You know what’s so funny? I’ve been watching your videos for several months. Then one day I login to FB and you’re suggested as a friend to me. I’m like ok that’s odd. Turns out, we went to high school together. I knew you looked familiar. Congratulations on your successful channel! - Danielle Eason
Dang what a small world! 😂😂
Your kid asking about hormones is just about the cutest thing ever!!! "Whoa!" So stinking cute!!! Thanks for your videos BTW. I'm almost 37 weeks and I've really loved your channel through out my pregnancy and I've learned a lot! ❤️💗🌻
I have a Bachelor's in Science and I have learned more about the hormones of labor from this video than from any anatomy class I've taken. Thank you for taking such complex feedback systems and breaking them down into understandable relationships!
Aw, you’re so kind! It is crazy and super fascinating stuff!
I am due to have my baby this week so I find this video very interesting and calming! I’ve been anxious to have the baby out but also nervous to bring him home and have him meet big brother.
I totally get that! I have a video about having baby #2+ you might find helpful!
My best friend's midwife got upset with myself and her partner for joking with her and making her laugh during labour. She almost sent my friend home from the hospital because in her good mood, she was so good at masking her contractions that the midwife thought we were literally distracting her too much and her body was essentially stopping her labour because she wasn't focused enough. My friend was pissed. She did NOT want us to stop joking around with her, and it was only when the midwife checked her cervix and realized she was 5cm dilated, that she accepted that my friend was going nowhere.
I'm 35 weeks, and I suffer from chronic pain, so although I'm a FTM, I know that my coping mechanism for pain (and many other things) is making jokes and laughing, so I told my spouse that I will definitely want to joke around and laugh. Now I will do so with the added knowledge that laughter will help me release oxytocin and will actually help me labour, so if anyone tells my spouse to stop, Ima fire back with knowledge!
There ya go! Laughter can be the best medicine!
I clicked on this so fast! I'm 40 weeks today with my second, and love learning all the sciencey stuff!
Our bodies truly are amazing!
These videos are so helpful. Me and my partner are planning for the future and these videos help put my mind at ease!
Knowledge is the best way for many (myself included) to combat anxiety!
The biology aspect to this totally puts my mind at ease. Thanks for getting into the science side!! Its good for people like me who like lists and facts 🙏🙏🙏
I think it’s nice because it also shows that labor isn’t as random or mysterious as it seems!
My baby turns 1 in 5 days, and this video is making me so nostalgic. I loved my labor! Happy laboring, beautiful birthing people!
Aw, it really is a magical time. Happy almost giving birth day!
Also wanted to say those endorphins are awesome especially after having an unmedicated birth. I swear it somehow makes you feel awesome and speeds up recovery lol.
They definitely do!
My mom says that she felt “like a f*ing queen!” after giving birth
I had an unmediated birth last time and I will never go back. I felt like a million bucks
I’m due March 13th and super nervous but you definitely have calmed my nerves 💗 wish me luck!
I’m a week before lol March 6th. We got this 😉
March 12th here!! 😂
I am about the same dd too 😰 I am scared as hell
I’m due March 4th ❤️ Hope you have a beautiful and safe delivery
Good luck! You’ve got this, mama! 💪💗
I appreciate you! Thanks for always keeping it real; I’ve been bingeing on your videos and definitely feel so much more confident going into my first delivery 👌💪
This is my kind of video! I love to learn! And I’m fascinated by our bodies and how NATURAL birth truly is. I’m 23 weeks and planning an unmedicated birth, I’m so excited! Thank you for your videos!
Your videos are so helpful and informative. Thank you.
Thank you for being such a wonderful and positive resource for birthing people!
Very informative and useful video, keep up with the good job nurse Zabe!
I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now, and even though this isn't my first time being pregnant, your videos have already taught me SO much! Could you do a video on twin pregnancy/labor/delivery? Found out we're having twins and I feel so unprepared! Thanks for all you do ❤
I binge watched so many Nurse Zabe videos before I gave birth to my first baby girl in June 2020 (thank you for so much help and awareness) and I can't stop watching as I always seem to learn more about our amazing bodies ❤️
💗💗💗
🙏 Thank you for educating us. I am on my 4th and last baby, but you have taught me SO much I didn’t know. Every pregnancy and labor is truly different.
So unique and special! 💗
I am due June 9th with my 6th baby but I still enjoyed this video so much, love the tips and tricks. I feel like I’m going to be rewatching this when I’m in early labor just to help remind myself. Thanks Nurse Zabe!
You’re so welcome!
Every video you make is AWESOME! Thank you!
36 weeks here, really starting to get nervous even though this is my second kid. I’m so scared of not being able to get epidural. My first was born 3 hrs after i got to the hospital but by the time they were ready to give me epidural it was too late, they told me i had to start pushing. So i had her natural and drug free but I didn’t enjoy it at all. I had to be on oxygen the whole time bc I couldn’t catch my breath. I thought i was gonna pass out! I took classes, read books, but when it came down to it I couldn’t do it. Wow sorry i just went on a rant lol, anywho thanks for your videos 😊
First, you DID do it!! But I understand not enjoying the experience and not wanting to do it again. Let them know what happened last time and hopefully they will be able to get you an epidural faster. I’m betting they didn’t think you’d go that fast either!
This video was so informative! I feel like I learned so many new things. Thank you so much for putting out content like this!
I’m so glad you found it helpful! It really is so interesting!
I'm 32w as a FTM.. this video brought me so much peace!! Thank you so much 💖 I will rewatch before my princess arrives
💗💗💗
I Had my second child on the 30th and you helped me with my postpartum experience !! It went so much more smoothly the second time around ❤️🙌🏻
That’s awesome! And congrats!
I love watching your videos 🧡 im so excited to bring our last baby into the world and never having to deal with the stress of pregnancy again 🧡
I hope it goes well for you! 💗💗
I really love watching these videos. I just had my baby and they were so helpful ! 😊
Congrats!
With my first baby i didnt know all this information but now it makes sense when i think back . I couldn't stop talking and wanting to have funny conversation and i was with my nurse and mom and my granny we lough through the whole night . Each time they was a quite moment i would ask them to keep me entertained . They loved it . I had such a wonderful birth . No medication. Just natural from start to end .
That sounds beautiful and so fun! 💗
This video is awesome 😍👌🏼Definitely going to watch this video again when it's my time!! love your energy! Really excited for your next birthing story 😊😊
Aw, thank you! And I am too. Excited to know even more going into this birth.
Love this information so much!
It really is amazing what our body does to prepare for baby!
34 weeks, due March 24th and I am a nervous wreck as a FTM but your videos make me feel a little more at ease being more educated but I still can’t help but be so nervous still since I’ve never gave birth before.
It’s so normal to be nervous! Arming yourself with information and education is one way to combat those feelings! 💗
I have a scheduled induction in a week and I’m so scared so thanks for your informative videos to help ease my mind
You’ve got this! 💪💗
Good luck
Sitting backwards on the toilet during labor was by far the most comfortable I found. It was cooler in the bathroom too. Thanks for reminding me of that tip!
This is one of my go-to positions!
I love your channel i am currently trained to be a pregnancy and labour nurse myself and your passion is contageous💓
That’s awesome!! Wishing you luck with your studies.
@@Nurse_zabe OMG thank you!💓
Love your videos this video made me so excited to give birth again. It's such a amazing experience
Love your videos! Can you do a video about what to expect when we arrive to the hospital? Im pregnant with my first and have no idea what will happen when we get there. Thank so much!
I don’t know if you’ve made this video yet, but just in case you haven’t can you do one regarding postpartum hair loss & maybe some tips about what we can do to help deal with it? Please and thank you 💕 I love your videos currently 8m p.p. & I’ve been watching your videos way before I was even pregnant 😘
Hi Nurse Zabe! Could you make a video on when or even whether to push in labor? I’ve watched some videos that recommend waiting a while to push even after getting the urge and some that say pushing isn’t necessary or advisable at all because your body will naturally expel the baby. I’d love to know what science supports. 😊 Thank you so much for these videos! Currently 34 weeks pregnant and they’ve been so helpful my entire pregnancy 🥰
It honestly is up to you and the specific situation! I do have a video that covers the fetal ejection reflex. With an epidural most people do need to push some, but laboring down and allowing your body to bring the baby down can be done with or without and epidural!
So much great information! Have you ever done any education on breastfeeding failure and what causes it? And is that just a common scenario to expect over multiple births? With my first I spent 6 weeks working hard at it with a consultant and pumping and I never produced anything even colostrum nothing ever happened, she said it was related to a traumatic birth and post partum due to the procedure for my internal tears. I had never heard of it until I experienced it.
During the end of my labor there was a change of staff. So right when I was starting to feel like it would happen soon, I lost my support and didn't know when next person would come. I was so stressed. Even if they were just gone for half an hour.
That can be so difficult! 😩
Tomorrow is my induction and I'm freaking terrified lol! Excited and freaked out lol. Thank you for all your videos ♡
You’ve got this! Let us know how it goes!
@@Nurse_zabe 12 hour labor where the baby didnt handle pitocin at all. I got 2 doses of cytotec and water broke on its own. They had me sign papers and had a c section cart outside my room thinking they would need to do an emergent c section due to declarations in her heart rate. We ended up with a vaginal birth with the cord around her neck and it snapped when the OB went to release. It was an adventure.
waiting to see if I and my husband are expecting I am two days late! and already on week four, I didn't realize it!
I love your inclusive language!!!!!
Not the guardians of labor 🥺😭 I'm not a mom yet but I've learned so much watching your videos! Thank you!
You’re so welcome! 💗
@@Nurse_zabe 💜💜💜
Becca: I am so grateful for your videos. I'm pregnant with our 5th baby and find these so educational. I had epidurals for my first 2, then a c-section with placenta previa for my 3rd, and a natural VBac with baby #4. They gave me pitocin which made him come fast in 2hrs, and he was Sunny side up. I'm hoping to have no interventions and try natural again but prevent a sunny side up labor. Any advice?
Being upright and forward leaning during labor can help baby turn from sunny-side up to OA. Side-lying release and forward leaning inversion during pregnancy and labor can also help baby get into a better position!
@@Nurse_zabe thank you. What's side laying release?
Can you do a video on Braxton Hicks contractions please
Thanks for another great video, Elizabeth!! My countdown is on to delivery for with my first and your videos have provided a wealth of info!
You’re so welcome! Good luck with your delivery!
Could you give your opinion on the dockAtot or the snuggle me organic?(Or any mom here give her input on these 2) Thanks!
They are not safe for unsupervised sleep, but can be used to place baby (with supervision). Not really worth the price tag for such limited use, if you ask me.
You're gorgeous! Both in and out! 💗
Aw, thank you. ☺️
I'm not sure if I missed this, but I don't recall you mentioning that Pitocin totally disrupts the natural hormonal Oxytocin process. So all the things you describe until that drip is turned off don't apply. AS I was typing this you mentioned it a bit...but made it seem like you can have both Oxy and Pit flowing, from what I have previously understood once you have Pit going it totally negates the Oxy and the receptors and all the cascading natural hormonal process stop. This also disrupts the peak of Oxy at birth which is 30x higher in an unmedicated birth than in a medicated one interfering with bonding. Could you clarify?
I’m 36 weeks today & received news from my Dr about being induced at 38 weeks. My husband & I are 1st time parents so we’re scared out of our minds. I’m just so nervous at this point & scared. Any advice.
It is so normal to be nervous at this point. It’s something totally new. Figuring out coping skills for your labor tool box and practicing fear releases and mediation can help you get your mind ready for birth. Your emotions play a big role too, as seen by the amazing effects of your hormones!
Nurse Zabe thank you so much!! I’m definitely following your advice.
I would definitely make sure that the induction is actually medically necessary first. As long as it isn't you shouldn't need to go that route. Also make a birthing playlist or try doing something that you enjoy. That will distract you from being nervous/scared and will help your body relax which will ultimately make your labor easier and not take so long.
Micheala Young O my gosh thank you so much!!! I will be making that playlist soon & I will asking my Dr more about the induction. Everything has been going well so far but I think she has too many patients.
@@krisskrossing3182 Yes. Totally make the playlist. I'm only 10 weeks and already have one made. That is definitely not a reason to induce. Induction can put so much stress on you and baby on top of the normal stress from labor. After my induction with my son at 40+6 I definitely wish I would have stood up more for myself, but unfortunately my doctor made me feel like that was my only option and the only real help that I had was going back home soon (2,000 miles away). I was induced on June 4th, had him on the 7th, and his great grandmother went back home on the 11th so I only got four days of help. I think that if she lived closer or could have stayed longer I would have told my doctor that I wanted to stick to my original birth plan.
Do you still have contractions after you give birth or do they immediately stop?
Do you have any video ideas for scheduled c sections?
I have a video on cesarean births already, but as far as optimizing hormones skin-to-skin with baby in the OR and recovery room are a great way to get oxytocin flowing!!
I am about to pass out... I am scared of pushing that baby out in a few weeks 😭😭 oh Lord help me
You can do it! I believe in you. (I'm 37 weeks myself and a FTM so I will also be pushing out a baby in the next few weeks.) I know it won't be easy, but it will be so worth it to get to meet your little one. Remember, every contraction is one contraction closer to meeting your baby. Trust in yourself and your labor team. They are there to help you through this.
It is definitely something new to think about! But your body was made to do this!! 💗💗
@@esthermeyerhoff4113 true ! You are right about the contractions being a step closer to my baby 🙌🏾 I’ll take it as that ! ❤️ I wish you a safe delivery and a happy and healthy baby
After how long of pushing would the doctors know that pushing isn’t working and there is a need for a c section? I feel like if I pushed and pushed and pushed and nothing happened I would just think ok this isn’t going to work.
Typically after 3-4 hours or so without the baby moving we will have a discussion for an abdominal birth. But sometimes pushing does take a while and that can be normal. Changing positions and pushing strategies can be really useful in helping you figure out the best way to move your baby!
I love your videos! I am trying to get pregnant! I’m wondering if you have or are going to make a video on tips on getting pregnant?:)
I have one that’s unlisted. Dm me on Instagram and I can send you think link!
Hi Elizabeth!
Unrelated to this video but can you please do a video with advices to a high risk pregnancy/labour?
I have Epilepsy and I want to deliver naturally, I know I can't deliver at home because it can be really dangerous but I would like to hear more about my options in the most natural route I can take.
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
Working with you neurologist and a high risk OB will be important for managing seizures during your birth. (Which I’m sure you’re already doing!) It can be sometimes harder to avoid triggers in labor.
@@Nurse_zabe I am doing that but I have so many questions and my appointments are still quite far away! Like for example will I be able to deliver naturally? And can I carry my baby in a sling? It still a bit far but I'm mostly healthy, I didn't have any seizures more than a year now so I'm really hoping for the best ☺️
lots of love from Israel!!
Thank you for this, Nurse Zabe!! 🥰 how do hormones change for women who have scheduled c-sections and therefore don’t labor?
For example, is there any evidence that mothers who have c-sections have a harder time bonding with their babies due to not having that surge of oxytocin? This is something I’m personally a bit nervous about!! Thank you!!
The hormones can definitely be different, but promoting a calm environment and skin-to-skin will help get that oxytocin and prolactin flowing and help with bonding! 💗💗
@@Nurse_zabe thank you!
@@literarymary4933 there's a documentary, the business of being born, it touches on the subject, you should watch it
Do you have any tips for those of us who have Precipitous Labors?
Precipitous labor is so intense. All the stages sped up can definitely be overwhelming. I actually am doing a video coming up on precipitous labor, but having someone to help ground you is so important! 💗
I spAT at that Elle woods clip lmfao good one
All I think of when I think of endorphins. 😂😂
One question: is it safe to get covid vaccine if I want to get pregnant? I heard so many scary things...
Currently at 39 and can't wait to start labor 🤣🤣🤣
Do you think for an unmedicated birth it’s necessary to take classes? I didn’t plan on taking any
Research shows that a childbirth education class helps people feel more prepared and ready for birth. I definitely think it is helpful to know normal and have strategies to help you cope that a good childbirth edu class can provide!
Could you make a video about giving birth in a birthing center?
Unfortunately that’s not really something I have much experience with.
Are these horomones released the same if you have an epidural?
Some are still released, but they can be dampened with an epidural in place.
what about depression during and after preganancy and hormones?
The drop in estrogen and progesterone definitely play a large role in postpartum mood disorders. Check out my video on postpartum depression for more info.
How do you get through pain in your thighs?
I've been thinking about having another but the pain I felt in my hips and upper thighs was worse than the contractions and I couldn't walk around or get into positions to help with labour.
Thigh pain is the worst! Hydrotherapy or a TENS unit might be helpful. A heating pad can be too. You could also use the peanut ball in bed for resting positions that still are opening for your pelvis!
@@Nurse_zabe
Thank you! I want to try hydrotherapy. I'm glad you suggested it. I'll write down your suggestions!
I am due with baby #2 in September and don't want to go overdue again. My goal is to literally try every single natural induction method BESIDES castor oil starting at 39 weeks.
🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thank you for using gender neutral terms! I’m non-binary and your videos make me feel much more comfortable with my pregnancy, a lot of channels like saying mommy and mama every 5 seconds and the way you film your videos are so great
I think you’re fabulous. I love these kind of videos.
Ps: bonus love for the legally blonde clip. 💜
Pps: I swear that my husband making me laugh during my third labour was what helped me go from a 7 to a 10 in 20 minutes. Before then I’d gotten discouraged and asked for the epidural and while waiting for the anaesthetist to arrive, he made me laugh and it was go time.
I’ve now done all my labours drug free although it was close on my first and last one. :)
I love that! Laughter can be the best medicine!
Hope you’re doing well!
I am, thanks! 24 weeks today!
All your ideas for relaxing sound great but I’ve never been “allowed” to do ANY of this. They tell you to change into a hospital gown and lay flat on the bed with the monitor on. Then they leave. And if you move and the monitor isn’t positioned right then they come in and give you dirty looks and tell you to lay still on your back. Then they leave again. You’re in a room with florescent lights alone. I guess I just don’t have good enough medical insurance to have anything better here. What you’re describing sounds so much better. I’m dreading going to the hospital to be honest.
Same here!
This might be an odd question lol but is it normal for women to have heart palpitations while pregnant or before/during a period?
This is definitely something I would discuss with your OB!
I have been bringing this up to them!!! My pulse is like 120 resting and my heart beats constantly out of my chest and they say oh that’s normal for increased blood flow during pregnancy. Is this similar to what you are experiencing?
@@emilybunny_beauty1291 my heart rate doesn't seem to increase at all, but it will feel like a fluttering sensation every so often. I have also had this before and during periods so I wondered if there was any hormonal reason.
Could be low iron.
Is that a dress? If so i think i might have the same one! (or very similar!)
Yes! It’s from my first pregnancy, so it’s 5 years old or so. From old navy, I think!
@@Nurse_zabe that's so cool!! Thanks for replying!!
This video makes me want to have a 3rd baby 🥺 my second is only 5 weeks old though lolllll I’ll have to think about that for awhile 😂
Aw, I totally get that. Birth is such a unique, magical experience! 💗
I know this is a bad question. How much stress is an okay amount lol
Reducing stress is important for you and for baby, but of course there are many stresses in our lives. Finding time for meditation, rest, and reading help me decompress! 💗
The opening 😂😂
She’s so sweet. 😍 It is “woah” though when you really think about it!
I'd like to see a video from you about orgasmic birth. It's a really interesting concept that I'm not interested for myself but I want to learn more about it. Birth is a sexual experience after all, it kinda makes sense.
It totally does make sense, although I’ve never witnessed it occur.
This makes so much sense why I was able to be so calm when giving birth in my car. Amazing!
You’re hormones were taking over! Rock on, mama!
I’m mostly antinatalist but as a med student I find these helpful and insightful :)
Were supposed to eat, and birth upright, yet they dont let us eat and try to make us birth on our backs. So glad I have midwives instead of some ignorant hospital doctors. Thank you for educating us nurse zabe!
Same! Also didn't have an IV for either birth so far 🙌 Midwives are great when you are low risk 💕
Unfortunately it can take 20-30 years for practice to catch up with evidenced based research. I am very thankful to work in a facility that works hard to stay up-to-date with our evidence-based care!
😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

I never realized that being born is painful for the baby
We don’t 100% know what they feel. It might just be a firm squeezing, but they do receive endorphins too!
