Waste Gate Actuator Rattle Noise on FL5 Type R

- This rattle sounds like metal-on-metal scraping. Could easily be fooled into thinking there's a pebble stuck in your brake caliper. You can hear this noise whenever you roll down your windows and coast / engine-brake in lower gears.
This noise can be heard on turbocharged Honda Civic and Acura Integra
Thanks for posting this video, my girl thought I was crazy. I even let her drive the car so I can see where the sound was coming from.
Absolute legend posting this btw, I have an FE1 SI and recently put a CAI on and then I heard this noise, thought something was wrong. Went to forums with no proof of the noise.
This sound is identical to what I'm hearing so thank you!!!
I thought I was crazy! I’ve been checking the rotors for any potential rocks that may have been stucked, but nothing seems to do the trick. This videos helps a ton!
Heard this the moment i drive it off the lot, thought i broke it in wrong, what a relief. 😂
Did you do anything about it?
Thanks for posting this because neither me or the dealer could figure out what it was.
I've been going back and forth with the dealer about my '24 Integra for weeks now. They said there's nothing unusual and half them couldn't hear it or figure out what it was. 😅
Omg literally same but with my 24 integra type s
Bless you for posting this. My DE5 Integra Type S makes the exact same noise when I left off the throttle at around 3k and above RPMs. I thought something was wrong but all the forums say it’s actually normal 🤷🏾♂️
Yep, got this noise as well. Drives me nuts when I accelerate hard or coast
Didn’t seem to hear it when I watched POV videos of other CZcamsrs driving their fl5s
It is quite annoying! If this sound came from any other part of the car (e.g. belt, brakes) it would be subject to recall. I think POV videos are usually windows up so it doesn't get picked up. Or if windows are down the wind noise muffles it.
I hear the same thing as well only when windows are down and iam only at 200 miles I thought it was my the rotor at first lol
Thank God i found this post, i thought i was trippin about the rattle sound from the waste gate every time i let go off the gas it makes the sound. It got to the point where i went to acura dealer shop to have it check and they said it was normal and i didn't believe them lol. 😂 Thank you for this bro! Godbless.
The dealer just sent you on your way or did they fix anything? Same thing happening to mine
2024 CIVIC SI here with 600 miles I heared it first at 100 miles. Im blown away honda was ok with this. Everyone please report this to your dealer.
Three points after hours of research:
1) Honda/Dealership will most likly tell you its normal and do nothing.
2) Exhuast and intake to drown it out. This was my solution and it worked enough for me.
3) Drive around it... It does not make the sound under 2,000rpm for most people. If you down shift fast enough you can drive techically drive around it. Also braking does help however most people hear it while braking just not as loud.
Went to the dealership before seeing this video and I can confirm, they will just say the vehicle is making normal sounds.
I live on a big hill so I get to hear it every time I go out. Sounds like a little bell ringing lol.
Please let there be a fix for this … it’s terrible on mine
Found anything? Or u went and got an exaust? 😂
It's normal my fl5 has had that sound since the day I bought it. The rattle is definitely more noticeable than the fk8's
You correct on that my fk8 day 1 I bought it I was also hearing a rattle but you notice to hear it more when stock after modding and making car sound louder and stuff you can barely even hear it
Man my car does the same thing it’s annoying I noticed it maybe about a week after owning it. I usually hear it more on the deceleration from mid rpm or slightly in between shifting gears
OmG yes this is it. Brand new 1.5t integra a spec 2024 less than 200 miles and I noticed the same noise going down a slight decline at 2 and third with foot off of the gas on deceleration
From 1.5k to 3k rpms
Yes my fl5 just started having this noise. Around 3k miles rn. Very annoying, but I guess it’s normal.
@@hamzaabdullah5583 Bro have you heard about a solution? Im desperate.. especially with summer coming up, I dont wanna hear this everytime I roll my window down :(
@@warwid5419 Sadly no. No solution. I searched Reddit but everyone has come to the conclusion that it’s just the way the car is. I just blast music so I don’t hear it 😭😭
@@hamzaabdullah5583 ohhh man that sucks.😔😔 Thx for the response tho. I guess imma have to buy an exaust and maybe a downpipe too haha.
lol, same noise I've been noticing on my fk8, I was thinking it was my brakes but it doesn't ago away when I modulate the pedal, goes away when I apply throttle and only appears when coasting.
Same exact thing on my fl5. I bought it 1 weeks ago and noticed it 3 days ago. I thought I broke it already 😂
I hear the same thing as soon as my foot is off the pedal in my FL5, maybe it'll just be something I get used to.
there's gotta be a rather easy fix for this rattlesnake and the terrible hissing sound.
Everyone just says it's 'normal' but unless it is essential for the actuator to be rattling like that... I don't want it.
There must be a grease or lube that can dampen all that noise, and can withstand the high heat
If you find a reliable fix let me know. It's definitely annoying. I don't know how manufacturers hear that and thought it's acceptable.
@@PacficNorthwestDad You know, even the Acura Integra Type S has same issue, and that is supposed to be 'premium' lol. FK8 Type R had same issue as well, but it was not nearly as bad. Maybe Honda Japan wanted to make sure people knew it's not an EV 😂
@@boolji 😔 Maybe most of these Honda turbocharge engines are paired with auto or CVTs so so they can program out the coasting in gear. The manual customers are just acceptable sacrific.
let me comment here real quick just in case someone mention something in the future
Someone said they don’t have that sound on there fl5 lol, roll your windows down. That sound drives me crazy, it was just as bad on my fk8. Both the fl5 and fk8 are also notorious for gathering pebbles in the heat shield near the brakes. My dashboard also makes terrible vibrations in the cold.
FYI my 2022 Civic Si makes the same sound (wastegate actuator) when I lift the throttle in 1st/2nd/3rd Gear at low speed, it’s not only an issue on the FK8/FL5/ITS😢
So what is this sound? Normal?
Yeah I hear this on mine too been trying to figure out where it's coming from!
Did you see the 2024 type r pricing increased by 1k. Sad to see they didn’t skip a year.
This was known since the FK8 was released, FK8 has the same issue, I been dealing with it since 2017 lol
Just picked up a ‘17 fk8 and I panicked and thought the turbo was going out lol. Any way to fix it
@@chrish1921 no way of fixing it, it’s a widely known issue and Honda has stated that it’s not causing any issues to have recalls on vehicles
Here the same exact sound when coasting. Guess it’s normal then lol
I’m experiencing the same problem . I just took mine today and told them it could be this hopefully they can help and not let me down
My Si does this and it pisses me off so much
Did it pass with time? Found any solutions? Im legit thinking about selling mine, shit is annoying.
I dont want to believe there isnt any fix for this. WTF Honda :(
IT came from the turbo ,i have confirmed lastweek.Maybe a metal clip loose, not a big problem but annoying one
Thank god I’m not the only one lol
This hurts me so much. What can we do?
Mine does the same thing tighten the actuator you’ll be fine
Did you tighten yours? How?
sounds a lot louder than mine. mine actually stopped one night after i did a pull and hit the rev limiter. maybe it needed to hit redline to finish calibrating or something.
I think its the dip stick if you tap on it it kinda makes the same sound
It’s the same on the 11th gen si I hate the noise.
Wow! I’m glad I don’t have that noise. I have 3,600 miles on mine
Roll year windows down, all the type rs have that actuator sound. Yours is no different.
@@ag4591moron I know what my car is doing and what it sounds like. I’m a mechanic. I don’t have that obnoxious sound. I have driven my car with the windows down. Don’t tell me what my car is doing. You’ve never seen or heard my car so how can you tell me what my car is doing? Just because your car sounds like that you want mine to have the same sound as yours? GTFOOH! lol! My guess would be it’s a certain batch of FL5’s.
Did you try rolling your windows down?
Anyone have a solution to this? Is this okay for the car?
That phone mount looks good can you share the name
It clips to the grille of the 11th gen civic nicely. Sadly the hook that secures it on there broke within two weeks. I did not bother getting a replacement. Good design in theory but poorly executed.
I here the same only 600mi on mine
