    I really enjoyed how Master Mornie broke this one down, and opened us up to the combative strikes that are actually in play, opposed to the training on take-downs alone. Both are equally as important, but as Master Mornie says, in the real world you would want to know how to end the fight as quickly as possible. Thanks for sharing - Invaluable for anyone training in Bruneian Silat.

      here is the thing, silat always works in life scenarios but will never works in duel or ring. why? silat is dirty, close and personal. also silat was design in aggressive scenarios like you said, which means the attackers fully commit to attack you not using feints or fake movements and they are not aware that you can do self-defense like in the ring. if you like sufian silat there is another video talking about blind spot in poster's video list.

      Pray that you won't get yourself into a real knife attack let alone a surprise one. No amount of training and sparring whatsoever can make you bullet proof from knife attack. Silat practionner train against attacker and expected to get hit or stab whatsoever. But their first option which they always been told is to fucking run.
      You only fight when you have no choice. Family behind you, they be the victim of you run, etc.
      As for how does this affect in real knife attack. It don't. Whatever the aggressor do, silat practionner have more or less 3 option to counter. And 3 more option to do after that and so on and on.
      You can't choice what kind of counter you want to do. You just have to take it.

    Sir. It is my opinion that the very first move, blocking the knife with the right hand from the outside is very difficult and in a pressure test does not work more than 10% of the time. Further more , by the defender moving from right to left you are actually exposing more of your internal organs to the knife .At this point if the attacker has any Arnis,Kali,Silat background you could be disemboweled .A non trained attacker, if motivated would probably achieve a stab . These are just my observations, thank you.

    • @lipatpandan4318
      @lipatpandan4318 Před 5 lety +2

      Actually the blocking hand doesn't really matter. Its merely assisting the projection of the knife further away. Its the body movement out of the danger zone really matter.
      Notice how he twist his waist & change his body position? He is getting out from the knife stabbing projection aka the danger zone.
      Most of silat with blade system will teach u this. Some call it elak, ilat or elat.

      @@lipatpandan4318 I understand the merits of getting out of the "line" of the knife and getting to the outside. Unfortunately while sparring with forward moving determined attackers succeeding is next to impossible. My teacher (Arnis ) may be able to do this and even myself in the correct context ( center line straight stab with leading arm) .What I'm saying here, is that if a regular guy tries this in real time , there will be blood on the floor.

    • @lipatpandan4318

      @@mordi2537 there is a saying between pesilat. "if u come fast, we will be faster, if u come hard, we will come at u harder". So ask ur self, when ur sparring partner came fully determine, did u take him seriously? when he attack u aggressively, did u defence aggressively too? when he come 100%, did you take him out 100%? The only imposibble thing to defence is he come at you with a sneak attack. Other than that, whether u dont train hard enough, or u didn't put equivalent effort to defence urself aka holding back.
      2. getting outside or inside doesn't really matter, there are always technique for it. Understanding the blade effective range, and ur effective range is matter, able to read the attacking line is matter. Since u also learn blade system, u should understand this.
      3. Guru will teach u all the thing he know, its up to the student to be just a mere guy or train hard and be good.

He is blocking and hitting and not openly controlling the hand with the knife. Keep in mind, 2 points. When a guy with a knife is attacking you, he only needs to TOUCH you and do serious harm, you however can punch him hard and you aren't garanteed to take him out or stop him, this is why when you do block, you quickly NEED TO LOCK ON TO THAT HAND ! A good knife fighter is fluid, not stab, chamber back, stab, chamber back, stab. Nobody does this.

When adrenaline gives you tunnel vision, the shakes and your fine motor skills are narrowed down to gross motor movements, then you are forced to make decisions and gross movements very quickly under extreme pressure at a time when you can't think very clearly. The problem with this type of stuff is that there is no consequence involved e.g no respect for the knife and the damage it can and will do when someone is coming at you with the violent intent to murder you. There are many other factors to also consider. Also teaching people to break necks and thrusting knives into people is going to get you a one way ticket to prison for a very long time even if it was in self defence.
