- 複数のメトロノームを動く台の上に乗せてメトロノームを動かすと，やがて全てのメトロノームが同期して同じタイミングで音を刻むことが知られています．
池口研究室では，メトロノームを乗せる台を左右から吊るすことで台が動くような実験装置を作成し，同期実験を行いました．本動画では100個のメトロノームが同じタイミングで音を刻みます．

このコメント(もちろん実験も)は含蓄に富むと思う。しいて言えば、社会の基盤はこの実験で言うところの台を吊る枠で安定している部分で、動いているのは政治か？（政治が動いて個々の差異を吸収するから向く方向が似通ってくる＝でそのうちガラパゴス化するということか？）
とか、逆に企業等で社員の足並みを揃えたいなら、基本の制度や目標のような何か動かさないものの上に、頻繁に動かして差異を吸収するような仕組みを作ってやればいいのか、とか・・・・・・なんだ、いわゆる臨機応変と言われているもののことかｗ
コンサートの後の拍手が同調してしまうのもこの原理か？（あと軍隊で橋が落っこちたやつもそうだよね）

it sounds like the end is nigh with the rise of metronomes marching from the horizon. when you hear the sync, you'll be in the stink
I can see at 1:12 that they are not synchronized. At 3:18, I'm not sure, but it seems that these 100 metronomes got synchronized in about 3 minutes. Let's call that the synchronization time. Question: does that time depends on the metronome setting ? E.g would it take more time for the metronomes to synchronize if they were set at 40 tick per minutes ? Does that synchronization time accept a sound mathematical definition ? Just curious.
I would guess that the tempo of the metronomes would interact with the resonant frequency of the free-moving platform they are all sat on, and so they would behave differently if the swinging platform were swinging on shorter or longer strings at the corners. I lack the space, time, or 100 metronomes to experiment with this idea for myself unfortunately.

Digg says that this is unnerving. I guess because Westerners do not like conformance. On the other hand, the majority of Japanese comments below are positive. This could be due to the prevalence of individualism vs collectivism and to an extent I would agree but, according to me it is because Westerners lack individuality and must strive for difference lest they mind-meld, whereas Japanese are loaded with quirkiness and admire those that strive towards harmony. ディッグというソーシャルニュースサイトによれば、このビデオは不気味です。同調するものが好きではないからでしょうかな。下記日本人のコメントは主に肯定的です。個人主義 対 集団主義で解釈されそうですが、それもありでしょうが、欧米人は個性が不足しているから努力して反発しなければ同化してしまいそうですが、日本人は逆に個性に富むので逆に協和に励むことが偉いように見えるというのは持論です。

Agreed about the individualism vs. collectivism comment. But as people like Nietzsche argued, there are benefits to individualism too. I personally think Americans are too hyper-individualistic and lean toward a more collectivistic society myself, but it does also matter what everyone is actually agreeing upon (which is the 'unnerving' part). In Nietzsche's critique of 'herd mentality,' we homogenize society and belie the glorious exceptional outliers, which can push us to be better, as well as offer novel ideas.

The metronomes transfer the energy to the table underneath which then disperses to the other metronomes forcing them into sync after a few min. Don't believe me? Try to repeat the experiment on a concrete floor. It should fail.
