There was a time in the past when flag/touch football was more dangerous than tackle football, at least that was how we played it in the Army. The rules are much different today, took all the fun out of it.

@@daunte8106 I was in the Army for over 20 years. At the time you could block down field you could pretty much knock down who ever got in front of you. Anyone who was in the Army during the 80's and 90's can attest to what I am saying. Females would not have played with the Male teams. Touch football was brutal. The only thing not done was to tackle. I also played tackle football for 3 years for the post team. Touch football was a much different game, more injuries than we had playing tackle. You would not have enjoyed it. The current rules have made the game is much more friendly and gentle now.

Love watching non North American people react to football hits. Having played this sport for 15 years many moons ago I can tell you now that in my early 40's it takes a toll on your body, but it's still the greatest sport in the world and would do it all over again.

I have spent years listening to my British and European friends trash talk football. Calling it a pussy sport because of the pads. So watching these reaction videos is very entertaining and satisfying. Pity I was never a good player. I enjoyed playing defensive tackle.

A lot of truth though. If the player you're hit by is large and solid enough, it's the equivalent of being hit by a small car. Been on the wrong end of a well connected hit myself several times and even had the wind knocked out of me lol. Love this sport!

When I was young, many years ago, just out of high-school, my friends and co-workers would get together from time to time, and play full-contact football with no helmets and no padding. Believe me, I "had my bell rung" several times, but even so, those were the days!
I remember those days. When people were able to get hurt having fun and it wasn't looked down on. It's almost like people have forgotten that we have the ability to heal after getting hurt.
Two times in my life I played tackle football on the street. No pads, no flags. Tackling on concrete. Not trying to one up, but your post reminded me and it all flooded back.

They did tests and let the hardest hitters hit a tackle dummy that was equipped with all sorts of measuring equipment. The hardest hits were like getting hit by a small car at 20 mph (35 km/heure).
The thing is, the video doesn't show how big these guys really are. I remember seeing the first time I saw them in person. It's was like holy shit these guys are HUGE. They can run THAT fast and are THAT nimble. Absolute peek human physical performance.
The physics of the impacts are incredible.
Fugure out their mass, no how fat they can run, then calculate the energy involved in those collisions.
To your comment, no, it doesn't happen at every game. However, it has the potential to happen at every game. It is a violent sport, but that video spans decades of hits. The men who play football know what they're getting into. Also to all the rugby fans that say American Football players are wimps because of the pads, I say line up against those guys and take one of those hits without pads.
Actually, let them take the hit WITH the pads. Let's see how long they handle all the extra heat the pads keep in around your chest and head, plus the extra weight while going full tilt every play.

I highly recommend looking up Barry Sanders Highlights. He was the best running back in the NFL, meaning that he had great athleticism while he was running the ball. He moved very quickly and was very agile. I definitely recommend looking up his highlights! Especially if this video was a bit rough for you. We love seeing your reactions! Keep up the great work!

It can be more dangerous than being in a car accident, even with all of the improvements in equipment to make the players safer. People do get seriously hurt, but not very often. I had to watch your video twice because the first time I was watching the football video. 🏈✌️😎
at full speed you can get two people running 25mph at each other, creating a 50mph wall impact to the body.

Just so you know the "little" guys are 180lbs (80kg) and it goes up to the big guys some weighing in at 350lbs (158kg)and pretty much every one under 240lbs (108kg) could make some countries Olympic track teams, some of the big men can be fast too, so think about that these are large humans running full speed into each other. It's brutal and I love it and loved playing it (I played from 5 years old through college) I was an offensive lineman a Center (the guy that starts the play and snaps the ball between his legs to the quarterback) I played at 6'2" (1.88 meters) and 325lbs (147kg).
I played in highschool was left end lineman at 6'4" 340lbs. Ended up getting knocked out 1 too many times though.
I've said similar things on other reaction videos to that particular clip video, but I'll say them again here.
People often deride American football for wearing pads, but, until you feel the hit, you don't really know just what it's like. Things like having a helmet spear you in the ribs or having every bone in your hand bruised because it was slammed between someone's shoulder pads and someone else's face mask.
I only played in high school, but we'd often slam into each other hard enough to give ourselves headaches and ringing in the ears.

Growing up in Flint we used to say Day-TWA as a term of derision.
It is less violent because of rule changes than it was when I was young.

@@kellyrodak8358 You can get ejected if you hit helmet to helmet, also flagged or ejected if you hit a defenseless player ( usually a receiver in a bad position looking back to catch a pass, or a blind side block), which is just about every one of these hits. You can''t hit high or low. New roughing the passer rules does not allow you to hit the qb at the knees or helmet. I have seen flags thrown for pushing the qb down 2 seconds after he throws. Pretty much you have to tackle with your shoulders or wrap them up with your arms, you can't lower your helmet. They have really pushed to stop these collisions but they still happen sometimes. I am a NO Saints fan and they actually got banned from the playoffs one year for betting money on hurting players on the other team lol. They had a good chance of winning it all that year too.

Agree with others, "NFL's Greatest Jukes" - watch the players running, dodging, jumping ... it's _amazing!_ This is where you can watch and appreciate the beauty of the game!
Some of these pieces were old, before certain things were banned; grabbing somebody's helmet is now illegal (actually, almost anything involving the head is not allowed), also illegal are 'throw-downs', that is picking somebody up and throwing them onto the ground. This video convinces may people that football games must regularly result in trips to a hospital ... but from what I've heard the _practices_ are where most players are injured!

While I may not be a fan of sports, I understand what examples like this represent. It's the determination that pushes, some, men to risk more to get more. While it's not an uncalculated risk, when your opponent has the same goal and equipment as you, one must push harder than many of us are capable or willing to do. When strategy works/fails the results can be intense. I believe 'intense' was the word you were looking for Marie.
I live in Vietnam, and came from America. I’ve got lots of European and Aussie friends. Many use to tell me how much tougher soccer and rugby are because there are few stoppages and no pads. Well, most changed their view after I showed them some videos like this.
American football certainly can be brutal. There have been many new rules over the years to try to limit the injuries but it's still like car crashes without the cars. They wear a lot of protective gear but it's impossible to protect for every potential injury.
I played high school football in the early 80's. We all prided ourselves with not only being able to deliver big hits but being able to take them as well! Most of the clips in this video are from before the NFL put in the new concussion prevention measures.
If your a football player, every game you enter you dream of laying somebody out so hard they don’t get back up. It is the greatest feeling in the world, irreplaceable.

Not every game has many big hits like this. It’s more a physical ballet with extremely gifted and skilled athletes and most tackles are far less catastrophic.
It's hard to actually understand how large and strong these people are. You compared them to warriors, and you aren't far off. Imagine the potential of a human training daily to achieve the ability of tackling a human as hard as possible. That is exactly what these people do. Cheers!
As has been mentioned a lot of these hits would now be illegal due to their being more information about concussions & their effect on players.
My recommendation of a Sport to watch is Biathlon & the different skills required to do each discipline.

I played pop warner , highschool and college football as a line backer and full back and I miss it every day .there is nothing like crushing another player and hearing the crunch and ooof as they crumble to the ground
The main point of American Football is who has possession of the Ball and getting it back.The hits are incidental the main goal is how well the Play or down is executed and making some points on the Board.
The Sean Taylor (RiP! 💔😭) hit on Brian Moorman at @2:14 is still one of the best hits ever :) Brian, too his credit, hoped right up and patted Sean on the head afterward. :)
Sean was murdered in a home invasion in 2007. He had been injured and didnt travel with the team for their game against the Buffalo Bills. He died defending his girl friend and their young daughter.

Yeah growing up in school I played football all the way from seven years old till 11th grade.. it’s a actual blood sport it’s part of our culture.. it is like going into battle. Best times of my life were playing football. I’ll never forget my team going undefeated.

Growing up as kids playing organized football you were told to hit them so hard that they blow snot bubbles. The reason that you see some of the biggest hits on wide receivers ( the guys catching the ball) was to get inside they're heads. Letting them know that if they come across the field to catch a ball, punishment was waiting for them.

Loved your reaction to the hits. I played the game, as most American kids. Played a little in college but undersized and a ton of guys faster and bigger than me I played behind and finally gave it up after a few injuries which is a part of the game.

Yeah we're a bunch of crazy sobs lol however a lot of those hits would be penalties now by today's rules. Infact targeting in particular results in you getting ejected from the game.

Most of these hits are now illegal because of the injuries that come from them.
There have been some rule changes in the last few years to eliminate some of the most dangerous types of hits that can cause concussions. These clips are before those rules went into effect. But a legal hit can still be extremely brutal, so it will always be rough game. It also happens to be the greatest game, which is why it's so popular.
When the linemen hit each other they hit with such force and impact on each other it’s the equivalent of driving a pickup truck into a brick wall at 35 miles per hour and they do that 1,100 times a season.
A lot of those guys were illegal. It's called, "Targeting" and is a 15 yard penalty (the most yardage that can be given for a penalty).
Most of these hits were legal at the time they happened. Don't misinform. They're illegal now.
Targeting is a college football penalty.

My son is a senior at a large, football powerhouse high school in Texas. He played starting Center every year of high school.
He is 6'4" 320lbs. He got blindsided after the play was over. It caused over 70% of the cartilage that keeps the ball into the shoulder to tear away from the bone. It is an injury found in high impact collisions, such as car accidents.
Sadly, all the d1 schools buzzing around him disappeared after the injury.
Had a specialist fix his shoulder and he is looking at 6+ months of physical therapy. 😔
We like football because it's barbaric. Unfortunately the NFL has started getting political as well.

There are several purposes of those hard hit ... to distract them from fear of being hit and/or to knock the ball lose for a fumble or failed catch .. to wear down and intimidate your opponent ... and ... the fans love it lol

Your reaction is the same as mine when I watch a game. I'm from the South (Tennessee) so I love football, but I just never understood the game rules that well or why players always go out to hurt or injure someone else on purpose like some of those vicious hits in the video and then celebrate it.
The average linebacker in the NFL is approximately 240 pounds and runs about 15 miles an hour (short bursts). That's a lot of force on impact. Then you have defensive ends who weigh around 300 pounds, so when you have a huge mass moving at that speed it makes a serious impact. And it leads to lots of concussions.

I was a linemen (Offensive Tackle) in High School and would roll both ankles constantly! I had to have them taped up before each game and practice! Fast forward to 30 and Im feeling all those hits and due to my weakened ankles I have broken my left ankle 3 times in the last 10 years and had to have surgery on it 2 times! The next time I roll it I will have to have surgery to insert metal rods to make it stable cause i have no ligaments left! I have also had to have back surgery due to a bulging disc and have had both wrists operated on due to carpel tunnel syndrome! The thing is I wouldnt change a thing and I loved and still love the sport!
Some do get knocked out. Some get injured, but most of them jump back up line it was nothing. That's why all of the protective padding and they train so their muscles are more flexible to avoid injuries.
i used to play wheelchair football and we dont use tackles we use tags and its a bit more safer but my team has 20 state titles and even going back to back 2010-2014

I played football in school from a kid into high school. But I played hockey also almost pro. Football is a fun sport but I loved to play hockey.

The impact from getting hit from a defensive lineman whether you're a receiver running back is like the g forces of getting hit with a car that's going about 40 miles an hour so you're getting impacted pretty good and some of the players do get concussion from it

In today's games, many of the hits featured in this video would be called for penalties. Hits where the player uses their head as the impact weapon, or when a player "goes for the head", that is to say impacts the opposing player in the head are now penalized and players are not coached to tackle that way because of injuries and concussions. Many of the tackles where the player is lifted up and then slammed to the ground are now illegal as well.
I played football in Texas for 10 years. I can’t tell you how many guys washed out. I can’t tell you how many concussions I had or gave to other guys. It takes a special breed of guy. I loved it.
in this video it is only focused on the big hits ...so when you watch a football game on tv its not as easy to spot those big hits as often because your watching all of the other players too but those types of hits does happen fairly often
Since the smallest players are about 90 kilo's and traveling at a speed that would equate to an 11 second 100 meter dash there is a lot of force generated. Some of the largest players are closer to 150 kilo's and can still run at the equivalent of a 13-14 second 100 meters dash.

I didn't play until I was a sophomore in high school. The first practice I stepped onto the field for our center had his knee destroyed (ACL). I was a tackle and a defensive end and my favorite hit was one where the other team didn't cover me when I was on defense and the opposing quarterback rolled out and away from me. I got to rush him and he didn't know I was coming. The sound of the grunt he made when he hit the ground is still in my mind (close to 35 years later). When you get the chance to make a hit in football you are so focused and your adrenalin pumping so hard that it gets very aggressive. We were a small private school, so we were usually the ones GETTING hit. At the time I was about 6' and 180 lbs. As a tackle, that's real small. I was a better track athlete (hurdles and high jump) and a much better skier than a baller. I didn't play anything in college but my wife was inducted into the Gopher hall of fame for swimming (a bit less contact in swimming ). She even went to Olympic trials and finished 70th or so. She plays it down, but I can't claim to be 70th best at anything in the USA (well maybe procrastination but I think I have a lot of competition there). I now have a sophomore son who is 6'8" and is hoping to qualify for olympic trials in swimming this year (COVID is making it difficult but hopefully in a few weeks he will get the chance).
PS there is a hilarious video that pokes fun at European football (soccer) compared to many other sports. The classic shot has a football (soccer) coach who throws a fit when a feather floats down from the stand and lands on him. Then they show an American football coach talking to his winning team and getting a full cooler of ice and gator aid dumped on him AND a hockey coach taking a puck to the eye and smiling and brushing it off while his black eye develops. I'm not denigrating football/soccer players, they are in tremendous shape and have a ton of skill, but they are well known for taking dives and acting hurt when they are barely touched.

This has been a major controversy for many years in the NFL, CFL (Candian Football League) and in college football and there have been rule changes to protect the head and neck area of the players and reduce the risk of traumatic brain injuries. For example, It is illegal to grab a player by the facemask or by the back of their shoulder pads and if a player is found to be leading with their helmet they will be ejected from the game for targeting. It is also illegal to bodyslam a player once the player with the ball has stopped moving forward.
