Thanks for Watching! I think they are usually 1095 or the lesser 10xx series steels. It helps to break a small piece off. The newer files are case hardened, and they will have a really coarse looking grain on the inside..
Nice work, I’d be interested in you making a German jaeger hunting sword. (Sort sword) 18th century style. By research you will find they are about the same size and length as the sword you made here. I suspect it would be fantastic
