    Nice clip. I would love to see a more advanced one where the feeder keeps the knife in front of him and uses his off hand to protect his blade hand.

    So many styles of Silat, ranging from extravagant dance-like styles, to ones similar to shaolin tiger claw or Tae Kwon Do. What style or lineage is this one? I would like to read more of it as it is very similar to Kali/Escrima.

      I'm guessing this is Bruneian kuntau or pukulan. This master is from Brunei which is apart of Borneo. I'm from Sarawak the Malaysian part of Borneo and we have an almost similar style. You can tell its kuntau from the stance, our stances are more upright and our hands some would say resemble wing chun because kuntau has some chinese influences as you can tell from the name. Each tribe and district have their own respective styles of kuntau.

      @Aidan Fisher There are many styles when it comes to handling the knife in Latin America, there is the urban one that handles the lower classes in the cities, there is the mountaineer or peasant in the countryside and one decade the styles vary.

    Those techniques may work if you live in action movie, out of the screen in the real life try to replicate some of this dancing techniques and you gonna get serious injuries

      Not true. I’ve been in quite a few fights against individuals with weapons & knowing techniques similar to these are what allowed me to come out of those fights unharmed. So you are just speaking out of ignorance. His methods are some of the best!

    • @superexponent
      @superexponent Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@leehicks3172 well from what I've known that depends on the situation, usually the assailant won't want to kill you then he'll make more careful slashes which you can take advantage of.
      But if the assailant wants to injure you badly or kill you then they won't be putting in reach they'll either rush in and stab you or go up to you act all friendly and stab you.
      Most people who use the knife think they have the advantage and will use it to threaten you. Not to hurt or kill you.
      But if they want to hurt you or kill you, if you just run you'll end up with injuries because they may catch up to you.
      if you try to fight them you'll end up more likely to die because prolonged fights with a knife never end well.
      They won't think they'll have the advantage or try and be careful, all they want to do is hurt you. Plus, precisely blocking or parrying a strike is very difficult they might pull out some kind of tricks and you can end up dead.
      At most you can strike them when they make the first strike and then run because they'll be too busy writhing in pain

    • @superexponent
      @superexponent Před 2 měsíci

      @@leehicks3172 It's all entirely situational.
      I've seen someone fighting a skilled attacker they ended up getting stabbed. At this point just run no methods should work
      Getting a hit in with any kind of martial art when they are not prepared for it and then running is your best bet for living because you won't always be in the situation where you can run.
      And nobody will be prepared for a defence method at first but of course use the affective ones

      maybe because this is a training seminar and not an MMA match ? Please do go to one of Mauls and ask him if you may attack at full force and speed in any manner, he will smile at you like you are a perpetual child he must humor and allow you to.. when you try several times and get up off the floor, you will beg to be trained, he may allow it, after you heal up... :) I am speaking from Experience here, when I met my Silat Teacher this is what I did because I too did not understand the body mechanics nor the art..I did study, so heed my words young sir.

    You wanna trap the hand and knife as fast as possible, dont bother trying to strike. Both hands need to be controlling the threat...Fancy shit like this gets you killed it would not work in real life. This guy would get destroyed by any competent mma fighter.

    • @MagnificentDreamFox
      @MagnificentDreamFox Před 4 lety +7

      Is a knife fight supposes to be competition? No. The fact you compared this to an MMA fight, without testing this yourself, shows fallacy. Silat already stood true against many wars. Who are you to say such things?

    • @KOBKEDX
      @KOBKEDX Před 4 lety

      Silat has been battle tested in actual wars for hundreds of years, it has stood the test and is one of if not the best, Martial Blade art there is. After 25 years of Silat and Kali not to forget six other martial arts. Silat is the the way , the path and the best.
