Today we take the word "reason" to mean logical, unemotional. In Emerson's time, there was Reason (with a capital R) which meant intuitions, vision; and Understanding, which was the empirical data gathered by the senses. I feel this distinction is important to show that "reason" (Understanding) was not thrown away, it's just they found "The authority of Reason cannot be separated from its vision" , which allowed them to see things as they ARE, not as they APPEAR. I am no Emerson expert by a long stretch, but sometimes the fine points help explain things more completely.
Currently reading "Nature" published in 1836 when America still had the "new car" smell. Wow, it is quite the read and definitely not an easy read at that. But I am almost through it. Fascinating stuff.
no they still believed in a “god” but not the same kind of god most people believe in. god is with in us there for we must focus on ourselves and listen to ourselves as to listen to god. we are not nihilists. (great analysis though) 💚
He covers both Transcendentalism and Realism, but is more influenced by the first. He writes of subjective individualism, communing with nature, and uses many of the same poetic devices as Emerson, Thoreau and Fuller did.

Try to pronounce Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi correctly, apart from that I loved your video.
