Often referred to as “Europe’s #1 Rock Show,” Countdown was on-the-air for 16 years (1977-1993), and was broadcast in 18 countries, making it one of the most successful music shows in the history of television.
The archive contains over 3,000 hours of musical performances, interviews and concert appearances by the greatest rock, R&B, pop, new wave and rap/hip-hop artists of the era, including: Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, U2, Michael Jackson, The Police, David Bowie, Beastie Boys, George Harrison, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, Run-DMC, Depeche Mode, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Blondie, The Cure, R.E.M., and thousands more.
Reelin’ In The Years Productions has available for licensing over 20,000 hours of music footage spanning 90 years. As a Dutch boy I did of course grow up with Countdown but never knew it was broadcast in 18 countries.
tabasco I only ever saw this Countdown in later life on CZcams, and had never heard of the programme before now.

I remember the presentator was Adam Curry, who is Dutch or partly Dutch. Later he did also some MTV show.

Love Gloria and the Miami Sound Machine. Her husband Emilio was apart of the band. I think he managed everything. And they're still together knock on wood. Awesome. SELENA's husband Chris was a part of her band also. They would've still been together had she lived. I believe this. Latin women are more moralistic and family origin. Also currently Gloria's husband Emilio helps manages SELENA's husband Chris's band 'The Chris Perez Project'. Small world indeed.

It’s bad enough that she is lip syncing, but the band is band syncing too. Lol. Is that even a term? Band syncing? Lol
Back then, this was how performers promoted their singles on television. It wasn’t about trying to recreate their live concerts. If you want to blame anybody for this, it would be Dick Clark all the way back in the 1950’s with American Bandstand. He first started this practice as a way to keep performers from doing anything that was potentially offensive. Plus, it saved a lot of time and money on sound checks.
