    Another great job along with commentary. Your comment about the plastic is spot on. This kit is from molds that date to the late 1980s. Like many Italeri kits, including those 10 years older than that, it is very well done. You can also make some changes and scratchbuild add-ons to improve the overall quality. i just ordered the M109 with the long barrel. I have the original kit at home from the first issue, untouched. I can go back and guild it with confidence the kit is quite good. In this case, Tamiya has done a nice job of adding some appropriate figures. Thanks for sharing your work.

    Hi, Q! Sorry it's taken me so long to comment. This is Damon Bruce. I changed my CZcams account hence the new name you might not recognize. Thank you for this excellent video. The Vietnam war is very personal for me too. My dad served. He was a Army helicopter mechanic that went to ranger school and then was sent to Vietnam. He came home addicted to heroin and pretty messed up. After doing some time in prison, he cleaned up and turned his life around. So proud of him. Also my uncle was Air Force and repaired fighter planes at Than son Nhut AFB, South Vietnam. I have had several veteran friends, two of the best, Sam and Mike, and we have had awesome times together. Thank you for doing what you do. Keep up the amazing work. Your skills are inspiring to watch! Love the details like the arty rounds and the map.
    Blessings, my friend!

      Hi Charlie. I just watched your newest video on the SBD Dauntless and I like what you done so far. It's well on its way to being finished and I'm sure you will make it look fantastic. You are welcome. My goal in making videos is to encourage folks like you to build their own model kits. You been doing this hobby for over 50 years but what interests me is that you never knew that there is a modeling community. Well, welcome to the community! I think being involved in this community will enrich your hobby experience. It has for me. By the way, I looked at your other video of your Harley Davidson-nice bike! I used to have a Police KZ1000 motorcycle years ago. Riding motorcycles are fun! Take care and have a great day!

    Nice.......I was in artillery in the US Army from 1976 to 1979 in Germany. Worked on M109A1 self propelled gun. Then on 155, 8 inch and Honest John rocket nuclear rounds. Was 19 years old...a lot of responsibility for a 19 year old. The gun you built reminded me of that time. Thanks QDC!!!

    I have a hard time falling asleep so I usually try to find relaxing videos to watch before bed. I love Military vehicles (especially old WW II Planes as you do from time to time) while also model kits and honestly. Your channel provides so much though that I've always wanted from model kit videos for a every day kind of man who has a strong passion. I may never have the money or time to do any kits myself but qdc, you inspire me that one day I could take up a model kit hobby like my grandfather use to. You might not be loaded in viewers and you might not be the most professional experienced youtuber. But your love for what you do overshines all of those things other youtubers have that make them so hugely watched and it truly makes the people who watch your videos appreciate this and what you do and just brings a unique peace of mind with a smile that no one else makes but you. Never stop doing what you do, no matter how discourage or hesitant you ever feel in front of the camera. Because no matter what, you're the only person who brings this unique feeling to this genre of videos and no one else has this kind and warm voice full of passion when it comes to explaining the smallest of details that some would skip over that makes your subscribes so entangled in enjoying your videos. You're wonderful and a one of a king. Never stop making videos, buddy or I might just become a never sleeping constantly over worked zombie.

    The end bit about Ron was great. Pleased you put the photos in. The build is great and it’s good to remember that yes, the kits look cool, but these are based on real machines, used by real people who all have stories to tell. I recently went to the RAF museum in London and the best part was the photos of the WW1 pilots.

My Dad served in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant commanding a group of M107’s and M110’s. I’m building it for him. Honestly I think this was an Italeri kit and Tamiya obtained the molds to keep it in production.

      Agreed wholeheartedly!
      The same shameful things happened here in Australia when our diggers returned home. The post-war treatment and rates of suicidality and other morbidities amongst returned servicemen and women from the Vietnam conflict are a sickening stain on the histories of both of our nations.
      There have even been published longitudinal studies suggesting a statistically significant link between increased suicides and mental illnesses among the CHILDREN of these vets - suggesting a multi generational link of the trauma of war and mistreatment thereafter... this is terrible beyond comprehension. I think the saying 'hate the war - not the soldier' is particularly apt in these situations.
      I happily and proudly served in the Australian Army as an infantryman for 6 years, and count myself lucky to have not experienced the same problems. Please pass on my sincere respects to your veteran friend and keep up the amazing work mate. You are a good man, and your work always inspires me to further develop my own modelling skills!

    A modeler' suggestion... Use a wooden/bamboo skewer for your point outs... That would permit a slightly smaller obstruction of the surrounding areas you are pointing out.

    Hi Col, super job mate well done. Are you adding this to our Facebook page !! If not I could always do it !!! Hope your well and your family ? As I'm an ex marine but British I love hearing stories from older marines. I've served twice in Iraq and that was another war we shouldn't of really been there. I lost my spotter and my best mate, in my second tour , I was a shooter. I loved my times but saw some harrowing things but none quite as bad as Ron perhaps saw. Big respect to Ron and his service buddies. Hoo Rah Ron !!!

      I forgot about the facebook page. Sorry. I just added a post to your group build. I didn't know you were a sniper. :) You have to trust your spotter in order to be an effective sniper, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Today is Memorial day in the United States. It is a time of remembrance of the ones who died for their country. Although you and your friend are British, I still honor your friend for the sacrifice he paid for your country.

      Thankyou Colin , your words and kind thoughts do mean alot. Thankyou for your post to I have seen it. What a wonderful build, again. I'm still struggling to get this kit even on eBay !! Lol you know last year I sold my last stash which had this kit and I had nearly 600 kits. I'm really gutted I did. Mind you I suppose we have all done silly things where ladies are concerned shall we say ! Lol oh well life is like our wonderful hobby " a learning curve " . Thanks again Col. Hope you and your family are well , stay safe my friend

      Air support is the norm now I think. More precise (kind of) than artillery.

    Great review and build. It looks so cool, but am not going to build because of plastic quality. I never liked building Italeri models. Just did a WW1 tank 1/35 male and it was produced by Italeri and the plastic was also bad in that kit. Thanks Ron for your service.

    qdc, for those hard jobs, like the barrel, you might want to try the quick setting extra thin cement from Tamiya. It dries in an instant. Smells a bit like Acetone though.

    Hello !! It is Yasu again. How are you doing and the situation with Corona ? We are still not over but I guess some parts are loosining. I viewed the Tamiya-Italeri M107 Self-Propelled Gun video but did you know that Tamiya offers a Metel Barrel on option ?Today I have 2 questions.① You used Static Grass on your Diorama but how did you make the grass stand up ? I have learned from other videos that you need to actually use some kind of Machine to have it stand but it looks like yours stands without such treatment.② You might feel odd me asking this question at this stage but why do you call your self QDC ?Hope to hear from you soon.Yasu

    Great work! I see you guys using black primer. I asked at my LHS and they told me primer comes in grey or white. What brand black primer are you armor guys using? Thanks. Also just a suggestion: Try forming some tracks behind the tank to show how it got to that spot. Otherwise it looks like a helicopter dropped it right in that position. Love the music choice and the Vietnam story at the end!

    • @qdc748a
      @qdc748a  Před 6 lety

      I use automotive black primer that I bought at my local auto part store. I like to mix my own paints-I am from the old school of thinking. You are right. I didn't think about the tracks. I need to remember that the next time I build my next diorama.

    Once the wash has dried, do you just use it as it dries, or do you clean it up at all? Also, if you do clean the wash a bit, what method do you use to do that?

    • @qdc748a
      @qdc748a  Před 6 lety

      Once the wash is dry, I normally used a paint brush moistened in mineral spirits to take the excess off.
