What a hero.
He’s probably the most calm human ever
What an incredible, selfless man. Huge respect 🇬🇧
I was EOD in the Army, 12 years. I did a tour in Bosnia, disarming land mines, and two tours in Iraq. I would go back to Bosnia, anytime, before going back to Iraq.
The ordinances used in Iraq were very unstable and unpredictable.
Thanks for sharing your balls of steel with the world, much appreciated

Should call this guy to defuse a room when it’s full of tension.
Brilliant 😂

Example of someone whos actually figthing for freedom.
And he's not americsn lol
That’s a ridiculous statement. A man fighting for freedom does not work for a oppressive government, and not speak on its problems. This is a man who keeps his mouth shut and takes orders, regardless of right and wrong.
Regardless he’s respectable for doing what he does, but he is not a freedom fighter. Most Brits are not, the Brits do not care about freedoms they care about security by a large majority unlike other nations with more variety of policies and politics. Britain is a left wing ideology state, freedom is not a priority. Forcing peace, safety is, even if that just means hiding evil when it’s still there.
@@YusuphYT i think he means fighting for freedom in the sense that he doesn't need to do this job in places like iraq or Syria for the UK but rather is doing it for himself, and the freedom perhaps is liberating people from the danger and menace that is unexplored ammunitions

Selfless & matter of fact. No sensationalism, just utilising his hard-earned skill set to save those so much less fortunate & deserving!!

That's a man's man right there. Good guy, balls of steel. Hats off to putting your life on the line for the benefit of others.
He's the real deal, a hero. People always say that the soldiers are the heroes, especially in my country. But I think it's the people who help pick up the pieces that are truly worthy of respect.
There’s no bragging in this series of videos/interviews; people with real life experience talk in a measured calm way and it’s so impressive and reassuring. Thanks to all of you.
So calm and calculated. Wow what an incredible human being
This is powerful. He is so genuine, humble, and selfless..... he literally is living his life for other people. This is exactly the type of info civilians should be receiving from LADbible
"how you ever seen a disposal go wrong?"
"no"
Yeah, he has, his eyes told a hell of a story in that split second he said no. Too humble, too grounded and too emotionally scarred to want to talk about it.
What a great guy, truly, a great act of selflessness. Nothing but absolute respect for him. Was a privelage to listen to him speak.
I suspect that it's rare to have more than one EOD technician working on a site at once so he might never have been close enough to actually see an incident. You'd also be subject to hearing a lot of radio chatter which I can only imagine is pretty harrowing when you hear of an explosion in an area that you knew your friends and colleagues were active in. Utmost respect to him and the other selfless souls who do this kind of stuff, the weight they carry is more than anyone should ever have to bear.
He dont want dancing daesh on his collagues grave. Thats why he said no. Cheering muslim is always frightening
@@DjDolHaus86 radio chatter would be very rare my friend, this is due to a thing called RF hazard which is the risk of radio signals setting off an electric detonator. We tend to walk back from the danger zone to the OP if we need to discuss anything or communicate with the EOD team. All communications equipment is turned off during a live operation.
@@markl9841 I don't mean directly from the job site, I just mean you've got a vague idea of who's working where/when and if something goes wrong you'll hear calls for emergency response and be able to put the pieces together in your head.

In Northern Ireland a Sgt. Bomb disposal lived within the camp, he died trying to defuse an IRA bomb. Two weeks later his replacement arrived and he died within a few days on another bomb. The saddest thing was that we were still receiving their mail for months after their deaths. Soldiers were dying on a daily basis and the press no longer reported the incidents or stuck it on the back page. I still remember those brave men.
