Not nearly enough credit is heaped on Sean for the fact that he eats every wing and hot sauce along with his guests and somehow just keeps rolling with ZERO drama. It's truly amazing.

@@haghendowdy4750 That would make perfect sense, but the fact is Sean didn't spend a lifetime eating spicy foods. In fact, he's stated in interviews that he wasn't even particularly fond of spicy foods before Hot Ones started. So he's relatively new to it all, which makes it all the more amazing!
@@jakemitchell1671 but hot ones has been going on for at least 4 years- that's a pretty sizeable amount of time to get used to something- no hate to Sean just saying the body will adapt incredibly well when given a long enough exposure to a stimuli
@@haghendowdy4750 Fair point, and I agree that we adjust quickly with repeated exposure, BUT....I still contend what he does is incredibly special, and very, very few people could pull it off. Not only does he deal with the same "stimuli" as his guests, but he NEVER loses his composure, while continuing to ask compelling questions. While I see your basic point, I think you're WAY too eager to sweep his contribution under the rug and imply that it's no big deal. I believe it's extraordinary. We may have to respectfully agree to disagree on this one :))

This would be podcast # 5 or 6 with Matt, its great how he hasn't really rerun stories. Except for the ones that are needed for press points.
You would like the audiobook version of Greenlights, he reads it himself. It reads like a series of short personal stories about his life, similar to the stuff you might hear while throwing back a few cold ones, some the stories seem to be similarly embellished. Entertaining and laid back.
He just seems like a goofy dad who had some wild years in his past.
Their whole family are goofy dads. Rooster, Matthew's brother was making jokes about his kid coming out black when my mom was giving his family an ultra sound.

@Kate F yea but a great interviewer gives the energy that makes them want to answer it in depth, some interviewers are confrontational or seem like they are only asking for clickbait material later. Sean asks in such a way they answer much deeper than most people would answer in a different environment, the wings help with that

I’m a huge fan who’s unfortunately hard of hearing and only getting progressively harder of hearing as I get older and hoping that hot ones can potentially get some comprehensive subtitles!
Feel free to boost this in the hopes they’ll add this for us HoH fans!
The lack of good subtitles on a big Show is always surprising to me. It does not take so many manhours to make subtitiles.

Sean's greatest asset is his ability to adapt. In the first episodes, he played thr cocky card, he didn't ask great questions, and it didn't work so well. He then dropped the cockiness for the "brother next door" persona and dove deep into his research and asked better questions, and he tightened up his follow up questions to bring more out of the guest. Sean is now up there with the upper echelon interviewers like Graham Norton, Charlie Rose, etc. Sean deserves the best.
He just needs to learn to not cut his guests answers off early when he does in person interviews

I looooove that a recurring theme in these interviews is actors saying "that's a great question" bc the questions really are amazing and obviously take a lot of research and effort to come up with
I've mostly enjoyed Matthew's work but it was in listening to Greenlights recently that I formed a true appreciation for the man and his commitment to his art and family.
He's had an interesting life that I never expected from him and the way he navigates through it is nothing short of inspiring. Phenomenal man overall in my opinion.
Matthew McConaughey is so down to earth. He seems like he could sit down with anyone, literally from any walk of life, and instantly be friends with them. He's one actor I would love to meet. His positivity is something the world desperately needs to adapt.
Someone from Austin here: he's been known to give "rides home" or something official that UT had before the pandemic. Can you imagine being a bit wasted and having Matthew pick you up for the ride home?
Never forget: Sean Evans is an excellent interviewer because he allows his guests to speak without interruption.

I like him as an actor or just guy, but he's a loser as a potential politician (Governor). He blew it when he said, "Gun owners need to take one for the team", referring to trying to ban semiautomatic rifles. No bud, there is no "team" and we aren't going to "take one". There is only the Constitution, no compromises. He ended his potential run for Governor of Texas when he said that. Texans aren't on board with that crap. Stick to movies.

Well a person's on screen persona and the actual person are two different things. Everyone puts up fronts for various reasons, basically it's a celebrity's main job to maintain a public persona that shows themselves in a favorable light. Never know who they really are unless you know them personally, aside from that you can only base your opinion of them on what you see, hear and read.
For me, I have enjoyed a lot of the roles he has done. Can't say much for him as a person, seems alright enough from this and other interviews I've seen. Some commercials he had done though I think are incredibly pretentious, but I don't really hold it against him that much.

My favorite thing about him is he fell into acting, but when he said, "you'd be a lot cooler if you did" in Dazed, I was forever hooked and in love with this dude. I've always been like a moth to a bulb when his name appears on a marquee. He's also a guru. Forever fan. Buying your book right now!!! Stay cool and breezy, brother.
Matthew McConaughey seems like a man who truly put in the work to find the formula to a good life.. not taking it too seriously, learn from it, be around good people, give back, and work hard! Seems like a really good guy and I’d be honored to meet him one day! Can’t wait to read his book!
