  • Demonstrating my approach for removing a stuck bicycle stem or seatpost when gentler methods have failed. This technique was necessary when I got an old '73 Schwinn Paramount that was probably left outdoors for years. I think it's a reasonable approach when the next step involves a propane torch or caustic chemicals, I've never had to escalate that far once I get to the air hammer.

Took off the handlebars, used a thin pipe to take out the stem from the bottom and it came out with no problem.

Can this method break a seatpost out of a FRame if an alloy seatost deep inside a steel frame? The post on this bike must have had NO grease and Completely and absolutely seized from years of ridden in elements and not getting moved.

I've used this technique on a couple of aluminum seatposts, but it was difficult to get access to the underside of them. In one case, the head of the post popped off (I didn't even know they were of two-piece construction,) but just getting it moving slightly was enough to break the bond. If you can break it loose by driving it in slightly, that might be enough to get the removal going.

What's another DIY way to fix this at home we've tried WD-40 and using a wood block so we can hammer it and it isn't moving.

I don't have that tool, and I don't know anyone who does, unfortunately! The stem in my 26 years old, classic road bike, really really stuck! In order to fit an adapter, I'll have to figure out.. something!😊

Most automotive mechanics will have the equipment, you could try asking one for help. You just have to make it clear to them that they need to be careful not to damage the frame or paint.

@@chrisa3012 Thank you so much for replying! I'll try to do that,if I don't manage to pull the damn thing,on my own!
The frame is in beautiful Titanium color, with some traces of rust showing, but, I'm not gonna repaint it! I love that color! ❤️

Do you have WD 40 in your locality, use it, spraying the stem.
