Canon has just announced their latest RF-mount cinema camera: the EOS C400. This camera features a 6K Full Frame image sensor, it can record in Cinema RAW Light at up to 6K/60P onto CFexpress memory cards, it has a new 3.5" full touchscreen LCD monitor, HDMI and SDI output ports, and much more. So, let's take a closer look at it!

Reading these comments is hilarious. What a bunch of negative, over-reactive, over-privileged whiners. Every time a camera manufacturer releases a new camera, it's the same nonsense. We live in amazing times with amazing options for all kinds of shooters. There is no such thing as a perfect camera for every shooter in every situation. Maybe some of you folks should take a breath and consider that this camera isn't targeted at you and that your needs are not the centre of the universe. Not all that long ago, images like the kind this camera and many others could capture were completely inaccessible to most.

Am I the only one who wants a viewfinder on the C400?
You can't even use the OLED EVF of the C500 II as an addon.
It looks like the BM EVF should work with it as its USB-C
So we still have to mount an extra Atomos to record in ProRes. I'm wondering if we can use the USB C connector for that? (The Panasonic s5 ii allows recording straight out of the usb C bus).

If you want cameras to have ProRes, expect to pay extra for it, because Apple doesn't give it away for free.

Hope we see a lab test of dynamic range from you guys soon. I‘m thrilled what you find out. When Canon says it‘s their best fullframe cinema sensor yet it should be at least on par with C500 mkii, rather even better than it. 🤔

What‘s a bit weird is that you rated the C500 mkii with 13.1 stops and C300mkiii/C70 with 12.9 stops.
Now Canon says the C400 is their highest DR fullframe cinema sensor to date.
According to this it should be the best of all of them.

Nice camera. Should be released 2 years ago. Wonder how are the lowlight capabilities?
Lowlight on c300 and c70 is really good, so probably no issues here either.
@@itsjantore - on R5C lowlight is not so good. Burning highlight or noise in the shadows

HUH are you trolling? 12800 is the 3rd native in clog... it has an excellent pixel pitch. Its likely the BEST low light Canon given the c70s chip is smaller.
Is the dynamic range worse or better than C300ii/C70? I’m hearing conflicting things on this.
We will see once we get our hands on a production version and put it through its paces in the CineD Lab Tests.
Acording to CVP it is slightly worse, but on par to sony fx 6 and fx9

I ask about this and the answer is no unfortunately for the C400.
@@grahamesheldon1487 Thanks, just have to ask and hope they notice people asking for it! I've seen some specs saying it is a 3:2 sensor, so hopefully not completely imposible and it's a great feature these days for anamorphic and multi-aspect ratio delivery for socials. Cant believe Sony and Canon are sleeping on it in most of their cameras.

@@ShaneVanLitzIt isn’t a 3:2 sensor. Just about the aspect of the C70 but in full frame.

hey, CineD, the reason for it being between the C500 and C300 is simple, like in photography, the number 6 is a bit superstitious, aka like the D6, F6 the LAST of the line, a jinx if you will, so makers avoid it, at all costs.
Why no DGO ? It's an FX6 competitor which is 4 years old. Why less DR than the C70 ? Other than that it's perfect, but it's a freakin bummer !
As a C70 owner I'm not impressed...
funny how excited he talks about "base iso" workflow.. Like canon did something new there. I shot every other day with an FX6... sooo CineEI at 6400 with Base Iso at 12800 gives me that exact result.

As a C300ii owner I can’t believe they maintained the same design.
Love the image but gosh it’s just a blah looking camera line across the board.
Where is the Canon tax we have been seeing all these years? Sony FX6 sales have been hurting Canon badly.

@@CineD Since there is a dedicated 3G SDI monitor output on the C400, this would probably be the EVF connection to go. So you can have the monitor and the EVF.
Should be 8k and variable ND with 32 bit float audio.

Really? Outside of docs, I don't see anyone caring about recording in-camera audio, and this really isn't a doc cam.
@@conflictfree88 well it can still be used as a doc cam, but like you said i don't see anyone in the field really caring about those things. Most people in the field (that i've talked to) are actually pretty pumped for this camera.

So nobody who’s got even an FX6 would bother with the camera or even a Panasonic s5iix. The lumix has open gate, built in anamorphic de squeeze, better colour science, better autofocus, is lighter the only downside is it doesn’t have built in Variable nd oh and it’s £6000 cheaper with a lens included!. Hell nobody with an FX3 would even brother considering this camera!.
People bang on about canon autofocus, just check out videos of people who’ve used the R5 etc and they’ll be going nuts about how bad the autofocus is!.
So yea this camera is out of date already. Sony will release the fx6 m2 that’ll put this c400 instantly in a coffin.
It's built for live productions in ways that the FX6 won't touch and the S5 couldn't imagine - that's where it's gonna find its home. Besides, it won't have the shit scroll wheel that the FX6 has.
I see a lot of AV shops loading up on these guys
He isn’t talking about the fx6 he is saying once the fx6 Mk2 comes out which will most likely address all the issues the mk1 had will put this camera already out of date seeing as the fx6 is an already amazing and popular camera. They needed to release this awhile ago, the fx6 Mk2 and fx9 Mk2 are most likely a year or so out and I bet they put global shutters in both of them like the A9
@@conflictfree88 the s5iix has very in-depth capable live broadcast capabilities too and the new black magic cameras absolutely kill this canon camera in terms of live streaming and live broadcast. Take the news stringers in America they all use black magic cameras, and I don’t see any of them changing from those to any canon camera. Even though the black magic cameras they’re using are a few years old!. Really this canon camera can’t do anything more than the s5iix can do!. Plus canon dual pixel autofocus is terrible, it hunts, doesn’t pick up people or animals properly snd is terrible in low light!.
If you're looking forward to successors to the FX6 and FX9, you should take a look at the Burano. They have already completed the development of the next sensor and will not include features beyond those found in the Burano. This is something that users waiting for a Mark II version of the FX series are reluctantly ignoring and refusing to acknowledge. oh If you’re wondering what they’re refusing to acknowledge, just consider the current reviews of the Burano.
And now we have to buy all new batteries, screw you Canon
