way back when Ivan's storyline was still going, i came up with the idea to do a holiday-time audio themed vaguely around "baby it's cold outside", given that i find that song fittingly creepy and Ivan used the nickname "baby" lol. i didn't get around to it while his plotline was still going, but hey, i've always been down to make flashbacks every now and then. let's throw it all the way back to a much simpler time on the channel with a little trip down memory lane. this one's for all my classic-yandere lovers out there.

This really was a throwback; I still remember everyone theorizing over the “two people in a house” that Caelum found trapped by Vega in his reverse comfort and the mic drop reveal when Caelum said “Ivan” in The Cost. I checked my records and the channel had only just hit 31,000 subscribers the day The Cost released just over a year and a half ago. Now we’re at 124,000 and climbing. That’s absolutely amazing to think about. This channel has grown in so many amazing ways and I can’t wait to see where your stories take us a year from now.

Okay now that I've finished freaking about about this ( -i'm lying I'm definitely not finished- ) I have many thoughts because Ivan's manipulation is so sneaky and so genius and I could write entire essays on his character.
The thought that Baby had to lay there possibly all night **freezing** and not even be able to curl up on themself to try to stay warm is HEARTBREAKING.
I saw someone else suggest that Ivan probably let the house get cold on purpose and I WOULD NOT EVEN BE SURPRISED he would absolutely try to use it as a tactic to get close to Baby and get them to rely on him even more. Putting them in situations where they need his help and conditioning them to associate needing him with their very survival IT'S SO GENIUS I HATE HIM/pos
But then Baby somehow still having the resolve to not call out for help even though they are FREEZING, because they have to hold on to some shred of dignity and independence and not let him win by giving him the satisfaction of asking for his help because you KNOW he would be so self-satisfied and patronizing about it. He'd probably tell them that they're "finally letting someone else help them" and that he's so proud of them for asking for help when they need it and he would see it as such a victory towards breaking down their resolve and AHHHHHHHHHH
I will yell for days about the genius complexities and subtleties of Ivan's manipulation and how well written he is

I found the channel after Ivan's story was finished so I never got to experience a fresh Ivan audio, and honestly I feel like if I got here while his story was still going on I think he definitely would have succeeded in gaslight gatekeep girlbossing me aha
His voice is just so calm and gentle, and the subtle lines of manipulation still sound so caring even though us as listeners now know just how bad the situation was. This video definitely was a surprise but a very welcome one!!

Yeah. It's like 'ok honey I love you so much I'm gonna break your legs so you can't leave this basement'. I don't think that is what yandere is supposed to be. It's more chilling in some ways when the character genuinely thinks they are being sweet and loving even if they are doing things with a similar vibe if way more subtle.

What makes this audio most terrifying for me is how Ivan’s words are so well put together, comforting, really touching deep, and feeding the need for some form of acceptance. I resonated so much on the little things being taken for granted. I personally feel there is something so comforting in the mundane, in the tiniest of details during those tasks, especially when done with someone you care deeply for. Automatically those once mundane activities take on a whole new life, new meaning, and being able to create new memories every time. Opening up and sharing a part of yourself kept locked away with lock and key for so long, truly is scary. Vulnerability is scary but a beautiful thing all at once.
Thank you Erik for taking the time to share this throwback with us. It was beautifully written, voice-acted, and somehow needed.

I'd almost forgotten how manipulative he is and how much fun I had unraveling his lies in his older videos. Talking about "freeing" Baby from the outside world and how all it wants to do is subjugate them while he literally has them tied to a bed is such a good image.
It's interesting to wonder where in the timeline this is when it comes to Sadism's Hold. Ivan's playlists aren't something I relisten to as often as the other playlists but I do remember there was a time when Baby was left in their room without to ropes and this audio seems to be sometime before that. Especially with the way he talks of wanting to share a room and a life.
Thank you for the throwback, the fun analysis we get to do, and the wondering where this fits into everything else. It's truly a wonderful little gem covered in a genuinely soothing voice.

Ivan's series has been one of my favorites since I found the channel and I am so happy we got to have this little dive back into it. He is so *soft* and yet there is so much double meaning to everything he says and he is just so interesting to analyze.
This was such a pleasant surprise but I don't know how you expect me to just go about my day now.
Also just saying I would LOVE to see more throwbacks like this if you ever decide to do them. Supposedly there are 8 months worth of unexplored Ivan/Baby content and I would never say no to hearing more from them 👀

I loved Ivan’s series and when it ended I was so sad, however of course with Redacted’s audios I had much more to listen to but Ivan’s was one of the first characters on the channel so it’s really nice to see that character again in the works :)
