    I discovered PTX late. The first song I heard was Hallelujah with Avi and the second Sound of Silence with Matt. So for me it's not a old/new thing, just different singers. Gotta admit, I love them both.

    Not sure if you’re aware, Scott is actually a baritone and even sings the bass lines whenever the bass singer has a lead vocal. Amazing talent. I guess he winds up singing so much tenor because of all the pop music they sing.

    Some songs that feature Matt in his higher range are "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Mad World", you could also check out their live performance of "Hallelujah" in their 2021 tour, where he has a verse and has probably his highest note, or one of them!

    Matt has a beautiful solo in Amazing Grace, you really get to hear his deep bass in the New Rules x Are You That Somebody mashup, and there’s beautiful Matt+Mitch (aka “Match”) harmonies in Mad World, but you get to really see his personality along with his smooth, velvety tone in Mr. Grinch (and the background vocals don’t suck either 🙃). ps-we don’t care that it’s not Christmas season. I think we all listen to their Christmas music year round-LOL.

    I love Matt's part in this arrangement. There are a few peeks at Scott singing bass when Matt has the lead. I consider Matt more of a warm baritone / bass sound. He's still relatively young for a bass, i expect his low end to be more noticeable as he approaches 30.

    6 octave and one tone range. But they all have range for days. Matt leads on Amazing Grace, he sings beautifully ( they all do) in Come Along Also Mad World😊
    New Rules x Are you Somebody is epic Matt and Kevin

    • @rudewalrus5636
      @rudewalrus5636 Před rokem

      Yes, they all have great range. That and the particular mix of voices they have (and Mitch's unique talents) mean they can _harmonize_ at almost any point on the scale. Low? Matt/Avi & Scott. High? Kirsten & Mitch. Mid-range? EVERYBODY. There is hardly any point where they have to rely on a single voice (except Avi's really low range). That's something that makes their blend so incredible.

    Hello Carmen. So glad that I am catching up with your PTX reaction. For sure this is one of PTX's best and most popular arrangements. A Capella at its very best. They all shine in this one. They are all singing with such passion and energy. the voices staggering, layering and echoing - just fantastic. Scott is so strong at the start. Kirstie so sharp with her belting, Matt on those low notes. Kevin just stomping and clapping driving that beat. Love, love, love your comment about Mitch because his lower register is so smooth like caramel and he uses it perfectly. If you want to hear Mitch start low and expertly step-climb up the octaves, please react to Take On Me (no music video - only audio). More PTX please. See you next Monday!!

    To hear just how much Kirstin and Mitch can sound alike, try Let It Go (yes, the song from Frozen, LOL!). They do a complete version of the song (unlike the excerpts they do in the Frozen Medley with Superfruit), but there's no official video for it, although there is a Yule Log video. In that song, Mitch and Kirstin switch out the lead several times, but they sometimes do it at times that are a little unusual, so it's a test to see how well you know their voices to be able to tell who is singing the lead at any specific time. I cheated - I had to listen to it several times before I was relatively sure I knew when each was singing the lead, LOL!

    I love your reactions! If you love low notes, you might want to listen to a young Russian singer - Diana Ankudinova who is 18 years old in this video, singing a very unique cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. She's a contralto, and a commanding stage presence.
    czcams.com/video/e28Cmrx-i5A/video.html
    This performance was from a Russian show that aired last fall, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
    Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history.
