    Not to be that guy, but... Since the one barrier said "summon and encounter an ally" and not "draw a new ally", you needed to make a Diplomacy/Charisma 12 check to put the Djinn in your hand.
    I don't get the beef about the game being all about rolling dice. How is that different from the Pathfinder RPG it is trying to emulate? "I check that pile of rags over there." "Roll a Perception Check." "I attack that skeleton". "Roll your combat check." I look at it like just removing the middle man GM. :)

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 5 lety +3

      Darn, you’re right! What an ungrateful genie. I use my precious healing potion to save him and he still might ditch me!?
      What sometimes bothers me about the dice, comparing it to a d20 RPG like D&D or Pathfinder, is how long it can take to determine and total up dice pools. Regular Pathfinder just had a d20 roll with modifiers for basically everything except damage. Here, doing a basic action with some bonuses might need 4 different dice types. That can be fun and exciting, but can also feel more repetitive and fiddly.

    I liked that you discussed using short locations to speed up the game. I see you're using hourglass with 21 cards. The guide suggests for a fast paced game that has a similar level of challenge to Normal mode, combine small locations with an hourglass with 12 blessings plus 2 additional blessings per character. So with 2 characters the hourglass would have 16 blessing. I wonder if the game is too easy with 21 blessings.

    Hey man! Love the coverage! Just wanted to point out @ 22:30 when you start the healing process using Revitalize, I believe you're supposed to randomly choose a card from discard when you heal 1 card to Seelah. Pg 9 of the rule book "Rules:Healing" states that 'when a power heals you, shuffle the specified number (and, if specified, type) of random card from your discards into your deck'.

  • @TheDragonScholar
    @TheDragonScholar Před 5 lety +1

    I'm really glad they switched to suits of armor being displayed. Armor-heavy characters can be a drag near the beginnings of the pre-Core campaigns. I also like the greater emphasis on being able to affect other characters' checks with character powers and boons other than blessings.
    By default, I think when a power tells you to do something with "a card" it has to come from your hand, so Seelah can't use displayed armors for her power.
    Healed cards are supposed to be random; you don't get to pick the exact ones. Although that would be pretty nice! :)

    • @andrethannhauser6302
      @andrethannhauser6302 Před 4 lety +2

      @@OneStopCoopShop Honestly, I don't get why so many people claim the new cards to look much better. I find them worse, for the same reason I find the thunderstone quest cards worse than thunderstone advance.
      it's because I really like that minimalistic generic look of the old cards. Well, to me it's not even old as just yesterday I finished the 5th chapter of pathfinder skull & shackles...so just one more to go to finish that box.
      The old cards create a much deeper atmosphere while the new ones look "over-coloured", most views just zoomed in (why just see the heads of so many heroes and monsters?!?!) and half of the card space is wasted by background which just distracts from what the card really shows. Looks more like a "colour-blocking" design-style for "not yet grown-ups". ;-)
      e.g. during your video, I had a hard time to follow some of the card types...while in the older edition that would hardly be the case.
      If it's just about card design, then the game definetely is a pass.
      When it comes to a better story-driven campaign, then I can use the great documents on BGG...so it's not official but because of that the new edition doesnt have an advantage to really count as such.
      So to me it's just about few improved rules like:
      - the way armour works
      - scaling of locations to have a short, medium or long game
      Unfortunately, two of my favourite cards games (Pathfinder and Thunderstone) got new editions which I dont buy because of the design although there are definetely rule improvements. :-(

      That was my exact feeling when I played 1st edition. Honestly it felt like a horribly and lazily designed game. Like the developers were like; put some art on a card and say 2d6+1+might+x. Instant kill. Then feel free to use the card 100 more times if you are the warrior.
      Too many times you are allowed to role several dice, with zero trade consequences. Easiest and least challenging game I ever played. No idea why everyone enjoys it. You are rolling 3 d8 dice and adding five to just pass a 15 and you get to put the cards back in your deck. Where's the challenge?
      Was hoping to see more improvements with the 2nd edition

    The characters in the old version were actually getting old and therefor the buisness model of the publisher was that you will buy more content and characters and many abandoned this game due that reason.

    So I’m assuming no dungeon/game master is needed? Just want a game where the character improves over time vs resetting every time.

      So to answer you first question, it's a pretty straightforward game to play, BUT they went overboard trying to make the rulebook really detailed, so it's harder to get through than it should be.
      And you are correct, it's not really an RPG, just a card game with RPG elements, so you don't need a DM or anything.
      And the edition you want (in my opinion) is the one I feature here, the "Core Set". Older editions are out there, but I think this version has the cleanest rules and the best content for your money.

      There is the core game, and one expansion "Curse of the Crimson Throne".

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Před 4 lety

      If I'm understanding the question correctly, usually you are limited to one card of each type in a check, from all players combined. So if I have a weapon I can play on you, you can't also play a weapon on that check.
