  • We recently sailed on Oceania Cruises’ Sirena for a 7-night cruise of the Mediterranean. Carrying only 670 passengers at double occupancy, Sirena is one of the smallest and oldest of Oceania’s 7 ships currently in operation. It is an “R-class” ship, originally built in 1999 for Renaissance Cruises - and also previously owned by Princess Cruises. In fact, the Sirena is 1 of 4 different “R-class” ships in Oceania’s fleet, alongside the Regatta, Insignia, and Nautica... meaning this cabin will closely resemble a Veranda category stateroom on any of those 4 ships.
    The Verandah category staterooms measure a comfortable 216 square feet. Even though the ship is 25 years old now, it was most recently refurbished in 2019, and today the cabins look light and contemporary, modern and chic.
    Join us for a tour of a standard Veranda stateroom on Oceania Cruises’s Sirena, cabin 6066. Find out what we loved about this cabin, a couple small drawbacks, but also one key way in which this older Sirena cruise cabin has an advantage over similar grade cabins on Oceania's newest ship Vista.

    Have been on Regatta, Nautica and Marina (going on Vista in September-can’t believe it doesn’t have this much closet space! Yep-the bathroom is definitely the draw back-the shower especially! I had one very rocky night in the Med and almost fell into it because the doors push in and out! There ought to be a locking mechanism. Great narration and very nice video.

      You make a great point about the shower! While it has some advantages, safety issues are a concern with the doors. Curious - out of all the Oceania ships you've sailed on, which one is your favorite?

    Thank you for your video on the Serena Balcony Statement. Great to see you gave it a thumbs (despite the small bathroom). Brought back memories of our Insignia bathroom on our first cruise fifteen years ago. Our Sept B2B Baltic cruise on Serena will be the first time back on their R class ships. We have been on their O class ships since then. Any other videos on your Serena trip coming?

      We really enjoyed our Sirena cabin - small bathroom and all! In fact, we really loved Sirena - we have a soft spot for R class ships. But yes, we will have many more Sirena videos coming - stay tuned!

    We really enjoyed the dover sole in Jacques on Marina. It is too bad that Jacques has been replaced with Embers on Vista (and presumably Allura). And no Jacques on Serena; but we also enjoyed Red Ginger which is on Serena.

      We will have our Vista dining guide out soon, and don't want to say too much now, but we really liked Ember. We do, however, want to sail on an Oceania ship that has Jacques.

    We did the Vista earlier this year and were thinking of trying a different ship. Great room tour.😁👍

      Thanks so much! We love Sirena, but it’s very different to Vista. What ship/itinerary do you have your eyes on?

      @@callingallports not sure...we were thinking either the Marina or the Rivera since they are the next to newest ships.

      @@rocktheboat7214 we have friends who were just on the Marina - they really liked the refurb. Either one is bound to be good though

    Loved the video, and as always the music track! Really interesting to compare the storage with the otherwise larger Vista balcony. The bathroom does look so small though - seemingly the only negative. Looking forward to the rest of the series😊

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you, Lesley! You expect the older ship cabins to be smaller - and yes, the bathroom is tight and also drab. The closet and storage on Sirena is a pleasant surprise, in that light. And makes it all the more baffling that Oceania didn’t recognize that the balcony cabin storage on Vista was insufficient. The desk/vanity on Sirena is also better.

    • @lesleywaghorn1627
      @lesleywaghorn1627 Před 3 měsíci

      It is strange, and while it is nice to have such big and beautiful bathrooms as on Vista, you would think they could have achieved that and still had ample storage and a larger desk space. We discussed the value of Concierge level with Vista, does your opinion change with the smaller ships? May the additional space be more of a benefit? By the way when do facilities/spaces like Baristas usually open in the morning?

    • @lesleywaghorn1627
      @lesleywaghorn1627 Před 3 měsíci

      It's funny when I started watching cruise vlogs I thought Holland America may be the sweet spot in terms of size, now I'm wondering if I may like smaller😊

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@lesleywaghorn1627 It's hard to compare the concierge offerings between the two classes of ships, as we did not upgrade to Concierge for our Mediterranean voyage. We've talked and came to a decision that maybe we'd skip Concierge for 7 days voyages, but take advantage for longer sailings, when we're more likely to use the spa.
      As for opening times, Baristas is open at 6:30 every morning. Was there another spot you were curious about?

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@lesleywaghorn1627 We definitely flip flop. Holland America is a great size and its entertainment offerings are superior to what you find on a smaller ship. But the small ships are great in so many ways. If Vista could take on some of HAL's Music Walk elements, we'd have our perfect ship!

    Love the vids, how would you compare food between Vista and Sirena? Different, same, one better?

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks. Food on both is excellent. Vista has an advantage with the additional venues, especially Aquamar Kitchen and Baristas Bakery. Though we’d likely give Sirena the edge, particularly the Grand Dining Room. We didn’t have a disappointing dish our entire voyage. We’ll have a complete Oceania dining guide video out in due time!

    Enjoyed your video, thank you! We are considering taking a cruise on Sirena next year. We may select a cabin that is right above Baristas. Just wondering if you think that we will hear the noise from Baristas just below us. Did you hear any noise coming from below your cabin? Are the cabins well soundproofed. Unfortunately, I am a very light sleeper. Any information would be appreciated.

      Thank you so much for watching and your comment!
      We don't think you'll have any issue with Baristas being below your likely cabin, the hours are relatively limited. As for the cabin itself - I (Diana) am a heavy sleeper, Andrew a very light sleeper - the two of us slept extremely well the entire cruise. We hope you enjoy Sirena!
