That wasn’t the case so said the flight investigators! Just before they left AL, one if the engines wasn’t working, too often a problem! This heater also! The band hated the plane & Rick had decided to retire it so no one would get hurt when he got home. Sadly, only the pilots made it out alive & the main pilot was berated for not knowing enough about the plane & pilot error! That pilot was fined! It was a DC-3, a cargo plane used in WWII!
A neighbor girl wrote this song and she was very bashful as the story goes, but she got up enough nerve to go to Ricky's house and present the song to him. He liked it and the rest is history.
