1947 Harley Flathead Build - Installing a VL Springer on a Panhead Frame

- The flathead build continues in a new direction. This time I make some custom bearing cups to mount the VL springer to a wishbone frame. I didn't want to cut the original stem out of the forks so this is what I came up with.
Rad !!! I’ve got some cups that use regular sealed (wheel) bearings with the correct bore. I run an uncut VL Springer on my 49 Panhead with BT Rockers and a star hub. Just had to machine down the spacers to fit as the VL springer is 1/2” narrower than your typical knuckle springer.

My uncle had a old milling machine and lathe from like the 40s-50s that thing weighed a million pounds. But it never failed! No digital readout all done by hand. I been dying for a nice lathe and milling machine. This is some fine work. When you have the right tools you can make anything. Having your own machine shop is awesome. Looks like some quality work on old school shit! 👍🏻 your talented my friend not many people know this stuff anymore!

Pretty trick! Are you going to be running a star hub and drum with the VL front end?
Yes, star hub with knuckle brake setup.
@@ChucksCycles I think this might be a 1 year only issue I’ve encountered, but will you have to offset the rim to address the springer being narrower than a BT?
@@ZiggyNobrakes yes, In fact I’m having to modify the spokes on the left side in order to get the rim centered.
