    Thanks a lot for very clear and well structured explanation of DBT and mindfulness. I understand the key skill is to train the mind to be fully in present moment. It is not an easy task. Some say you need a conscious effort to do this, the other say it is more about intention and remembrance - so it is more an art, then a blunt effort.

    How does mindfulness fit with processing past trauma? Is remember ing part of the present moment?

  • @andreastrand8319
    @andreastrand8319 Před rokem

    Thanks for the great DBT videos. I only have one question on the How skills. When it talks about paying attention to experiences in the present as non-judgemental it's essentially saying you cannot assign any emotion to the experience whatsoever. How does that work? Aren't I allowed to enjoy the moment I'm in and feel how pleasant, wonderful, fun etc it is? Isn't that the whole point of DBT work is to to feel happier with my life? Am I supposed to be an emotionless robot? Unfortunately, this is how I interpret what your videos are saying about being non-judgemental.

    • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  Před rokem +1

      Emotions are different than judgments. Emotions are feelings, judgments are thoughts. Mindfulness isn't about not experiencing any feelings or emotions. It's always okay to feel however we feel. But we don't judge how we feel. Thoughts such as happiness is good, not feeling happy is bad, I hate feeling sad are all judgments. Here's a description of non-judging from the person most responsible for the way we think of mindfulness in psychology czcams.com/video/2n7FOBFMvXg/video.html

  • @virginiaandrade8009
    @virginiaandrade8009 Před 3 lety +3

    I feel like it's more teaching you to mute your emotions as they are forming. I don't disagree that it might be helpful to others but I feel like vaguely describing what I'm experiencing in the present doesn't really do much in helping me in the moment of a stressful interaction. It's just too hard to focus on doing that while trying to address and carry on the interaction. I find it more accessible to dampen or numb out a degree to autopilot to provide work appropriate or socially acceptable reaction out of stressful situations so I don'tt get too immediately flustered. Maybe I'm still doing it wrong

      Hi Virginia, Ive had the same thoughts too. But now use a spray of essential oils, smells that “make me smile” so when the anxiety and stress are building i use the spray on the back of my hand. The burst of smell can help focus my mind just long enough to take a breath take control of the moment. Not 100% but has definitely helped. May be worth a try. I hope you find the help you need x

    Liked the video though is happiness the goal or a byproduct of being able to accept the present moment unconditionally?

    The volume is really low, lower than some other videos, so I am unable to show it in class. The clients can't hear it with the volume all the way up. Is there a way for you to fix the volume?

    • @SelfHelpToons
      @SelfHelpToons  Před rokem

      There's no way to edit videos once they've been uploaded, so I've re-uploaded it with increased volume at czcams.com/video/IzEVj0FG0rU/video.html
