- How to Install a Backsplash on a Vanity. In this video we will install a vanity backsplash on the back as well as the side of the vanity. This easy DIY backsplash job became a little difficult as the back wall was bowed at the corner, however as you will see we can overcame this with issue with some some drywall mudding and orange peel texturing. We used crystal clear silicone to attach and caulk the marble backsplash.
Hopefully you all find the video helpful and interesting.

#vanity #backsplash #walltexture - Jak na to + styl
I absolutely love your videos! Thoroughly explained and love all the tips and brands you share. Well done Harki!
Thanks Monica, the project became multi stepped once i realized the dang wall was bowed at the corner. Lol live and learn…
Excellent. Complete, thorough and efficient. Thank you!
Thanks appreciate that
Very helpful video. Lots of visual closeups!
Thank you
The best way to match the textured wall is to get rid of ALL the texture. 😊 Great video, thanks.
We are currently installing a new vanity and this is exactly what we needed to see! Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial. As a Newby to DIY learning as we go, and needed this video today!
Awesome thanks for the note. My drywall texturing skills are not that great but you do what you can. Hopefully your wall it mostly straight and you can just walk it. Good luck
Please do not follow these methods, educate yourself first read a few books or watch real pros..such as @homerenovision with Jeff thorton
Thanks for sharing how to apply the wall texture!!
Thank you appreciate that.
Great job. I just did my bathroom over, and went from a single to double vanity. Your video was very helpful. Thanks very much
Thanks, my drywall texturing needs some more practice.
All of this was an education Harki - I really hadn't come across any of these products and never heard of mudding! I guess there's always something new to learn. Cheers mate, I really enjoyed that. (And I've just noticed your mirror hanging vid - another one that CZcams decided to keep secret from me...)
Thanks Mark, yeah it’s all drywall / sheetrock and stick buildings in the states. Hope you are enjoying your Sunday. Cheers!
@@LonghornWorkshop Yes, I know what you mean - my own house is concrete block and cast concrete construction, even the roof. I think timber was in short supply immediately after the war so they build with what they had. And boy did they have concrete. Cheers mate, have a good, restful Sunday.
Great job! Thanks
Thank you for sharing this with us. Appreciate it!
Thanks I really appreciate you watching and leaving a comment
Thank you so much! I'm finally ready to tackle my backsplash install now
Thanks and hope your install goes well. If the wall is straight and level it’s a real simple project.
I would’ve sanded the rough edges more and put several layers of texture spray. Not just a single coat.
First coat adds some bumpy leveling.
But the next coat or two truly adds the real texture.
The mud is very evident from a distance. You want it hard to see from even up close.
Yeah it was my first time hence the results. Good tips though thanks for that. Right now most of it is covered by the mirror, but I plan to come back when I get time and redo the texturing.
@@LonghornWorkshop awesome, good stuff. I didn’t realize it was your first time on this type of project. Great job then 👍🏼👍🏼
An easy way to smooth the edges of new mud and to help it blend with existing texture is to wet sand it with a grout sponge or my preference, a wet paint brush. It helps smooth the edge and will make it disappear. Also, moving the texture can in a circular motion helps with the pattern as well.
This was super helpful and now I’m not so intimidated about leveling the wall on my own before installing a new back and side splash. Thank you!
Thanks, it’s never going to match perfectly so keep that in mind. Also practice on a scrap piece of drywall before you go for it on your wall…
Awesome tips!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, appreciate that
Great video. Saved to my favorites! Thank you.
Thanks appreciate that
Nice and clean. great job!
Thanks man, came out ok. May need to hit it again with the texture at some point. For now the wife is happy it’s done…🤣
Thanks for this great, thorough video. It has everything I need to start this task
Thanks appreciate that, I will admit the texturing it’s hard to match if you have textured walls. I am no expert at that so did the best I could. Most of my work is hidden behind the mirror…😃
Nice work and well explained, lovely bits of stone too! I didn't know texture came in a can either! 😂 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, yeah texture in a can is good enough for small patches and kinda does it’s job. That was marble and my advice to anyone is not use marble in your house, it’s really hard to maintain and stains really easy. Thanks again for watching and commenting
Great job as always! 👍
Thanks man
Thank You. I needed this instruction.
Great glad it was helpful, appreciate it

Thank you. This is so helpful
Thanks and glad it helped.
Great video. Thanks for putting this together. Can't imagine how many hours it took for the content and video. I was thinking to install a backspalash on my vanity but now by seeing this video I realized it is more work than I have time for.
If your wall is straight then it’s quick and easy. My wall had just over half inch of deflection. So for me the best option was to fix the wall first.
If it was a quarter inch I would have just caulked the gap and would have been ok.
It looks 👍 great
Excellent video...clear and informative
Thanks appreciate that
Great video. You kept it simple and it wasn't about you. Thanks!
Thanks appreciate that!
I like your handyman videos mate, there are so many things that I have never done so tips like these are very cool.
Cheers mate 🍻👍
Cheers Dirk!! I’d rather be working in the shop but these projects pop up all the time around the house. Thanks Amazon for the support, always appreciate it.
Looking forward to your next build!
In the days before drywall was common, lots of plastering was done after the trim was in place. As a result, plaster was made to fit the trim rather than the trim being made to fit the plaster.
The good old days, when things were done right
Well explained 👍
Thanks man appreciate that. Hope you are having a great Sunday
Nice! To the point..thank you
Thank you appreciate that
Should have applied silicone on the bottom of the slab as well for double protection in case the outer silicone wears off
I applied the silicone on the counter top first before I put the backsplash on.
Good video very informative mate.
Cheers appreciate that
Looks great Harki! I've not seen that done before, very clever flattening that section of the wall. I think I know why we avoid anything textured now though... hard enough matching the paint :P
Thanks, and yes unless you are a pro matching textured surface is not going to happen. I didn’t want to do all that work but the gap was to big to fill with caulk. Thanks again appreciate it
Thank you for your thorough explanation of how to fix this unfortunate situation! I just set a new vanity with a quartz top and the backpack looks like an inchworm set the drywall as it "ssss-es" it's way across the wall. 😜 Your video will help me fix it. Many thanks!
Yeah hope it goes well for you. I am not an expert plasterer so I made it look as good as I could and most of it is covered by the mirror.
You you are not comfortable it’s best to get a handy man to do the plastering so that it’s seamless.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching and commenting
Hello my friend,
I appreciate your abilities. You do many things successfully. Thank you for this useful information and video. all the best.
see you buddy.
Thanks Mehmet appreciate that. This was not very difficult 😄
@@LonghornWorkshop 👏👏👏
Thank you
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips. Some good ones. But some not so good. The joint compound on the wall, was missing a step. After sanding it down, texture the wall before painting. I would have just used a little silicone, to close that gap.
*safety tip as well - switch the wall plug to a GFCI
Over all, a good diy video for amateurs.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the great feedback. The gap was a little too big and for me I couldn’t live with that..lol
Yeah not a drywall expert, and not the best job but it’s a learning experience.
Thanks again, appreciate the constructive feedback
Good job Harki, turned out great 👍. Winged it like a pro. There are just so many small small things to do, to install these!
Thanks mate, yeah what turned out to be a someone job. Only came to know the wall was wonky when I finally came around to install the backsplash …😞
Great job 👍 bathroom is really coming together I liked it all but I have a question.
Did you use clear silicon between the back splash and the counter top or white silicon ?
Thanks man, I used clear silicon everywhere for the backsplash. First time I have used this crystal clear silicon and I really was very clear indeed.
Turned out very nice! Great instructions as well. Somehow, I frequently end up having to using the orange peel on a regular basis. I found that spraying in a circular motion makes it blend in with the existing texture much better. similar concept to feathering joint compound.
Yeah I agree with you on random circular motion is the way to with spray on texture. I saw you were using it on you last video as well…
Thanks again for checking in appreciate it.
I think I can really do this one!!!😄😄😄😄
Haha finally lol
Very helpful video! Where did you find the sidesplash? Or did it come with the vanity? Mine did not and I didn't realize it until after I destroyed the box....
Yeah so most vanities only come with the backsplash, I had to order a side piece separately. I bought it all from Home Depot online, I made sure they had the same type side splash before I ordered the vanity top
Hey, where did u buy that long back splash? Having trouble finding a long one!!! And is it better to finish it with caulk than silicone? Wouldn’t it look better with caulk? Thanks!
The backsplash came with the countertop, but we bought it from Home Depot. Check online Home Depot, else you may have to have it custom made.
Caulk or silicone depends on your personal choice. I think caulk would look good yes
@@LonghornWorkshop Yep! it’s gonna have to be custom-made. Thank you man!!!
Please explain what each tube is and does, that power grab for example
The power grab you do not need, I just used it as I had it. It’s a glue that holds everything together so it does not move.
You only need the sealant tube that is for kitchens and bathrooms, it’s a sealant and glue. The one I used was clear but you can use white as well
@@LonghornWorkshop
I understood that part but I was trying to leave a feedback maybe in the future to leave more details regarding the chemicals used and the tubes someone who's starting new has no difficulty. I'm not even sure maybe no one has any difficulty just now. In any case I was trying to help you make better videos in the future and that's all. Thank you very much
@@BabakHamedani oh I see what you mean. Thanks for the feed back it’s always appreciated
Just out of curiosity, why did you use clear silicone which shows all the gaps and imperfections.
It’s just a personal preference really. With clear I just apply and I am done. If you use while you will need to come back and may need to do some touch up paint work.
I belt sanded the middle of my backsplash to counter the wall bowing out a bit at that point.
That’s a good tip, thanks!
Actual backsplash installing instructions start at 6.20 minute mark. Before that is all about fixing the wall to be level
Thanks
Try a pair o Latex Gloves 🧤 for a cleaner project.
Most often, the ugliest thing is your own finger prints left behind…
BTW, the hardest job is to find matching splashes! 😮
Thanks for the tip !
I didn't see any silicone coming out of the tube.
The silicone I used was crystal clear so hard to see. You can use white silicone as well which most people prefer.
Thank you for the great video. Can I just say, I hate piercing the foil inside the calk tube. Seems like such a dumb design... I guess that's life though.
Thanks and I agree with you on that. Some tubes have that foil and some don’t, so obviously there is.no standard. Thanks for watching and the comment
Can’t find a cabinet that comes with a matching back splash along with a side splash . Help .
I had bought the countertop from Home Depot that came with the backsplash only. The side splash I had to buy separately…
I would not recommend Home Depot but it was on sale and I did the install so for me it was worth it. You have to search for vanity top side splash sold separately
im in sesrch of such backsplash from where did u get this
It’s from Hime Depot, the countertop and backsplash came together.
actually recently i bought a vanity from home depot and it has no sujhc splash i later realize what should i do i such situation cant find the exact measurement
@@faisalrafiq2992 so my vanity top came with only the back piece. I had to order the side piece separately from their web site
Why not silicone instead?
The sealant I used is specifically designed for bath and kitchen wet areas. I believe it is a silicone based product. I just used clear but it also comes in white
can i use two backsplash instead of one piece?
Not sure what you mean? Are you saying two pieces side by side instead of one piece?
If it’s side by side you can do that as long as you are ok with a seam in the middle. I suggest instead just add some decorative tile as backsplash, that would look nicer.
@@LonghornWorkshop I was trying to find vanity with backsplash I was able to get it but if I look just the backsplash price it's high I feel but good thing I found right top now
Harki, to smooth pure silicone, denatured alcohol works better than water. Just spritz a little on before smoothing and it doesn't stick.to everything. - Chris
Thanks man I didn’t know that, good to know appreciate that. As you said that silicone is a little sticky …lol
it looks so much worse with the poor texture, shoudve just caulked man
100% caulk is the way to go if there is no mirror directly above the backsplash.
AAP BHI AANA DOST NEW VIDEO PER
Thank you
Caulking would look better
Thanks yeah I think so too
good job but your orange peel is to smooth bat match
Yeah it’s not perfect for sure, most of it is hidden by the mirror
You did all that work to not have a big bead of caulk there in maybe a 6 inch area, so you filled it in with drywall mud and made an entire 2 foot section look bad. And you had to spend a bunch more time and money to do it! Should have gone with the caulk!
Thanks appreciate you watching and commenting
I just cannot get over the horrible texture. It looks sooo bad.
Yeah I know it’s not great, first time trying but most of it is under the mirror
That patch looks awful
Then you make your own video and show the CZcams world how to do it. Don’t diss on someone who’s trying to help the DIY world out.
Troll …
It all looks so bad😂
Ohhh hell no caulk it and paint it.
Lol nah man I have seen that before and I just can’t do it. Other option is to just tile the back which would be a lot easier.
