- Ahhhh Alaska! This is my happy place! Alaska is so beautiful, I never get tired of coming here! On this cruise, we only have one stop in Alaska and we are going to make the best of it. The last time we were here, we went fishing... so guess what we are doing this time! Yep... fishing! But this time for halibut! We booked the excursion through NCL and it is called 'Halibut fishing' for those of you who may be wondering.
First up, we are transported from Ward's Cove (Norwegians' port) to downtown Ketchikan to meet our fishing captain and get licensed for our fishing expedition. What's great about these trips is that they are small boats with no more than 6 passengers. So you are getting an authentic experience with a guide who knows the native waters and where the fish are.
Well, do we catch any halibut? Maybe... but we definitely caught rockfish! And we saw whales!! This was a bonus as this was not a whale watching tour! But we saw a HUGE pod of orcas (killer whales) which was AMAZING! There were about 20 whales all around us. We stopped the boat and killed the engine just to watch and one came up right next to us! Whoaa! We also saw several humpback whales.
It was an epic day and the scenery just made it even better! The snow-capped mountains, the wildlife... Alaska is beautiful.
Back onboard the Norwegian Jewel, we had a delicious dinner at Teppanyaki! This is our favorite specialty dining restaurant on any ship as it is consistently good... and you get so much great food!

What is your favorite excursion in Alaska??
Helicopter glacier with dog sled! or ketchikan.. the lumber jack show is fun with kids :)
When we lived in Anchorage, we loved 49th State Brewing Company-the original location is right outside Denali. Alisa, Moose’s Tooth Pizza is the BEST! (The other location is called Bear Tooth, same pizza and beer, but usually less busy.) Silver Gulch, the Salmon Bake, and Chowder House are great in Fairbanks. North Pole has a great Thai restaurant right by Santa Claus House.
If you have time, Riverboat Discovery is really fun in Fairbanks.
I like those Mountains.
Whale watching!
Whale watching, duck boat, and 6 seater plane over Fjords.
What a magical moment for you to see wild orcas!
Teppanyaki is ALWAYS good like you said, very consistent. Its also fun!!!
I loved Ketchikan. Loved the old town.
Ketchikan is my FAVORITE port - hands down - of all the Alaska stops. I love that your Pacific Coastal trip added Ketchikan to the mix. I'm going to have to look for an itinerary like this during the next repositioning seasons.
Do it! It has been one of our favorite cruises.
Thanks for sharing this video with us. We also love Alaska!🥰🛳️⚓️🦩😎💕
Awesome Orca Sightings!!❤
I've been on a Mini Cruise to Alaska a few years ago, but this August I'm going for 10 days on Princess and I'm beyond excited. 🛳🛳🛳🛳🐳🐳🐳
Loved watching the whales and you fishing😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Headed to Alaska in July. Might try the fishing Excursion super excited!
Thank you for sharing your Alaska experience I need to get there hopefully next year we shall see🎉🎉
Thanks for making this video! I'm going there this Summer. I loved meeting and talking to you guys on the Vlogger Extravaganza Cruise. ❤
Great video ❤❤❤❤
I'm with you! I could sail there every summer!
Loved your video. Hope to go to Alaska one of these days😂
What happens to the fish? Catch & release, Shore lunch, bring back to the ship for kitchen to cook for you, freeze and ship home? This could be a big deal, especially if someone catches the elusive "monster" halibut.
We've cruises to Alaska 4 times and we will be there again next year 👍
2 1/2 weeks until we fly to Anchorage for our 2 week land/sea princess itinerary. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing.
Oh amd our favorite excursion were the speed boat ride and river rafting! Both super exciting!!!
Loved this! I want to go to Alaska so bad. :)
hi...Just got back from 11 days in Alaska. Alaska is beautiful and the weather was perfect --60's each day. I hope you get there some day.
I loved Ketchikan
Him guys!! Next time, Jack & I will take you halibut fishing!
Sounds like a plan!!
Dang!!! Well be in CT 6/1 to 6/15.
Mrs. EECC Travels, your hair looks GREAT at this length.
Hope we get to see an updated Vancouver video from you guys!! We leave next tuesday for a celebrity northbound cruise ☺️
We didn’t stay in Vancouver this time, we flew straight home.
There was no guarantee you'd catch a fish. Nothing said about seeing Orcas. Alaska as beautiful as it is with or without the sun, this looked very inviting.
I really like your other fishing excursion in Ketchikan. The one where they cooked and served the fish you caught. Can you give us the prices on these fishing excursions? Would it be less expensive to find a boat on your own rather than through the cruise line?
I liked that one too!! If we would have caught halibut it would have been processed and shipped home which would have been awesome!! They range in price from $250-$450 per person. But so worth it!! I don’t think it would be less on your own and these are very long excursions so best for time reasons through the cruise line. We just made it back in time in this one.
if you liked them you should do a princess cruise and go to all of them, they stop and 3 different ones and Glaser Bay. and then you would love Victoria Canada. we flew out of Seattle.
thank you for all your videos and recommendations, my wife and i are thinking about an Alaska cruise, any particular time that you think is better between May and September? Cruise line or route recommendation?
What happened to the fish you caught?? Awesome video. Thanks!
If we would have caught halibut we could have had it processed and shipped to our house. The rockfish were released.
Those fish look scary….like Tom Hanks on Joe vs the Volcano!!
@EECC, question for you, We have multiple cabins of people going on the Bill next June, How do we go about getting everyone on our own excursion for this one? or is that not an option?
I was on the Bliss last week and would never recommend NCL for alaska. Hour long shuttle lines back to Ward Cove, 45 minute shuttle lines to the AJ dock in Juneau. And ridiculously short time in ports (4 hours in most). Worth looking at Princess or HAL for full Alaska trips.
I keep seeing this but NCL is the best for solo travelers. I'm a little torn on if I should just spring for booking the whole double occupancy room on another shot
I was also a solo. Originally booked a solo, but they were priced so high it was only $30 more to move to a standard ocean view with a solo supplement. In hindsight probably could have saved a ton on the other lines!
That's why we booked a haven suite.. first time and a bucket list trip.
We'll get the priority treatment and hopefully get more time to do things on shore.
If fishing was a sure thing, it would be called ‘catching’. 🐟
My dad would always say..."Why are we going fishing? Just for the Halibut!" lol That never gets old! I miss him. Were you guys scared at all about the orcas by the boat? Or did the orca attacks on the sailboats happen after this? So amazing nonetheless!!!!
We were just so in awe and excited to see them!!
I want to know what happened to the fish, too. Catch and release? Lunch?
Do they charge for the rubber boot and jacket?
Didn’t you get licensed the last time you were there (feels like not that long ago?), Is the license just for that one day?
They issue one day licenses.
If you catch a fish, who cleans it and will NCL cook it?
Where did you sail out of?
This was a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver. NCL Jewel is now sailing from Vancouver to Alaska.
Another blogger mentioned the fire was caused by someone smoking on their balcony? What are your thoughts?
I hadn’t heard about a fire…
This would have been a great time to mount your 360 X3 on a pole and clap it on the boat.. with permission of course :)
is there a bathroom on the boat? Just asking....
Yes… a porta potty for emergencies…
my favorite part was 8:16 *.- :P
🤩🛳️💙
I just got back from Alaska on the NCL Sun. I enjoyed the review of Ketchikan but disagree with the review of the restaurant. I am not a fan of Teppanyaki - too noisy for me and the food is mediocre.
We have always had great food experiences at Teppanyaki… but I agree, it is loud.
@@EECCTravels forgot to mention...I had a Duck Fart at the RedDog Saloon!
Yall used to be more fun...used to have fun attitudes..now just boring...not upbeat no more
My home is Ward cove Alaska where your ship docked .. I have a beautiful 3bd home for sale $520k in mud bight just 2 miles from here !!
