Please, don't be that creepy. If she wanted you to get into it, she would have invited you.
Oil lamps invite the gaze whereas LEDs make you look away.
Brighter ain't necessarily better - A traditional hot or cold blast tube lantern puts out just enough illumination without compromising your night vision. A couple of oil lamps around a campfire adds buckets of cosiness but a super 'efficient' LED lamp just dazzles with a soulless cold hard light. Wander through a campsite with an LED torch and every tent knows when you're walking towards them.
Those are great lanterns. I have two that I hang at each end of my Whelen lean to. I have never used lamp oil or kerosene, which is too expensive. I have always used off road diesel. At less than two bucks per gallon here in Texas, it is a no brainer. They work great using the diesel and they will burn on a low setting all night long. I have never had a problem doing it. Also, you are not limited to using the supplied cup and pan. I have used all kinds of different pans on mine. It does take a while for the coffee pot to boil though.
I needed this back in the Winter..still without electric... I should get one I'm using a regular lantern..tricked it on top of the glass
Excellent ! Great having dual purpose items: light, heat and means to cook meal
Thank you
Dietz and Feuerhand make quality products. Firefly Clean Fuel is also impressive, though the lanterns will burn just about any kind of oil, including Diesel. No alcohol or gasoline. Dietz also makes a jumbo sized lantern called the 2500 that will burn almost a week with the Firefly fuel, though they rate it for only 3 days with standard paraffin.
That is bad ass , it seams like an old miners lantern. Pretty cool you can cook on it .
great little review, my family has always used the Dietz lanterns, going way back, heck even during WWII the lanterns the troops used were generally Dietz at first but the gov't needed even more than they could make lol, and I agree, testing gear is a MUST, even stuff you have had for years,
Pirates vs. Taco truck....id watch that movie
I'm gonna have to add that to my collection! Very cool man!
First 15 seconds and I knew this was gonna be an entertaining vid
I am definitely getting1 of theses I'm all about multi purpose camping gadgets so this is a cool thing thanks for the video
Just looked in my Lehman's catalog I got last week.....This model is $29.99. And a 5-pack of extra wicks is $3.95. Not bad.
Wow! We're getting one!
My first Dietz lantern leaked like a sieve new out of the box, haven't tried one since. The new ones aren't quite as well made as they used to be. I love my Feurhand German made lantern. A definite step up.
Purchased two of these a few years back for me and my dad. It's stored for emergency situations. Thank you for doing a review on it, since I've never tested mine.
Thank you
1st, yes test your gear, test your gear, test your gear! 2nd a friend of mine has one and it has been nice to sit around when there is a burn ban in place. It's a slow paced hang out at camp boil. I'm thinking about picking one up to mess with myself.
not gonna lie...thats pretty damn kool!
Thank you
Looks like a great way to get extra protein as the light draws bugs into your food while you heat it up for 15 minutes.
Additional note... There are a lot of folks in Anchorage wish they had this right now. What a fantastic product!
Awesome
Dietz makes great stuff
Yeah they do
Genesis just one of the best bands up there with the Who, rolling stones, dire straits
I've looked at those. Dual purpose is always nice
that is a seriously cool looking lantern
Looks like a good duel purpose item thanks for showing. Thanks and take care
Cool! Thanks for sharing this product.
Nice. I bought one from amazon to Sweden. Great stuff 👍
I started off my collection with a Walmart hurricane lantern from the camping section, (you guys know the ones I'm talking about). After that I purchased a light blue Dietz Junior to compare the quality and man I got hooked hard. I even went back and purchased the Walmart version of the Dietz little wizard, the only difference is a smaller base. Now I'm ready to collect every Dietz I can get my hands on. Straight hooked on lanterns
I was going out this morning to get some lanterns and presto changeo you did this video for me thank you, blessings for you and your family.
Thank you brother God bless
Multi use gear is pretty sweet when it actually works!
Haha yeah that's the truth
I'm a little late getting to this, but I got it when I was supposed to, right on patriot brother.
thank you for the video. that's a pretty cool lantern
Dude, you read my mind.. I've been looking at the Walmart lanterns and thought they were junk/cheap/crap. I'll definitely check these out. Btw.. I like that your videos aren't edited. Makes it more real. Carry on!
Great video, great lantern. Have a great day and be safe brother.
You have a great night
That's a awesome piece of kit brother! thanks for sharing.
Thank you brother
How cool I just bought one last week!!!! Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you
Thank you! I ordered 2 of these. Already have 15 old time oil lamps.
I bought this thing based on your review. Thanks man, I think I'm gonna like this. I'm subscribing.
Glad you didn't post that Forrest gump comment.
Like it, light, heater and cooker all in one. Thanks SSBA, Semper Fi.👍❤️🇺🇸🌈🦄⚔
🌈🦄❤⚔🐩🦖🇺🇸
cool idea for the lantern, since it's going to give off heat anyways why not use to heat something, thanks for sharing and at the start that penetrating eye of Rex he's got the look
Trex on the move
Thank you for sharing; your vids are always insightful , informative and fun to watch. Cool lantern...
Thank Danny
I like it! I've seen something like around over the years but they looked so cheap. But this one doesn't look cheap. Might have to give it a try.
I have this and think it’s pretty cool. It’s my last resort cooking device
Thank you for the link. I book marked it for later purchase. Nice addition to my preparedness stuff!!
Thank you
I will have to get one of those lanterns for the camper .
There is a hardware store in Kidron, Ohio by the name of Lehman's. If you ever make it this far north. MAKE sure you stop by an look them over. An plan on spending time there. Greatest non electric store ever!
I'd be happy to
I was there this past weekend and spent 2.5 hours wandering around! Totally enjoyable! Bought this lantern there too for 19.99!
Lol! Flaming cats shooting our of trees! Great stuff, brother. I love it. That lantern is pretty. I really like that color. I don't have that model of lantern....yet. I almost got one last year, but didn't. That set-up is boss. Kept waiting for you to say 'dip your wick' while you filling the lantern. Really cool video. Thanks!
Thank you brother had to have flaming cats lol
It is a good idea to test your gear before you go on a trip " even in your local park" before it fails on you in the rain or snow or the mountains. I have heard people say it failed on me when I was testing it in the hills.? I really like this Lantern cooker great idea thanks for the review God bless you.
It's a good little cooking device for a power outage
I was thinking about getting one of these. It looks interesting. Light the lamp, set up camp, boiled water will then be done.
Excellent video. 👍👍😎
Thank you
Based on your video, I just ordered this from Amazon. It's due to arrive 12/6ish. Will try it out and let you know. God only knows the price is right!
Nice thing to have !! Thanks Ssgt 👍
Looks like a pretty good lantern! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you @bigrededc
The Starbuck's instant coffee packets are surprisingly good.
Awesome gadget and of course your presentation
Thank you
beautiful
Thank you
Thumbs up if for nothing else but the dinosaur. Great intro.
Good stuff as usual. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!
Thank you brother
Man I love it ... putting it on my list for Santa lol God bless thanks for the cool video brother
God bless
My video on the $10 stainless steel kids play set of cookware would work absolutely perfect with that thing!
It would sounds like an update video you might be able to convert a Coleman lantern into a cooker
@@StepOneSurvival that's actually great idea. Even an adustible mod that you can make work with any lantern? I might mess around with that idea myself.
now THAT is a lamp.. great one ..
Novice idea...good for camping solo😊
Don’t forget about sharknados, zombies and chupacabra showing up after the transformers explode when Nibiru comes back! Lol. I’ve used my old Bluet lantern to cook meals on winter trips, because it really puts out heat. Never forget to test out your gear every now and then. It’s a lesson I’ve had to relearn a few times. Carry on!
The good thing about this is you can use it inside!
I would love to see an illustrated drawing of that whole blizzard, flaming tree jumping cat, pirate ship taco truck cannon fire. Get the kids to draw it and have sippycup try and figure out what's happening
I just discovered your channel and I love it. You are so funny and I loved your Sunny reference.
Thank you
What a wonderful product... Just the thing I was looking for to glow my tarp, and make a mug of coffee... Will have to se if my Toaks 500ml fits there....
Good solid lamps, it's usually worth it in the long run to pay a little more more a quality item.
In a bad situation I'd hate to see it leaking
I put a whole can of Dinty Moore beef stew on this upside down for 15 min, flip it right side up for another 10 min, and its ready to eat, right out of the can ! No dirty dishes!
Pretty cool gear BA. Thx for the review. T
I’m a collector and have several oil lamps but not one of these….yet. In a pinch I could see someone heating up some food or making a coffee on this lantern but there are several more efficient stoves to do this on. So is there a place in camping or prepping for this lantern ? I would argue yes there is. Imagine your out fishing with family or friends and your task is to cook up some food for a few people. You may need a place to keep some food warm while cooking up something else on your main stove. Or keeping food warm until you or friend/ family is ready to eat.
Never heard of that lantern. Looks nice. I still have two Coleman’s from my childhood (one late 60s and one from 70s).
Coleman works good
If you are heating water, you should always have the lid on, to keep heat from escaping. There was another survival channel that claimed it could not bring water boil, despite trying for almost an hour. But, the dolt was using a huge meat thermometer to measure water temperature, so the lid was nowhere near sealing.
that is a good idea, idea for fishing for a day or 2,
I bought that exact lantern before hurricane Florence. I thought the pan that came with it was dinky though. I bought 2 stainless steel camping cups from Wal-mart for the top of it.
I have three of the Wally World lanterns and all three leaked. I'm buying a few of these! Thanks for the review!
Thank you
I see the wally world ones being more of a decorative accent not an actual tool
I like that. Super handy in a camp. ATB
A lantern and a stove. Sweet
staff/sgt b.a. i always liked the dietz lantern its very useful . my philosophy is not to put a price on quality nor comfort when i make purchases . thank you sir
Definitely worth checking in to, Think I will. Thanks.!
Thank you
Ssgt BA, thanks for sharing, another tool for preparing for " just in case "
Thank you
In India, specially in the state of West Bengal and North Eastern states , we always keep this kind of lanterns for emergency purpose. Heat and light baby. And they're cheap.. fuel, no problem.
Yeah, I'm going to have go get me one of those SStg BA.
Wow😍
The key to ant Deitz lantern is to "trim the wick".
That is a sexy cooking pot
This would be great for ice fishing. It gets dark out early and you need a light source besides the fact that some hot food is so nice to have when you're standing on a frozen lake.
There's a idea
A paint can lid, or a tin can lid should fit the wire pot stand so it can catch soot instead of the pot. :)
The disinfection of water reference boiling it is at sea level only , as you go up the mountain air pressure reduces the temperature at which water boils.
Nice
Omg flaming cats and taco trucks then pirates Lmfaooo.... Well shit I wish I'd seen this before buying the propane one... Added to my list though can't hurt to have varying light, cooking, and heat sources
Good stuff BA, thank you.....I was wondering how long it would take to boil, and that’s inside, under adverse conditions probably not so good. But a great prep item to have around the house as a back up✌🏻✌🏻
missed this one but buying two so find this
Hard to "cook" with these(warming lantern printed on the box) multi use item provides light, a warm yellowish glow, warms your beverage or snack and in a pinch thrown hard enough make a diy molotov. Doesn't give off as much area light as modern LED lights but I prefer the warm soft light it provides. Thanks BA for reminding me of these.
To sterilise water by boiling, you should boil it for 7 minutes at sea level, and add one minute, for each 1,000 feet of elevation.
Winged wheel made some good quality hurricane lamps too. They can be found on ebay and usually for less than a complete Dietz. Mine gets at least 10 hours out of one filling and the metal glass guards are very sturdy. Not sure about cooking with them.
WHO EVER GAVE YOU THE INTEL ON THIS IS ON POINT & THSNK YOU.
BA THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING BA. AS FOR US
HELLO AMAZON US RUSH SHIP THIS.
HAY BA JUST ORDERED IT AND A HARD CASE ALSO. THANK YOU. AND THEM LOL
Cool idea! My only issue is that I've got several of the folding mini stove deals, a few of the wire grill things, and some of the hanging hook deals for cooking.
Also, I've got several good lanterns. Propane, oil, battery/solar... Sadly I would only be spending more money for something I wouldn't really need.
Yeah I heard that I don't really have anything like this thought it would be great in a power outage then I don't have to dig out all my big stuff for cooking if this is sitting out.
@@StepOneSurvival true. If ya have a regular lantern, ya can't cook on top of the glass chimney..
I got mine at Red Hill General Store. If you're ever up this way BA you can check this store out. Lots of old fashion food preservation equipment and other old fashioned gear. They also have an online store.
That's awesome
you can use a larger pan/pot, Ive cooked over regular glass chimney oil lamps using a tripod system, its not the fastest way to cook though.. its probably better to fill that small pot with sand and fuel, and kit it to cook over
Smashes like!
Got A Dietz lantern almost new at a yard sale. Also some Polish ones that i have not tried yet. Kerosene is a horrible price up here. Thank you for the review, BA
