  • England move to the brink of qualifying for the 1988 European Championships by thrashing Turkey 8-0 at Wembley in October 1987. Gary Lineker nets a hat-trick, while John Barnes scores twice and Bryan Robson, Peter Beardsley and Neil Webb all find the net. It is the second time in the 1980s that England beat Turkey 8-0, but just months earlier the away fixture ended goalless.

Adamlar tereyağından kıl çeker gibi ayağımızdan topu alıp üstüne 5 snde kalemizde bitip golleri sıralamışlar. No Jack-the-lad Wiltshire, no Sterling sulking over a lack of 200,000 p.w contract. To be honest ,it was all about the mentality and circumstances we had in the 80's, we used to have insufficient fundings for all types of sports in those days, not to mention the poor infrastructure. The post-military coup years were quite challenging for the nation and the made-to-order(!) government.

That phrase applies when a team draws or loses narrowly, and regrets not attacking enough, it doesn’t apply when they are totally humiliated.
