As if the pilots don't already have enough on their plate, the strong winds blowing at the Airport made things even worse. Hats off to the pilots who landed the aircraft safely and did go-arounds when in the slightest doubt!
The flights in this video are Bhutan Airlines flight B-3718 from Mumbai (BOM) to Paro (PBH) and Druk Air flight KB-203 from New Delhi (DEL) to Paro (PBH). Both flights were operated by Airbus A319, which is capable of STOL (Steep takeoff and landing), which is required to get in & climb out of the valley!

what about the video of the druk air touch and go?! it's only pictures.
I thought the camera was recording, but it wasn't. The screen wasn't clearly visible in the Sun, I missed it :(
Will have to live with it now..
The pictures were clicked by my dad who was standing next to me!
@@tusharsinha94 ouch. yeah too bad....
@@gregolino86 thanks for asking :)
Fantastic!!!!
Where is Paro ?
Great footage. And the fact that these pilots recognize an unstabilized approach and go around is a testament to their skill and professionalism. Good job.
Exactly, thank you!
No they are doing touch and go to train.
@@muckeyduck3472 Maybe, but highly unlikely they would be practicing touch and goes in a $100,000,000 airplane. That's what sims are for.
@@flyingbatfish touch & go is part of an endorsement flight before a pilot is rated to fly the A320 & we do it in actual planes. But not in airports like Paro where you have to be a an experienced captain & specifically trained & rated to shoot an approach and land in that airport.
That approach in unstabilized by design
I found both attempts beautiful and the third was a perfect and smooth landing !! Extremely good pilot at what he does !! I loved this video !!
Thank you!
Nice filming! Always wanted to see go-arounds at Paro. Thank you.
My pleasure :)
Respect to the pilots who step over their pride and go to another round! Sing of a professional ethical pilot who puts passengers' safety first.
Agreed 💯
Wow...what a video!
Awesome video. Just loved it. Re watching
Thank you Tanu, I can really use the encouragement!
I love you 💛 Bhutan ♥️ from Nepal 🇳🇵
Love from India to both :)
After using so many Modern and Complicated kind of Airports , Bhutan Airport felt Like a Paradise ,Surrounded by Mountainous terrain with Cold windy breeze . It was facinating to stay at a beautiful Resort , Just opposite the Paro Airport and Watching the Landing & ,taking off of the Flights The Fresh Air, Delicious Food , Fine Alcholic beverages with fine hospitality will be remembered for ever.
Indeed a lovely place, with lovely people :)
Oh the hotel is just next to airport. What's the hotel name? Room rate? Is it a busy airport? Like to go there.
Thank you for your safety flight😍
Nicely shot !
Thank you :)
Awesome Video. 👌 Great Work!!!
Thank you!
A nice display of true airmanship on a difficult approach. I did not see any reason why the first attempt was aborted after a perfect approach. The main landing gear was just a foot or so from the runway on what looked like a safe landing was assured. I am a retired airline pilot so I can appreciate the skills these pilots have flying this approach and landing.
Thank you :)
Is there a chance that this pilot was training go arounds for this airport? I dont know. Genuine question.
Maybe they ran out of the touchdown zone in that 1st try, or felt that way. The app and flare looked all good, but maybe "too good" to make a necessary firm touchdown.
@@dpgoulette I checked the aircraft on flight radar and it seemed to be doing commercial flights
Respectfully disagree. Not putting a craft down during satisfactory, doable approach is just courting danger. Get the damn plane on the ground and quit futzing around.
Amazing Video...! 👍👍👍
Thank you!
When you fly out you see Mt Everest .. so cool. I can't wait to go back to Bhutan.
I did, yet to edit that video :)
Wow! What a cool video
Thank you 😊
I love the way to land the A319 and even 3 missed approach, first approch was so nice bank turned increasing the altitude
Thank you!
Nice video!
As someone said it 'no room for mistakes' hats off to the pilots.. Man, talking about hard...
Correct! Btw I have another Paro video by that name ;)
Hope to fly there in the near future, and hope to get a window seat. Great videos
We all hope so :)
Very very excited paro
Both pilots show great professionalism..safety first as always..
True
Great vedio
I am very much Fond of this Very Very Attractive Paro Airport . No doubt that Its so interesting to keep on watching the Landing and Taking Off of the Aircrafts at Paro . I had a Luck to stay about One Wk , just in front of this Airport and observe all those Exciting Activities there .
That's awesome!
As a passenger, I always feel confident about my safety in flight, because I figure that the pilots don’t want to die anymore than I do. Even if they don’t care about the passengers, they certainly care about themselves and are going to do whatever they can to get the plane safely on the ground.

😅
Well some pilots are mentally unstable and will suicide crashing the wholenplane so you never know
It is the maintenance guy that worked on your right engine the night before that you have to worry about. You know, the guy on meth, getting a divorce and having his car repossed.

Speaking as a person who has been in the jump seat for numerous takeoffs & landings at PBH on Bhutan Air & Druk Airover the past 1.5 decades & with the greatest respect to the talented Bhutan Air Pilots, the approach from the north & then a sharp 180 to land from the south was not an approved landing pathway for many years. Safe, yes but fraught with challenges for the crew during marginal atmospheric conditions in PBH that often occur without warning.. DrukAir pilots are/were directly trained by Airbus 319 trainers typically recommend that pilots only use the straight in Southern approach or the straight in Northern approach when available.
Agreed completely, some very skilled people in the cockpit. And you're lucky to have had the jumpseat there!
what was wrong with the first attempt, it seemed he was feet from landing?
Lucky you! I had the great good fortune to be a passenger to Paro once and the string flight was a highlight of the trip.
And trained to not even attempt to land unless under certain conditions.
Excellent 😍👌
Thank you :)
3:53 I like the limo tint on the front windshield, it looks cool!
Right!
Wauuu is beautyful Bhutan the airport is xtreme Old aventure
Yeah, thanks for watching :)
This is beauty of safe landing.
I am not a clapper but these landings deserve claps! 🎉
Haha yes
Great footage, Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing pilots
Indeed
i personally thanked the pilot
Respect to the pilots
Very nice
Awesome.
Bravo to the pilot for the professional level of 🛬 air manship
Indeed
Very nice video.
Thank you
Isn’t A5-RIM the exact plane in which Sam Chui was flown in by Capt. Chenga? Amazing footage, thank you for sharing!
Thank you :) I guess the fleet size for the airline wouldn't be very large, so that's possible! I have seen the video, don't remember the aircraft but if you're saying it should be right!
Yes
Great job
Thanks!
nice footage. i wonder if they will ever do some terraforming, to stop the last mountain from obscuring the airport
Thank you, maybe if they expect more traffic. They might attempt a new airport somewhere else too!
Super I liked the view
Thank you :)
Great
sooooooo amazing
Thank you!
Well done
Thank you
As a Bhutanese, I would understand why there was multiple go-around. The mountains and high terrain does not cope with the high winds as well.
this was unique captain,
If I was a passenger on that first plane, I want the pilots to take as many go-arounds as they feel like. Touch and go some more. Here, take my money.
Huge +1 to that! 😃
✈ as a seasoned pilot i don't alway make a go around but when i do... i prefer three times
✈ Stay airborne my friends ✈
Nice filming and melodious background tunes.what about the such a nice tunes?
It's Overcome from CZcams audio library.
Awesome footage and mountain view. You can film inside the airport area? No security? Worth a visit there. What cam you use? Subbed!
I actually filmed this from outside the perimeter. Security isn't much of an issue. I used an old Sony Handycam with 32X optical zoom :)
This is a unique airport!
And beautiful!
I am from the area. I think this is a regular training session
Public comments.very nice 👍 amazing landing,I really like it.great job pilots.
Thank you!
👏👏👏👏👏.....
Hey! We love your video about Paro Airport. Would it be okay for us to use a few clips for our airports story and credit your channel in the footage and description?
Sure, go ahead 👍
@@tusharsinha94 Thank you so much!
Only 24 pilots!? WOW. That tells the lot.
Awesome capture! May I feature this first go around in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!
Hey, sure buddy! Been watching your videos for a while now, was hoping to get featured someday 😀
@@tusharsinha94 Cool, thanks, glad to hear!
Wow, they sure keep their reversers on untill they have to turn.
Probably not wishing to risk an sudden wheel brakes failure, just after landing safely.
Nice video 👍
Thank you :)
U welcome
I think he did it on purpose young version of the captain enjoyed it
An airport where the approach minimums are at 18,000 feet, as soon as u come out of class A airspace!
Nerves of steel... Great landing. Even if it took 3 tries.
👍👏👏👏😍
They may also fly in with a certified pilot in the jump seat to guide them as we have seen in the TriMG landing disaster. Wonder if they were getting a newbie on the route...
Could be, but 2 airplanes made 3 missed approaches that day. So I am tending more towards windy conditions :)
What a great skill.
True
Thanks God
Those Pilots they are Super heroes.
True!
How long does it take to circle around for another attempt? I saw charts and seems like a lot of extra miles.
20 minutes if I remember. I'll need to check timestamps on old videos, will update if I find something.
could be an orientation flight for new 1st officers
✌
I’m going to take my car! 😂😂😂😂😂
What was wrong with 1st?
What insane telephoto are you using there?!
It's a Sony Handycam with max optical zoom of 32X. I usually use upto 25-30X, as it's not stable after that in my hand.
This airport is quite small, so I'll actually not much fast from the closer end of the runway here!
The all use Airbus, great choice 👍🏿
I don't think he "missed" the first attempt. He was lined up well but it looked like the crosswind was too strong. You can tell by the tilt of the wings.
I agree, but… If in doubt, go around. 👍
Always.
The first approach was fine.. The wind rocked the wings a little bit but he recovered and would have landed fine. If others used this as a criteria for a go around... There'd be hundreds every day.
7000 😲.. Only pilots can understand
I landed in Paro in September 2019 and the taxi way at that time was not in operation. It is not dangerous if you have suitably qualified pilots. Challenging yes.
Any commercial airport should definitely be at most challenging! An actual dangerous airport should not exist!!
nice catch man
Thank you!
Treinament copilot ???
Hahaha
Awesome pilot.
Thanks for the visit
Nice to watch smooth landing at the third attempt against the heavy wind at Paro runway
Thank you, glad you liked it :)
Why did the first plane go around when the landing was assured, and the wheels just inches from touchdown? It was a nice bit of airmanship just to get in the landing groove, only to abandon the landing.
We didn’t have a go-around at Paro, but we did have to circle the airport for half an hour until the pilot could see the runway. It’s an amazing approach.
Amazing!
Trainig flights ?
Not aware, I think it came from BOM.
Flown into Paro several times, had a few aborted landings and a few where the weather got bad quickly and we had to return to Delhi and wait it out.
Would be an experience!
What was the issue in the first attempt?? Can anyone explain me??
Could be floating past the touchdown point, winds coming in at the last moment, or anything else. Difficult to tell from my position!
Better safe than sorry
So exciting. What if the wind is really strong? What's the closest other airport?
I'll check if I can find some info on that. There are a few other airports in Bhutan, but not sure if they can handle A319s.
Guwahati, India might be a nearby option I guess...
Guwahati India, bagdogra India.

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍
extreme winds?? I don't see any tree or grass or anything else moving, see for example at 1:20
missed approach practice run for the specific airport... approach was fine
Second attempt was a shocker. The first one looked good enough but he must have been at max crosswind. Never good to have that pedal to the metal and not straighten up the plane.
what's was the problem with the second attempt?
Why do you pull wheels up on a "go around"?
Landing gear increases the drag on the airframe significantly. A go around is treated similar to a takeoff, you need to contact departure frequency and have them route you back to arrivals controller. It's a fairly long process, and you don't want to be dealing with the drag during the climb and on the way back.
First you practise take-offs twice, so you know for sure that you can get out of there, then you land... 😉
Haha
the first plane looked fine, I wonder why he went around. And I was looking at the trees and it really didn't look that windy.
Same thoughts
captain's judgement felt something wrong so for the safety of the passengers he made a call
Short runway & the plane floated probably due to early flare so he went around. That’s what I think it was from my perspective as a pilot after checking the runway length of this airport. But none of us were in the cockpit to confirm it.
He probably saw that his airspeed was too high to enable stopping before the end of the runway. At an airport like this, it's critical to have the exact airspeed nailed down. The pilot exercised superior judgement.
Cause This is training you fools !!
Same as Kathmandu airport
It's more dangerous than Tribhuvan Airport. I've been to both, this is something different :)
Why don't they just land from the other side if they'll able to climb on the go around?
It's just as bad as this! So they go with the wind (or against it should I say).
