Ty for enjoying it, even tho it's extremely patchy. I haven't been able to dye over it since my accident but I'm still going to attempt another purple.
Have had a lot of customers in the store get moody because we refuse to sell tiny hamster cages (Watched Victoria Raechel's vid abt good sized cages to sell, we took them in and dropped the tiny onens). yikes :I We also recommend the DIY cages (Ikea is very close by) and a lot have upgraded cages for their hamsters or gotten big ones for their new hamster buddy. I know we don't do well having hamsters from the mills, but we do our best to assure every animal is having the best life possible c:
That's honestly pissing me of even more than companies making shitty cages is people demanding tiny cages when they are not sold one so they can abuse hamsters. Anyone who gets a pet should be educated, that's general knowledge even a small kid should know.
Try to encourage them by bringing up how little cleaning you have to do with big enclosures ^^ Many people think small enclosures are much 'easier' to clean (just dump out all the bedding) so that makes them seem attractive to an average lazy pet owner. When, in reality, it's the exact opposite! Large cages only require you to spot-clean and, very infrequently, deep clean. Much less maintenance in general than small cages, which are usually made of plastic, so parts break and need to be replaced, they get scratched, stink to high heaven if u don't fully clean them out every week, and get pee stains all over.
@@teijaflink2226 It's surprisingly few that actually research about the animal they plan on getting. We have all sorts of people walk in and ask the most obvious questions there is, even about dogs, cats and so on. It's rather sad though that people expect hamsters to live in teeny tiny cages barely the size of a shoe box and expect them to have a good life? like woah! The store is a part of a chain but they are all individually owned, so we're free to chose what we want to sell etc. So been very lucky w that

I live in Canada and these new full cheeks cages are SO CRAZY above my budget. This one is I think $240, whereas you could go to the aquarium department and buy a 40 gallon tank for $140.
My Syrian hamster Hershey lives in the 200 quart clear bin bought at Home Depot for less than $40. Hershey shows no signs of stress, during these hot August days I have seen him sleep outside his hide, most likely enjoying the breeze from the ceiling fan although I have central air conditioning...
@@angelinademalia Yeah, glass cages can be really expensive. Petco does have some big sales on tanks usually once a year though. Bin cages or custom made plexiglass cages are more cost effective.
What I don't understand about these companies is why they don't hire people with actual small pet experience when designing these cages. They would make so much more money and save themselves such bad reviews all the time that are well deserved because they literally don't seem to be using real life knowledge and experience in their designs.
They ask a Chinese company to design a cheap enclosure using cheap materials. Lately they have been inundated with requests for larger cages, but they are still falling short 20 to 30 square inches. They would be better off selling 110 quart and larger plastic bins with proper air ventilation of the lid for twice the price Walmart does. We are no longer living in a world without the internet that we were thirty years ago...
They would lose money bc people don’t want a large cage making their living space looking cluttered 🙄 And the bigger the cage, the bigger the expense. That’s their thinking. They only care about profit.
And lately California Hamster Association has raised the minimum size to 600 square inches, leaving the Sterilite 200 quart bin as the only large bin sold year round that can meet that minimum, although the large Christmas tree bin does as well, but its sold usually only during the holiday season.... I have seen the minimum rise from 144 square inches to 360 square inches to 450 square inches and now up to 600 square inches... Pet stores are still attempting to sell toy cages that maybe meet the ancient minimum of 144 square inches... A shoebox!
This is almost extra disappointing, because in some ways, yeah, it's better than what they used to offer. It's way closer to the 450 min than other cages they sell. The pan depth is decent! Personally I prefer more than 7" of bedding but that's way better than a lot of other bad cages and certainly above the suggested 5-6". They could have made it a bit bigger, adjusted the ledge so you could put a full-size wheel on it, and used better building materials, and then I think it would be a half-decent cage (albeit very expensive, and definitely smaller than what we should be aiming for. But at least it wouldn't be straight-up inappropriate). And the way they advertise the square inches feels shady to me. I wonder if they're including the base and the ledge separately (which, for those who are unaware is NOT how you measure an enclosure). I feel like they know we're all squawking about the 450 minimum so they're like "Look! Ours is bigger!" when in reality they know it's not.
Thank you so much you are the reason I moved my hamster from a critter trail cage to a 40 gallon tank he has since lived a good life before he passed three years later

$200? I paid $230 for my Niteangel Bigger World, which is 930 sq. in., 47" long, 19"wide and 24" high. This cage is insanely priced for how TINY it is!
You should do an updated video on this cage cause they did some small fixes to this cage and it’s a lot better and nicer, I got it about a week ago and I have no problems with it, they updated it, mine is 596 sq inches so it’s a lot bigger than what it was before, they reinforced the wiring to hold it in place better, I’ve gone through about 7 different cages and by far this is the best cage I’ve gotten, also you were suppose to snap the ramp into place, it’s a little finicky at first to snap in but once it’s in, it’s not going anywhere, only thing is that it no longer comes with the bag of food cause it got recalled but PetSmart was nice enough to give me a different more expensive nicer bag of food, don’t think I’ll use it tho cause I already have a really nice bag of food cause I’m not a fan of just the pellets, I like to get the variety food with the different seeds fruits and veggies, but overall I like the new updated cage, I highly recommend you trying to find it and do a review, I’ve heard it hard to find the newer cage but it’s worth it to me, I never heard my hamster squeak before but when I put her in the new cage she was just loving it, it does take up a lot of space but I think for anyone that has a Syrian or regular size hamster it would be a perfect fit, if you have a dwarf hamster I do not recommend because since the base bin is not connect to the wiring, they might be able to squeeze there way out between the little gap but if you have a regular size hamster I think it works just fine, idk I like your reviews but your review on this cage felt slightly biased, I would try finding the 596 sq inch version cause it’s a lot better and had more attention to detail
I know that this is way off topic but, do you ever get African Soft Fur Rats at your rescue? I have two females. I was sad to hear that they are always bred strictly for feeding to snakes and other reptiles. There have been several for sell as feeders on the Spokane Craigslist. They are just as smart as fancy rats but no one that I have ever seen keeps these beautiful rats as pets. No one is talking about them. They have no one to speak for them. I didn't know if you knew anything about them or have rescued them.
I know, but sometimes rescues take in animals they do not normally take in often. It is sad that no one seems to care about African Soft Fur Rats at all.
My hamster has the English version I got second hand and I must say it is bigger then the American version, I know it’s not the best care but it is just a starter cage I’m hoping to upgrade soon
The fact that this costs $200 is insane. My hamster's IKEA detolf + raised lid cost us £130/$170 - there's absolutely nothing in that little plastic prison that makes it worth $200 lol.
Hello munchies I am glad I found your CZcams channel cause when I had my hamster I had good care.for him thanks to you he lived a happy life when he was alive :)
a cage like that in a pinch would be doable if it had more security features and was more sturdy MAYBE but not as a perminant housing, Thats the size i would use if transporting the hamster to the vet.
That price is ridiculous. That’s roughly £150, I have Degus and spent under £140 on a 2 tier all metal cage with ramps and shelving included with enough room for an 11 inch wheel on each level and extra wooden shelving. Plus storage underneath! I don’t see why smaller rodents get these puny cages that could just fit a flea inside, which break within a few months.
So I made the mistake of getting one of those for my dwarf hamster. It was on sale for $100 so I got it. After doing some research I realized it was too small. I got another one (also for $100) and attached both enclosures together. I know it probably isn't quite enough but I'm making the most of what I have. So far he seems to enjoy the space and I try to add as much enrichment and foraging as possible I can.
I bought the full cheeks aspen shavings bedding for the bottom lining of my cage before I put carefresh and it was SOOOO dusty! Never again! And my bag of carefresh had huge chunks of cotton in it at least half the bag was huge cotton chunks
I bought the full cheeks white paper bedding and there was blue plastic in it! Texted petsmart and they were responding until they just stopped on Friday:/
Ughh I feel you. I bought the new full cheeks paper bedding(not the paper crinkles but the paper chunk type bedding) and it sucks, the pieces are so hard. My hamster was sleeping under the wheel for a good 3 days after I deep cleaned and I was trying to figure out why and it’s because she can’t burrow at all in this! I mix all my bedding 50/50 with aspen, paper bedding and orchard grass and the last time it held her burrows just fine. I had to use more of her old paper crinkle bedding just so she could get a nest going in there. Also, that’s the reason I stopped using carefresh, so many cotton chunks and it acts up my asthma so bad, when I had it just putting new bedding in made me not be able to breathe so I ended up returning it.
@@meatballthehammy7410 i had problems with carefresh also a couple months ago. Been using it and it’s fine now. I have actually found cotton strings in it before like a year ago but now everything is fine with it. You sure your using the right brand? Crittercare is the one that does that.
I don't understand why anyone would buy this, if a wire cage is what you want just get a prevue 528 for $100 and the accessories for another $100 which would be the same price
I have the medium sized nite-angel cage, which is well over 450 sq inches, and it cost around the same price as this for 10x better quality. I don’t think All Living Thing’s rebrand really did anything, lol. They just chalked up the prices for a cage that was barely better than what they had. They still come with tiny wheels and bar cage toppers, so it’s honestly the same, just more expensive honestly.
I love your videos so much you help me with my care so muchhh I used to have a 10gallon tank now I have a 660 Square inches of floor space for my hamster tysmmmm
That drives me absolutely BANANAS that they are purposefully marketing it as 596 sq in, misleading consumers to think it’s above the minimum when it’s actually below the 450 min. Gah!!! And $200?? There are appropriate enclosures on the market for less money than that.
Bin cages are a much better option, they’re cheaper and easier to clean. It’s annoying how pet shops sell overly expensive small animal care that isn’t worth it.
We have a diy enclosure and it was like 160€ (170 USD) for everything, including enrichment, wheel, hides, platforms, sandbath and so on. Its 1,40m x 0,5m (1085sq inch). So you can really do something great for less money. 200 for a small plastic cage is ridiculous.
Ikea has some great products suitable for DIY cages. Personally I like the Platsa cabinet storage products, one of which comes in a few different sizes. Around 680 square inches, around 740 square inches, around 1500 square inches, and around 2200 square inches... Ikea even offers a glass shelf suitable for the front of the bin... Ikea retail price, $35 for the 80x55x40 cm around 680 square inches, the one I bought for my dwarf, plus the glass shelf... While you have to assemble the cabinet and maybe tap a hammer and tighten a screw or two, there is no need for any electric tools. However the glass shelf will need to be siliconed to the bin. I wish Munchie will review this DIY hamster enclosure, I am sure she would give it six stars. It literally almost slides together, nor is it heavy. I would buy the slightly larger one for a Syrian though at around 740 square inches with the same around 19 inch height... Ikea ROCKS! Ikea sells something easier to build DIY that fits properly for a third of the price of this piece of crap... This Ikea Platsa cabinet can handle ten inches of bedding easily unlike the Detolf... Your hamster will be in heaven with either the around 2200 square meter and around 1500 square meter ones... You will pay more for a Tiny Tots cage...
I wonder if there is a way to connect two together? I actually had these donated to me because I rescue hamsters from tiny cages and bad living conditions
Hammocks are great for those that have good climbing skills like mice/rats. Hamsters due to their nature to pouch materials into their cheek and take it back with them, may cause complications since they sometimes rip cloth to shreds. Especially syrians. However hammocks I wouldn't use as well for hamsters because they aren't nimble. Especially for dwarfs and we see them as fall hazards.
Hi Munchie, I can finally get a hamster and I have an old exo terra laying around and it's 90x45x45cm (i live in the Netherlands and we don't work with inches here ^^") is this okay for a dwarf? And what are the absolute nessesary things you need apart from.hides, chewtoys, waterbottle, food and a wheel? I always love your video's :) Love from The Netherlands
Hi, I'm assuming yours is 90 cm long and 45 wide, if this is the case you will be giving your hamster about 648 square inches of floor space which is above the minimum so yes that will be suitable (as long as you can put at least 5 inches of bedding in it) I would also say you would need a sand bath because dwarfs can use this to clean their coat, as an area to go to the bathroom, and as enrichment.
Well while I'm out in the cage is that is one step in the right direction but I want PetSmart to do the research and maybe in the future we'll have better cages
I would love to start my own small animal rescue, my area is really lacking for anything like it. I just wouldn’t know where to start. I just feel like I need to do something to help the poor animals I see being neglected :(
I doesn't fall very short of 450.. It's literally 20 off. That's barely short would be the correct way. Still to small but not by a lot but by a little.
I got this cage & its absolute garbage. Mine was on sale for $150 & it's still not even worth it. My base & top part did not line up either leaving gaps which makes me extremely nervous. And yes the bars are so flimsy also making me nervous. It was definitely an impulse buy and I regret it. My mistake. I'm trying to do better now so I bought the Niteangel cage as I prefer the aesthetics of natural set ups better anyway
Geez the price for that! I can got a bigger reptile enclosure for a for that price a bit more but much bigger for that! Eeeeh. Yeah not worth the price. Thank you very much for this review! Love your videos and awareness for small animal care!! Xoxoxoxox
We have a 198 l bin cage. It's big, we can see him and it's light enough I we have to move him. Oh my.. if it's $200 USD I don't even want to know what it would cost in Canada ekkkks
Pets smarts is going in the right direction like bigger cages but it's so far from being good like its still too small and the materials look crap and the wheel is to small and over priced and a bin cage is way better that this I even have a bin cage which is 460 or 470 ( planning to upgrade to the ikea detolf) and it's very cheap.
Hello my daughter just got a long hair hamster as a gift what is the best cage to buy? And from where I live in Toronto. Also what brand/type of wheel is best for hamster! Thank you
Yes? O.o Cause 22 goes into 484, 22 times. So 22 x 22.5 is 495. It may seem like it should be higher, but it's not. But 30 x 20 = 600 sq inches so that's what people should aim for when getting an enclosure as a starting place. The requirements are always being upgraded in America and other parts of the world due to manufacturers making enclosure types/sizes and pet laws.
Good god. For that kind of money you cold practically afford to go ahead and get a MUCH nicer, MUCH larger Niteangel Vista enclosure which is what I use.

My bag of carefresh is perfect and I’ll always use it. Try the seaside version!
@@meatballthehammy7410 i had problems with carefresh also a couple months ago. Been using it and it’s fine now. I have actually found cotton strings in it before like a year ago but now everything is fine with it. You sure your using the right brand? Crittercare is the one that does that.
Thank god I watched your video I was going to buy this Cage thank you for reviewing I will not be buying!
The best way to buy something for your pet is to ask yourself, “would you live here?” “Would you eat this” “would you drink this” yeah. That’s ugh
Those wires give me nightmares
I like the look of the Savic Geneva cage, but I wish it was bigger. Same with the gerbil version as well
That drives me absolutely BANANAS that they are purposefully marketing it as 596 sq in, misleading consumers to think it’s above the minimum when it’s actually below the 450 min. Gah!!! And $200?? There are appropriate enclosures on the market for less money than that.
Seeing these cages make me upset. All 4 of my hamsters are in an IKEA detolf (their own one of course!)
Theoretically because of how it was shelves, other of their products might be in better shape. Not that isn't small.
I am allergic to the pee from hamsters but I love them what should I do
if you know you want a hamster you could supply them with a lot of bedding and use gloves when cleaning their enclosure to limit your exposure to it
I wonder if there is a way to connect two together? I actually had these donated to me because I rescue hamsters from tiny cages and bad living conditions
cheaper to hit petco and get 40 Gallon aquarium at $100 75 at $210 or 55 or $150 dollars not on sale. bit more add top
Hi munchie! You probably won’t see this but I have a question, are hamster Hammocks safe? I’m thinking on getting one for my dwarf hamster
You remind me of my school counselor. Crazy, extro-extroverted, weirdly dyed hair, but the helpful, amazing, caring lovable munchie
Thank you so much for your review
Hi Munchie,
I can finally get a hamster and I have an old exo terra laying around and it's 90x45x45cm (i live in the Netherlands and we don't work with inches here ^^") is this okay for a dwarf? And what are the absolute nessesary things you need apart from.hides, chewtoys, waterbottle, food and a wheel?
I always love your video's :)
Love from The Netherlands
Hi, I'm assuming yours is 90 cm long and 45 wide, if this is the case you will be giving your hamster about 648 square inches of floor space which is above the minimum so yes that will be suitable (as long as you can put at least 5 inches of bedding in it) I would also say you would need a sand bath because dwarfs can use this to clean their coat, as an area to go to the bathroom, and as enrichment.
Is this a bad cage review?
YESSSS
Yes
Yes, this cage is too small
Beautiful
Well while I'm out in the cage is that is one step in the right direction but I want PetSmart to do the research and maybe in the future we'll have better cages
It’s more like the “Never start nightmare home”
I love your content!
200$!? i can get a bin cage for 30$!
Well at least they did better than their Tiny Jails line.... it still sucks, just not as badly.
I would love to start my own small animal rescue, my area is really lacking for anything like it. I just wouldn’t know where to start. I just feel like I need to do something to help the poor animals I see being neglected :(
God, I have a cage with around 800 square inches and it was like 60 euros .. like what? It makes no sense at all.
I didn’t realize you were located in Washington! What part are you in?
I got mine for 40 bucks last week 🤯
$200 for that?? I bought my Prevue 528 for around $70 and it is much better!
No, not for mine. He liked it for a while and got bored of the 528 preview and started bar chewing /:
I doesn't fall very short of 450.. It's literally 20 off. That's barely short would be the correct way. Still to small but not by a lot but by a little.
I would not house a hamster in this - even before your review! A rip off at $200.
Xoxoxoxox
If you measure the actual pan once is out i bet it will be less than 430inches.
Can you please suggest a great food for Syrians?
Omg I just got an ad for the new Harry Potter movie
We have a 198 l bin cage. It's big, we can see him and it's light enough I we have to move him. Oh my.. if it's $200 USD I don't even want to know what it would cost in Canada ekkkks
Love munchies videos but I'm here 40% to see her hair changes now 😅
Hi can you check out you&me hamster starter kit ?
200$??? Loool, that's crazy! Just...why??
would you clean it first before you throw your animal in it???
I can't believe there's even a discussion if that thing is "good", that's not even suboptimal, that's garbage
I've been looking at all different diy cages for a future hamster what do you think about the ikea plasta ?
Pets smarts is going in the right direction like bigger cages but it's so far from being good like its still too small and the materials look crap and the wheel is to small and over priced and a bin cage is way better that this I even have a bin cage which is 460 or 470 ( planning to upgrade to the ikea detolf) and it's very cheap.
I love your hair
Hello my daughter just got a long hair hamster as a gift what is the best cage to buy? And from where I live in Toronto. Also what brand/type of wheel is best for hamster! Thank you
Get a bin cage
For wheels I like my Exotic Nutrition silent runner, another option is the kaytee silent spinner which is easier to clean but less sturdy.
I was suckered in by the sales associate to believe I was making the right choice. Trusted them to much 😢
22 x 22.5= 495?????
Yes? O.o
Cause 22 goes into 484, 22 times.
