Developed by Incognito Entertainment and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Twisted Metal: Head-On was released for the PSP for March 2005. It was ported to the PlayStation 2 as Twisted Metal: Head-On Extra Twisted Edition in February 2008. Twisted Metal: Head-On is an excellent handheld Twisted Metal game but the Extra Twisted Edition is easily the definitive version.

I loved this game, specially the Transylvania level. I really hope that the Twisted Metal license gets revived
Greece level had the best music though
Greece is a pretty sick level. The mini game for that is a ton of fun. I do wish the soundtrack was a little bit more like tm2 where there was some metal music thrown in there.
yeah the reboot that came out in 2012 was not very good way too hard racing levels killed it for me and the stories werent as good and more

We need a "Sweet Tooth Collection" or STC to come out on PC with online capabilities for every Twisted Metal. Just like Halo now has.

Easily my favorite of the series. My only disappointment was the lack of intro and mid-boss cutscenes for the characters, which Black had done previously. And with such stellar endings, too! Sweet Tooth's in particular was incredible.

I think out of all the TM games I played Head On, Black and 4 the most. I loved how in Head On and Black each vehicle had secret compartments for all the weapons which I thought was a neat and fun detail to look at. iirc I bought Head On as soon as it came out for PS2 because I liked Black so much and I was not disappointed.

My brothers introduced me into the series with this game on PS2.
Wasn't into it originally, but I think that the character, Twister got into playing it because when I was younger, I was really into weather and a character in the game that can literally start a tornado got me onboard real quick.
Plus when I was younger, there were just certain games that I flat out sucked at, but this game was an excellent exception with controls that were really easy to get used to.
I put so many hours into this game and it's still my personal favorite game of the series to this day.
Never knew this existed. Would have loved this. This was fav series as a kid.
This was one of my better PSP games. Loved the music for the tower tooth battle, totally metal.

Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition was my introduction to the series. If I recall correctly, seeing the announcement trailer for the PS3 one at E3 2010 was what piqued curiosity, and for the better if you ask me.

For me the TM2 is the best because of game play feeling and fizics of cars movment and efects. In "the Head on" instead of this the developeres from Incognito shouldnt just renovate and rebuilt the old game TM2 engine, ad grafic, efects and fix the existed bugs. Ad more arenas and weapons and that's would be a boom for kids and even for older peoples.
The Twisted Metal 2 engine was updated to make "Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012" for PS1
A remaster of TW1, 2, Head On in a bundle for the PS5 would be FUCKIN' SICK.
This game was my favorite growing up. My cousin and I would both play as the cop cars on split screen & it was always challenging
Easily one of the best games in the franchise. If you get a gameshark you can even play as any of the Black cars in Head On's campaign, technically making it have the biggest car roster

This was the game that defined twisted metal for me. This and 4. I remember spending hours on the hardest difficulty doing co op dark tooths with my brother. It was the best!

It would be awesome in a new game when shooting napalm in a field of grass it doesn’t burn out but eventually will burn all the grass. Make it look like a battle ground foreal!
In retrospect, I wish I actually checked this game out back in the day.

Head On was one TM game I owned and was my all time favorite game. The soundtrack wasn’t all that great but I always had Disaster Proof (the song that plays on Big Blue Stadium) stick in my head on how catchy it was.
My only gripe with Extra Twisted is that Slamm’s special is odd
See on the PsP, you saw him grab you, slam you down with some heavy motion and you hear the smashing and then he flings you. In Extra Twisted, they like sped it up with no sound and sped up Dark’s special too for whatever reason. It’s rly my only gripe since Mr.Slamm and Dark Tooth are two of my favorite vehicles and seeing the special sped up for whatever reason was so weird and annoying to me
You could unlock so many skins for cars and whoever has the most kills, the kill leader has a reward for being killed so that could explain why the other cars target you. And have the composers for the scores for the Doom 2016 do the sound track! Perfect. And make the cover art look like an Iron Maiden album cover
They should remaster this game and maybe add some of the missing characters like minion, yellowjacket and darkside
In my world, this game is the TRUE Twisted Metal 3.
This was a little more fun to me than Black, idk why but maybe it was cuz this was much lighter and a little more easy. Wish they would've added middle cutscenes into this version.

Well, it's their fault they added shitty RTS as a mini game. Should had less scope and more HEAVY METAL!
Alacorn I didn’t like the strategy element, but I think the real problem was the lack of replay value.
I wish the game would’ve had a new game plus since you get the most powerful shit at the endgame.
I remember the first play through I was utterly confused by the RTS thing since I’d never seen any mention of it in the promotional articles or reviews, but it grew on me until I realized that if I started the game over I would lose all those sick solos and Deuce Upgrades.
I wish I’d have gotten a little more time in the oven you know? Felt very undercooked and is unfortunately why it never got a sequel. Maybe after Timesplitters there’ll rumors or something 🤞
You should also check out Critical Depth and Rogue Trip Vacation 2012 since they're also made by the same people who did Twisted Metal 1 and 2.
Rogue trip sucks because you have to pick up tourist and take them around places while people attack you. I'd rather just focus on car combat.
I need a recommendation fellas. Never touched this series, but this video has made me incredibly interested. What would you say is the best entry game.
Start with 2. Then play Black and Head-On.

In my opinion TM4 was the best, it was the only TM game where you could create characters, it had great maps imo, the gameplay itself felt really good, it had a badass soundtrack, fun characters to play as, and had some of the coolest sound effects

Sony needs to realize how good this franchise is and make a new entry for ps5 but make it more like the first 2 games, black and head on. TM on ps3 was such a let down, graphics were amazing but the lack of different characters and lack of TWISTER was a massive bummer for me.
Not having a different driver for each car made that game suck and not feel like a true twisted metal game.
I had no idea Lost exisited. I enjoyed the PSP version of Head On but skipped on the PS2 one. Gunna go scoop it up now.
Same. Played the PSP version first but the PS2 version is kinda buggy though (sometimes crashes) and there are minor changes I didn't like. TM:Lost was pretty interesting too but that was also buggy and crashes sometimes.

People complained about the headless driver but not Crazy 8 from Black... At least the headless guy is believable because that has to be magic. Crazy 8 didn’t seem supernatural he was just missing eyes but could drive. Clearly to be headless you’re super natural so seeing isn’t unbelievable just like the headless horsemen story. Just having no eyes tho... Black is still the best if the series by far.
Head on really should of been on the ps4 by now.

Apparently there was a code that was made that basically makes the twisted metal lost cars and maps appear in the main game which does add to the experience

13:47 i would argue that it has tons to offer for fans of TM4 as well because of the special attack system and the maps having explorable areas, which I know was always part of the game, but it was very prevalent in 4 which is my (and I will get flack for this) absolute favorite in the series. I loved TM4. I played it so much and got a second copy to keep at my cousins house (paper route meant i was rich for a fifth grader)

I feel like if head on had been released after 2 the series might still have been around today. I know you love 3 and there are things I like about it but head on is objectively a better game.
I've always considered Twisted Metal as an arena shooter first and foremost, just like Quake or DOOM. The gameplay loop of collecting pickups around an arena to use in combat is very much the same. Somehow, I've not once seen anyone else make this comparison. Instead, people seem to label it under generic "vehicular combat," as if Twisted Metal plays anything like Blur or Crossout; even its control scheme is against that.
Demolition derby style vehicular combat. But the comparison you made is valid. Twisted Metal is one of the few series (if not the only one) in the genre to exclude racing with the exception of TM2012. That's one of the reasons why I love it.
I see it exactly like unreal tournament and doom etc. and TM was my first game I ever played. So I completely agree and it's a good way to sell people on it who arent into car combat games

I guess I just don't like the gameplay. I hate the feel of black, and head on is the exact same. One thing I loved is the collision detection of the first two games. After 2, it all went downhill, including 4.
If Black is dark, head on is "light", or at least when it comes to having more color, and bringing back the more goofy, cartoony look.
I love how much variety it has, different vehicles, and the aesthetics are gorgeous. Plus, back stories.
So, I prefer this over black. I'll say that much.

I really wish this got a digital release similar to Black on PS4. This series is just being completely ignored by Sony, which is just insane considering it’s turning 25 this year and is one of their longest running franchises.
I liked all the Twisted Metal games I think my three favorite her Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 and Twisted Metal head-on I like the way the game controls are set up in the games but one of the things I wish that had been continued ever since Twisted Metal 4 with the idea that you can create your own character and do some customization yourself that was one of the reasons why I really like Twisted Metal 4 yeah the storyline was lagging but everything else was pretty good but I also like Twisted Metal black as well it's everything always thought would happen in apocalyptic world always look like it took play after a nuclear war just like Carmageddon 3 TDR Carmageddon twos sequel but to be honest always thought it would be super awesome to have had the creators a Twisted Metal and Carmageddon create a vehicle Warfare game those are my thoughts on this.
To me one of the best if not the best Twisted Metal game ever.
I've seen other reviews of the SingleTrac/Incognito Twisted Metal games and nobody seems to care about AI.

I bought this for $20 when it came out for ps2 hella fun.
I really like the Stadium music and the Tower Tooth music. The Stadium music is by the band LeVeL and their self-titled album (where this song is from) is very good imo. As for the other music tracks, they're laaaame. The obvious solution is to mute the game's music and put on a kick-ass metal playlist to run in the background. If you're using PCSX2 (PS2 emulator), you could easily play your own music on your preferred music player and control the tracks with hotkeys on your keyboard or button combos on your controller. I'm gonna work on another playlist with a bunch of instrumental death metal on it >:D

@@AkiRalcolf What are you talking about?? This game's ost is not on Spotify. All that comes up is a custom playlist made by someone called kevinlr28. I found the ost on YT and really there aren't many songs that excite me.

Sadly no the last original release was a twisted metal on the ps3 in 2012. They did release a ps2 classic version of twisted metal black however on ps4.

David Jaffe says currently its not happening and if it is they haven't talked to David, then again David lied last time and said the same thing before TM PS3
Sadly no. David Jaffe is more focused on GoW right now. But the only TM report I heard is that Sony is making Twisted Metal into a TV Series. Although, that report was a year ago so there's currently no updates about it yet.
