On the 18th May 2012, the day before Chelsea won their first Champions League title, N'golo Kante made his debut for US Boulogne as a 21 year old as the club, based in the North of France, were relegated from Ligue 2.
From that disappointing start Kante’s rise has been nothing short of miraculous, as he earned a move first to Caen, then Leicester City and finally Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Europa League and most recently the Champions League. Not only that but after finally establishing himself at international level with France in 2016, he helped Les Bleus to the Final of the Euros that summer and won his nation’s 2nd ever World Cup two years later.
For a player deemed not good enough by a host of clubs and Clairefontaine, the French national youth academy, Kante has managed to become one of the defining players of his generation, whilst his shy, humble and lowkey nature, summed up by playing FIFA and watching Match of the Day with complete strangers in Kings Cross in 2018, has won him legions of fans worldwide.

I couldn’t care less if Kanté wins a Ballon D’or or not. A Ballon d’or is nothing compared to the love Kanté gets from fans all around the world. Even the fiercest of rival fans have nothing but love for him. And imo that matters the most.

Kante is one of the greatest players to ever do it. I always say he's Messi's defensive and off the ball equal. And yet, he seems underrated when seasons are in full swing.

@@georgeynwa9414 Why would it be a joke? Kante is a true legend of the game, raises the level of any team he plays for, is a genuinely nice guy unlike most players and especially the greedy, selfish, cold as ice Messi. He deserves all the plaudits he gets as they are justified.

Imagine how many potentially world class players are being overlooked all over the world because they don't stand out like a Messi or a Ronaldo but just quietly get the work do and have incredible underlying and understated stats. FIFA needs to get proper leagues set up around the world or at the very least some good youth development centres. The future of football is something I can't wait to see. Cazorla thinks dribbling has been replaced with pace but I don't think so. The footballing world simply doesn't have its eyes wide open enough.

Idc whether the shouts are justified or not, he is not overrated. Apart from those 2 post injury dips under Lampard, kante has been nothing short of phenomenal. The consistency in his position is almost unrivalled and it's really upsetting seeing people calling him overrated just due to the ballondor shouts.

Ok so there is a Kanté love fest in full swing, following his highly influential contribution to Chelsea's CL victory, but can anyone show me, just for the sake of information, whether his stats are the best in the PL or throughout Europe, which might persuade me that the hype is justified? He is a great player, no doubt, who has had a meteoric rise to stardom from just five or six years ago, but we are talking Ballon D'Or here.
