The Buick Wildcat is a full-size car that was produced by Buick from the 1963 to 1970 model years. Taking its name from a series of 1950s Buick concept cars,[1] the Wildcat replaced the Invicta within the "junior" B-body Buick sedan range. Serving as the higher-performance full-size Buick, the Wildcat was slotted between the LeSabre and the larger C-body Electra.
Following two generations of the model line, the Wildcat was replaced by the Buick Centurion for 1971. With the introduction of the personal luxury Buick Riviera sales of the Wildcat dropped, as Buick full-size lines shifted away from high performance and entirely towards medium-price luxury.
In 1966 a one-year-only Wildcat "Gran Sport Performance Group" package could be ordered by selecting the "A8/Y48" option. Two engine choices were available. The single carb 425 CID/340 hp V8 was included in the base package price with a 360 hp (268 kW) dual-carb set-up available at extra cost. Initially, this 20 hp (15 kW) upgrade remained a dealer-installed carb-intake modification bolted to stock MT-coded engines but eventually these "Super Wildcats" could also be obtained direct from the factory with MZ-coded engines. Rounding out both the base and Super GS packages were dual exhaust, heavy-duty suspension, posi-traction and updated rear quarter-panel "GS" badging in the new, initials-only format employed on all post-1965 Gran Sports. A total of 1,244 Wildcat GSs were built by Buick during the model year. Of those, 242 were convertibles and the rest were hardtops. A mere 22 (consisting of an unknown mix of both body styles) were Super Wildcats.[2]
A styling appearance cue was adopted from the popular 1963 Buick Riviera, where the beltline arched up over the rear wheels, a modification of an older styling element called the "Sweepspear," with later vehicles installing a rub strip along the entire side of the vehicle tapering down as it reached the rear bumper.
The year 1967 brought a new engine to the Wildcat line (along with the Riviera and Electra 225) - a 430-cubic-inch V8 with four-barrel carburetor and 360 hp (268 kW) rating that featured larger valves for better breathing than the previous 401/425 Nailhead design that dated back to Buick's first V8, in 1953. It had a 10.25:1 compression ratio and a four-barrel carburettor, with maximum power reached at 5000 rpm and 475 lb⋅ft (644 N⋅m) of torque at 3200 rpm - all SAE gross values. The 430 was relatively short-lived as it was only offered through the 1969 model year. For 1970, the 430 was superseded by the largest Buick V8 engine ever - a 455-cubic-inch engine that was basically a bored version of the previous engine with the same large-valve design, a horsepower rating of 370, and torque rating of more than 500 pounds.

1970, a guy in the neighborhood got out of the Army a few months before me. He only ate Army food and wore Army clothes, every penny he made went into savings. Then he paid cash for a NEW 1970 Buick Wildcat. Me? I ate candy, burgers and saw lots of movies. I got out with enough for a used 1950 Ford. Mister Wildcat gave me a few rides - didn't compare to my '50 Ford. Your take on this Wildcat is impressive. You use so little, by way of expensive model stuff, yet your kits are amazing. Thanks for sharing...

I just started this kit. I cut the hood open. And got a firewall from the 1966 wildcat and will use its engine too. Very beautiful. Not a curbside anymore. Gonna put a white vinyl roof on it. Might paint body white or light yellow. Loving it.

~everytime I hear Wildcat it reminds me of part of a song in Jimi Hendrix All Along the Watchtower~
Oh, outside in the cold distance
    A "wildcat" did growl
    Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl
    Hey

You know , I understand that its important for some to have an engine in their models. But I have built models for years and the hood goes on, it goes on a shelf and the engine never gets seen again. I guess at 66 years old I'm more interested in simplicity and I think this is a great alternative for shelf queens. 😀 Great build👍👍🇨🇦

glad to see the curbside kits being reissued---those are a good way to break in a young builder----they are easy to build and the success factor of finishing one will probably make a beginner want to do more---nothin as frustrating as trying to build one with lots of detail as a beginner and losing interest and saying to heck with this hobby----my first kit was a 1961 Lincoln and my second kit was a 1961 Comet---these were basically curbside kits only with lots of custom parts and as a 14 year old I tried to use as many parts as possible---I am like you I build as a therapy and am not concerned when I wind up with a "1/25th" scale finish and is missing maybe the outside mirror or a radiator hose(you know what I mean)----I do like your habit of using the floor polish---seems like that would make for easy cleaning----I think when I start bringing my models out of storage I will be using this tip to freshen them up----bent your ear long enough---keep up the building

In 1983 I was driving my Dad's 1971 Buick Wildcat home from my high school one night, in a little bit of a hurry. Someone came around the corner with a Jeep that had about two dozen K/C lights on and I couldn't see anything, panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake. The car acted like it just had a tune-up and before I knew it, was going nearly 50 mph into a tree, right on the very edge of Thornton Rock Quarry!

You people need to stop complaining. This kit is a reissue of an original 1970’s kit. Many of the old kits were made as curbside kits. I think it’s cool they are reissuing these kits or retooling some parts to come back out with them. Prices are up all over the place, stop complaining about it on you tube and go out and vote the bums out who made all the high prices. The best is you can find a video on just about everything today, you can watch a video like this before you buy the model to know what it has in it and then chose not to but it. Personally I don’t like the under hood area of old kits so curbside is a good choice for me.

The Tamiya paint looked awful until you added the floor polish. The change in appearance was excellent.
AMT should discount these Craftsman Series kits to reflect having no engine. I don't see any good way to even modify the kit to add an engine, the hole in the chassis is so big, there's no place to mount the motor.

O k the round T w o has added to sixty nine Buick wildcat to the fleet of no motors To their lineup. If you really want a motor Radiator and firewall get a sixty six Buick Riviera. That has everything you need you can cut the hood out since it is One piece backside. Exacto knife. You're only talking about 15 minutes. That's the only way you're gonna get a motor in this kit? Yes round to should lower the prices on these Models. Why should we pay full retail? For half a car. Come on round 2. You are killing off your People who buy from you on a regular basis. Myself I don't need this. It's one because this was Reissued in the nineties. How many GTO's? Do we have to go through? Motors and transmissions. Radiators and Firewalls. A lot of us do not have extra parts.😢
