@@theslowtravelsfamily I stayed in Rugby and took train to London Buckingham Palace, tea in the garden just five days before the Queen passed. I adored her! Traveled from South Hampton port on the Queen Mary 2. Oxford, Many palaces. Didn't make it to northern England. Really enjoyed it all!

Thanks for the trip home! We hope to visit next April. We usually stay in Millers Dale. We have friends who live in Edensor so that was also fun to see. I remember eating scones in the church during their village festival.

Hi Brenda 🥰 So glad you enjoyed this weeks quieter episode around home. We’ve had a full on week planned around the Cotswolds, Cornwall and then up to Scotland over half term at school so thought we’d keep the days before going away a little quieter! The paper crowns are a fascinating survival, I love the story behind them. Thank you ☺️🙏 I’m looking forward to vlogmas, there’s SO many places I want to share and the festive period is the perfect time when everywhere is looking fabulous in their decorations! I hope you have a a wonderful week too 😊❤️

There's quite a lot more to the Kathleen Kennedy story than you mentioned. In 1944 she was married to the Marquess of Hartington, the son and heir to the Duke of Devonshire, for only 4 months before he was killed in action in Belgium, where he is buried with his fellow soldiers. (They had only spent about 5 weeks married together before he went off to war.) She died in 1948 in a plane crash in the south of France while on vacation with her new boyfriend, the 8th Earl Fitzwilliam, who she planned to marry as soon as he got divorced. She had majorly disappointed her Catholic family by marriage outside the faith, even to an aristocrat, so when her father came to England to handle her burial, the story from Deborah, the later Duchess of Devonshire (she married the younger brother and heir to the Marquess) is that she suggested "well, technically she was still the Marchioness of Hartington, so you're welcome to bury her in the village churchyard with the other Cavendish family members". He had her buried there, with no other Kennedy family members attending, and it wasn't until 1963 that JFK made a private visit to his sister's grave, which sits near the dukes of Devonshire but without her husband. JFK was assassinated just a few months after his visit, but other Kennedy family members have visited since, it's been reported. There's a black and white photo of Kathleen in the family gallery of portraits inside Chatsworth that you can see on the tour. She was only 28 when she died.

There most certainly is! Such a sorry tale. I didn't include any further information as I was planning to do an episode on the fascinating women of Chatsworth, from Deborah (last of the Mitford Sisters) Georgiana Devonshire, Kathleen, Mary Queen of Scots, Adele Astaire and of course Elizabeth Shrewsbury. Thank you for providing this detailed comment for viewers to read into Kathleen's story as it may well be a while before I get my episode made :)
